Background:Chagas disease is endemic in Latin America and still represents an important public health problem in the *** cardiomyopathy is the most significant chronic form due to its association with morbidity and *** last decade has seen increasing evidence that inflammatory cytokines and chemokines are responsible for the generation of inflammatory infiltrate and tissue damage,with chronic chagasic cardiomyopathy patients presenting a pro-inflammatory immune *** studies have evaluated the role of chemokines in experimental *** infection,few have addressed their systemic profile,especially for human infection and in aging *** present work aimed to use the data from a large population based study of older adults,conducted in an endemic area for Chagas disease,to examine the association between serum levels of cytokines and chemokines,*** infection and electrocardiogram(ECG)***:The present work evaluated serum levels of CCL2,CXCL9,CXCL10,CCL5,CXCL8,IL-1β,IL-6,TNF,IL-12 and IL-10 by Flow Cytometric Bead Array assay(CBA)and the results expressed in pg/*** baseline survey started in January 1st 1997,with 1284 participants of an aged population-based *** signed an informed consent at baseline and at each subsequent visit and authorized death certificate and medical records ***:Our results demonstrated that Chagas disease patients had higher serum levels of CXCL9,CXCL10 and IL-1βand lower serum levels of CCL5 than non-infected ***,our data demonstrated that CXCL9 and CXCL10 increased in an age-dependent profile in Chagas disease ***:Together,this study provided evidences that serum biomarkers increase along the age continuum and may have potential implications for establishing clinical management protocols and therapeutic intervention in Chagas disease patients.

Several studies with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been developed in many species because of its ability to differentiate into other mesoderm lineages, capacity of self-regeneration, low immunogenicity, paracrine, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and antiapoptotic effects which make them a promissory source to be used in therapeutic strategies. The aim of this study is to report the technique of harvest of bone marrow (BM) in the coxal tuberosity (CT) of buffaloes and its processing and cultivation. For this, after anesthetic block from the region corresponding to the CT, bone marrow harvesting was performed with a myelogram’s needle. The samples collected showed plastic adherence with 96 hours and took approximately 32 days to reach 80% confluence. And then differentiation into adipogenic and osteogenic lineages was performed. Samples showed morphological changes during differentiation protocol, but not all presented production of extracellular deposits of calcium or intracellular fat droplets. The anatomical site tested showed to be an alternative site of harvest of BM once provided with the appropriate isolation and culture of the mononuclear fraction. Moreover, the procedure was performed without difficulty and with great security. Based on this, it can be concluded that CT is an excellent anatomical site for isolation and culture of MSCs and the proposed technique is viable and feasible to be held in buffaloes.

AIM To identify common copy number alterations on gastric cancer cell *** Four gastric cancer cell lines(ACP02, ACP03, AGP01 and PG100) underwent chromosomal comparative genome hybridization and array comparative genome hybridization. We also confirmed the results by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis using the bacterial artificial chromosome clone and quantitative real time PCR *** The amplification of 9p13.3 was detected in all cell lines by both methodologies. An increase in the copy number of 9p13.3 was also confirmed by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis. Moreover, the interleukin 11 receptor alpha(IL11RA) and maternal embryonic leucine zipper kinase(MELK) genes, which are present in the 9p13.3 amplicon, revealed gains of the MELK gene in all the cell lines studied. Additionally, a gain in the copy number of IL11 RA and MELK was observed in 19.1%(13/68) and 55.9%(38/68) of primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples, respectively. CONCLUSION The characterization of a small gain region at 9p13.3 in gastric cancer cell lines and primary gastric adenocarcinoma samples has revealed MELK as a candidate target gene that is possibly related to the development of gastric cancer.

The Knowledge and Participation of the Father in Breast Feeding, Salvador, Brazil

The most fundamental influence in the breastfeeding process is the father’s support. The mother feels safer in breastfeeding when she has her partner’s support and a more active and effective participation. This study aimed at evaluating the father’s knowledge about breastfeeding in a quantitative approach through a transversal cohort study, interviewing 78 fathers in a public maternity in Salvador. The average age of the interviewees was 29.9 years and 53.8% had an incomplete fundamental schooling. Regarding knowledge of the subject, 10.3% believed that breastfeeding can be substituted. All fathers interviewed answered that they support breastfeeding for their children and believe in its benefits;39.7% reported that their opinion could interfere their partner’s decision to prolong the process. Moreover, 69.2% of the males attended their partner’s antenatal meetings, and of these, over a third had no intervention on the subject. Of all the participants, 80.8% confirmed that they had participated in the breastfeeding process and emphasized their gratification during this phase. About the paternal opinion, 39.7% believed that there is a degree of influence over the partner’s decision to breastfeed, and for that reason 50% told the mother their opinion. The study widened the knowledge about the role of the father in breastfeeding, ratifying the importance of their support towards the mother in this process, ultimately contributing to improving the practice and benefiting the mother-child relationship. Therefore, we conclude that those interviewed have some knowledge about breastfeeding, recognize its importance during the process and would like to know more.

Background: The Hepadnaviridae family is composed of small hepatotropic DNA viruses, divided into two main genera: Avihepadnavirus, which infects birds;and Orthohepadnavirus, which infects mammals. The human hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a member of the latter family and contains a relaxed circular double-stranded DNA genome of approximately 3 kb, and the objective of this study is to evaluate the genetic diversity of the genome of the Hepadnaviridae family. Materials and Methods: For this study, we evaluated the 26 NCBI reference sequences of the Hepadnaviridae family. Result: The two main genera, Avihepadnavirus and Orthohepadnavirus, show low similarity between them. The Orthohepadnavirus, to which HBV belongs, has two important hosts, monkeys and bats, while the genus, which infects humans, has greater diversity but is similar to the viruses that infect monkeys. The Paraepadnavirus isolated from the white sucker fish and the Herpetohepadnavirus from the Tibetan frog showed strong similarity with the Avihepadnavirus found in birds. The Metahepadnavirus isolated from the bluegill fish was the Hepadnaviridae which had the greatest difference, with less than 20% similarity using CLC Sequence Viewer. Conclusion: The Hepadnaviridae genomic replication cycle involves a late reverse transcriptase (RT) step. This polymerase, however, does not have proofreading activity, resulting in genetic variability in the Hepadnaviridae family.

Introduction: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) usually presents neuropsychiatric manifestations, such as psychosis, convulsion, mood disorder and chronic headache, with mood disorder being the most prevalent. It is also known that other psychiatric disorders and menstrual cycle disorders are frequent in SLE. The aim of this study was to describe for the first time the frequency of premenstrual dysphoric disorder in patients with SLE diagnosis, and its association with depression and anxiety. Material and Methods: An evaluation was made of 62 (sixty-two) patients with diagnosis of SLE, based on the American College of Rheumatology criteria, who received follow-up care at an ambulatory reference center. The patients were submitted to a sociodemographic evaluation questionnaire, upon which the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (MINI PLUS), Brazilian Version 5.0.0, was used to evaluate the diagnosis. Results: Twenty (32%) patients were found to have premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and there was a statistically significant association with major depression (p = 0.010), but no statistical significance was found with dysthymia (p = 0.063) or anxiety (p = 0.223). Conclusions: The frequency of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in patients with SLE was high, as well as the frequency of major depression in this group. There was an association between these two disorders.

目的:研究9,10-二甲基-1,2-苯并蒽(9,10-dimethyl-1,2-benzanthracene,DMBA)以及蜂胶乙醇提取物(ethanol extract of propolis,EPE)对金仓鼠舌黏膜组织反应的影响。方法:60只金仓鼠按实验周期被随机分为两大组,每组再被分为EPE组、蜂胶水提取物(aqueous propolis extract,APE)组和DMBA组(n=20)。测定实验鼠舌黏膜的临床和组织学改变,包括面积、容积的临床改变,鳞状上皮组织的结构和细胞学变化,并测量鳞状细胞癌组织学上的改变区域。结果:各组在第13周和第20周所测定的实验结果不存在显著差异。在第13周,EPE组出现1例单一鳞状细胞癌;在第20周,EPE组的鳞状细胞癌的发生率最高,但与其他组比较差异无统计学意义。结论:蜂胶乙醇提取物对舌黏膜组织的影响以及其致癌机制还有待研究。

BACKGROUND Low bone mineral density(BMD)is common in patients with inflammatory bowel ***,nutritional risk factors for low BMD in the ulcerative colitis(UC)population are still poorly *** To investigate the association of anthropometric indicators and body composition with BMD in patients with *** This is a cross-sectional study on adult UC patients of both genders who were followed on an outpatient basis.A control group consisting of healthy volunteers,family members,and close people was also *** nutritional indicators evaluated were body mass index(BMI),total body mass(TBM),waist circumference(WC),body fat in kg(BFkg),body fat in percentage(BF%),trunk BF(TBF),and also lean *** composition and BMD assessments were performed by dual-energy X-ray *** The sociodemographic characteristics of patients with UC(n=68)were similar to those of healthy volunteers(n=66)(P>0.05).Most patients(97.0%)were in remission of the disease,58.8%were eutrophic,33.8%were overweight,39.0%had high WC,and 67.6%had excess BF%.However,mean BMI,WC,BFkg,and TBF of UC patients were lower when compared to those of the control group(P<0.05).Reduced BMD was present in 41.2%of patients with UC(38.2%with osteopenia and 2.9%with osteoporosis)and 3.0%in the control group(P<0.001).UC patients with low BMD had lower BMI,TBM,and BFkg values than those with normal BMD(P<0.05).Male patients were more likely to have low BMD(prevalence ratio[PR]=1.86;95%confidence interval[CI]:1.07-3.26).Those with excess weight(PR=0.43;95%CI:0.19-0.97)and high WC(PR=0.44;95%CI:0.21-0.94)were less likely to have low *** Patients with UC in remission have a high prevalence of metabolic bone *** fat appears to protect against the development of low BMD in these patients.

Objective In this study,we assess the delivery of congenital pediatric surgical care under Brazil’s system of universal health coverage and evaluate differences in delivery between public and private *** A cross-sectional national survey of pediatric surgeons in Brazil was *** were asked which of 23 interventions identified through the Disease Control Priorities 3(Surgical Interventions for Congenital Anomalies)they perform and to report barriers faced while providing surgical *** were weighted by state and stratified by sector(public vs private).Results A sample of 352 responses was obtained and weighted to represent 1378 practicing pediatric surgeons registered in Brazil during the survey time.73%spend the majority of their time working in the public sector(‘SistemaÚnico de Saúde’and Foundation hospitals),and most of them also work in the private ***,Brazilian pediatric surgeons have the expertise to provide thoracic,abdominal,and urologic *** working mostly in the public sector were more likely to report a lack of access to essential medications(25%vs 9%,p<0.01)and a lack of access to hospital beds for surgical patients(52%vs 32%,p<0.01).Conclusions Brazilian pediatric surgeons routinely perform thoracic,abdominal,and urologic *** working in government-financed hospitals face barriers related to infrastructure,which may impact Brazilians who rely on Brazil’s universal health coverage *** that support pediatric surgeons working in the public sector may promote the workforce available to provide congenital pediatric surgical care.
