With the increasing penetration of DC systems into the high voltage and medium voltage power industry,DC voltage is becoming common for distribution/transmission and to supply different typologies of *** allowable extent of AC ripple superimposed to DC,and its effect on insulation ageing,is a long-term discussed *** most harmful phenomenon causing extrinsic ageing acceleration and insulation system premature failure is partial discharges(PD);thus,the risk of incepting PD due to AC ripple could become a primary issue for electrical asset equipment *** this work,the impact of AC sinusoidal ripple on insulation system life and reliability is dealt with,considering both intrinsic and extrinsic ageing but focusing on the latter,that is,the PD *** are performed to assess how the jump voltage(due to AC ripple)and the DC component impact on PD activity in terms of amplitude and repetition *** the first time,the correlation between the magnitude of jump voltage associated with ripple and PD inception is established,shedding a light on the allowable ripple extent which does not impact significantly on ageing and premature insulation *** approach can provide straightforward tools for design specification and ageing inference of insulation systems.

The ability to track upper extremity movement during activity of daily living has the potential to facilitate the recovery of individuals with neurological or physical injuries. Hence, the use of Surface Electromyography （sEMG） signals to predict upper extremity movement is an area of interest in the research community. A less established technique, Force Myography （FMG）, which uses force sensors to detect forearm muscle contraction patterns, is also able to detect some movements of the arm. This paper investigates the comparative performance of sEMG and FMG when predicting wrist, forearm and elbow positions using signals extracted from the forearm only. Support Vector Machine （SVM） and Linear discriminant Analysis （LDA） classifiers were used to evaluate the prediction performance of both FMG and sEMG data. Ten healthy volunteers participated in this study. Under a cross validation across a repetition evaluation scheme, the SVM classifier obtained averaged accuracies of 84.3%, 82.4% and 71.0%, respectively, for predicting elbow, forearm and wrist positions using FMG; while sEMG yielded 75.4%, 83.4% and 92.4% accuracies for predicting the same respective positions. The accuracies obtained using SVM are slightly, but statistical significantly, higher than the ones obtained using LDA. However, the trends on the classification performances between FMG and sEMG are consistent. These results also indicate that the forearm FMG pattern is highly influenced by the change of elbow position, while the forearm sEMG is less subjected to the change. Overall, both forearm FMG and sEMG techniques provide abundant information that can be utilized for tracking the upper extremity movements.

This paper presents numerical investigations into a ridged surface whose design is inspired by the geometry of a Farrer’*** objective of the performed research is to assess if the proposed Bioinspired Ridged Surface (BRS) can potentiallyimprove wear resistance of soil-engaging components used in agricultural machinery and to validate numerical simulationsperformed using software based on the discrete Element Method (DEM).The wear performance of the BRS is experimentallydetermined and also compared with a conventional flat *** size of soil particles and relative velocities between theabrasive sand and the testing surfaces are *** results show that the numerical simulations are in agreement withthe experimental results and support the hypothesis that abrasive wear is greatly reduced by substituting a conventional flatsurface with the BRS.

Resection margin influences the outcome of patients with bilobar colorectal liver metastases

AIMTo evaluate the outcome of patients with bilobar colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) and identify clinico-pathological variables that influenced survival. METHODSPatients with bilobar CRLM were identified from a prospectively maintained hepatobiliary database during the study period (January 2010-June 2014). Collated data included demographics, primary tumour treatment, surgical data, histopathology analysis and clinical outcome. Down-staging therapy included Oxaliplatin- or Irinotecan- based regimens, and Cetuximab was also used in patients that were K-RAS wild-type. Response to neo-adjuvant therapy was assessed at the multi-disciplinary team meeting and considered for surgery if all macroscopic CRLM were resectable with a clear margin while preserving sufficient liver parenchyma. RESULTSOf the 136 patients included, thirty-two (23.5%) patients were considered inoperable and referred for palliative chemotherapy, and thirty-four (25%) patients underwent liver resection. Seventy (51.4%) patients underwent down-staging therapy, of which 37 (52.8%) patients responded sufficiently to undergo liver resection. Patients that failed to respond to down-staging therapy (n = 33, 47.1%) were referred for palliative therapy. There was a significant difference in overall survival between the three groups (surgery vs down-staging therapy vs inoperable disease, P P P = 0.017). On multi-variate analysis, R0 resection (P = 0.030) and female (P = 0.036) gender significantly influenced overall survival. CONCLUSIONPatients undergoing liver resection with bilobar CRLM have a significantly better survival outcome. R0 resection is associated with improved disease-free and overall survival in this patient group.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most frequent liver neoplasm,and its incidence rates are constantly *** the availability of potentially curative treatments(liver transplantation,surgical resection,thermal ablation),long-term outcomes are affected by a high recurrence rate(up to 70%of cases 5 years after treatment).HCC recurrence within 2 years of treatment is defined as“early”and is generally caused by the occult intrahepatic spread of the primary neoplasm and related to the tumor burden.A recurrence that occurs after 2 years of treatment is defined as“late”and is related to de novo HCC,independent of the primary *** HCC recurrence has a significantly poorer prognosis and outcome than late *** pathogenesis corresponds to different predictors of the risk of early or late *** adequate knowledge of predictive factors and recurrence risk stratification guides the therapeutic strategy and post-treatment *** at high risk of HCC recurrence should be referred to treatments with the lowest recurrence rate and when standardized to combined or adjuvant therapy *** review aimed to expose the recurrence predictors and examine the differences between predictors of early and late recurrence.

Efficient flexible perovskite solar cells and modules were developed using a combination of SnO2 and mesoporous-TiO2 as a fully solution-processed electron transport layer （ETL）. Cells using such ETLs delivered a maximum power conversion efficiency （PCE） of 14.8%, which was 30% higher than the PCE of cells with only SnO2 as the ETL. The presence of a mesoporous TiO2 scaffold layer over SnO2 led to higher rectification ratios, lower series resistances, and higher shunt resistances. The cells were also evaluated under 200 and 400 lx artificial indoor illumination and found to deliver maximum power densities of 9.77 μW/cm^2 （estimated PCE of 12.8%） and 19.2 μW/cm^2 （estimated PCE of 13.3%）, respectively, representing the highest values among flexible photovoltaic technologies reported so far. Furthermore, for the first time, a fully laser-patterned flexible perovskite module was fabricated using a complete three-step laser scribing procedure （P1, P2, P3） with a PCE of 8.8% over an active area of 12 cm^2 under an illumination of 1 sun.

Long lasting response to second-line everolimus in kidney cancer

In the case presented here, everolimus was administered after first line therapy with sunitinib in a patient with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. The safety profile was excellent. The prolonged progression-free survival(PFS) obtained with everolimus in this case is of peculiar interest, as it is a multiple of the median PFS obtained in with everolimus in the regulatory trial. Such finding suggests that a subset of patients with renal cell carcinma may particularly benefit from everolimus.

In this paper an asymptotic formula of Voronovskaja type for a multivariate extension of the Kantorovich generalized sampling series is given. Moreover a quantitative version in terms of some moduli of smoothness is established. Finally some particular examples of kernels are discussed, as the Bochner-Riesz kernel and the multivariate splines.
