THIS note deals with the geochemical behavior of elements near the water/sediment interface of a fossil seafloor. The Nandan-Hechi basin, located in northwest Guangxi, southern china, is selected for exemplified study. It is an elongated basin, and developed on a Caledonian basement. Its Devonian strata hosthydrtothermally sedimentary formations, and are typical of the intra-platformal basin facies sediments oversouthern china. A steady sedimentary sequence may be observed, commonly going from carboniferouspelite at bottom, upward through bedded chert, thickly banded argillaceous limestone, thinly bandedsiliceous limestone and small lensiod argillaceous limestone in the middle, to coarse lensoid siliceousand/or argillaceous limestone at the top. The chert and some argillaceous limestone are related to hydrothermally sedimentary origin. The present study focuses on the lensoid argillaceous limestone formation. This formation contains the following characteristic sedimentary structures: small lensoid structure,vermiform structure, wave-shaped banded structure, massive structure, white framboid structure, andcage netting structure.

Homoleptic mononuclear and binuclear ruthenium carbonyls Ru(CO)n(n=3―5) and Ru2.CO)n(n=8,9) have been investigated using density functional *** isomers are *** Ru(CO)5,the lowest-energy structure is the singlet D3h trigonal *** to Os(CO)5,the distorted square pyramid isomer with C2. symmetry lies ～7 kJ·mol-1 higher in *** the unsaturated mononuclear ruthenium carbonyls Ru(CO)4 and Ru(CO)3,a singlet structure with C2. symmetry and a Cs bent Tshaped structure are the lowest-energy structures,*** global minimum for the Ru2.CO)9 is a singly bridged(CO)4Ru(μ-CO)Ru(CO)4 structure.A triply bridged Ru2.CO)6(μ-CO)3 structure analogous to the known Fe2.CO)9 structure is predicted to lie very close in energy to the global *** Ru2.CO)8,the doubly bridged C2.structure is predicted to be the global *** the lowest-energy structures of M2.CO)n(M=Fe,Ru,Os,n=9,8),it is found that both iron and ruthenium are favored to form structures containing more bridging carbonyl groups,while osmium prefers to have structures with less bridging carbonyl *** study of dissociation energy shows that the dissociation of Ru2.CO)9 into the mononuclear fragments Ru(CO)5+Ru(CO)4 is a less energetically demanding process than the dissociation of one carbonyl group from Ru2.CO)9 to give Ru2.CO)8.

Traditional chinese Medicine(TCM)has been widelyand successfully used in treating illnesses ranging frominflammation to cancer,and compounds from medicinalherbs and minerals are playing more and more importantroles in taming various kinds of diseases[1],exemplifiedby artemisinin and arsenic trioxide(ATO).Artemisinin(or Qinghaosu in chinese)is isolated from a plant calledsweet wormwood(Artemisia annua;or Qinghao in Chi-nese)which has been used as an antipyretic remedy formore than 1500 years in *** has impressiveparasiticidal properties in vitro and in vivo,and is now oneof the most important class of antimalarial agents[2.3].ATO is a common,naturally occurring substance whichhad been used in {2. for a long time as a therapeuticagent for some severe diseases with the ancient philosophyof'treating an evil with a toxic'[4].In 1990s,ATO wasshown to be able to cause partial differentiation at low doseand apoptosis at high concentration of acute promyelocyticleukemia(APL)cells[5],and induce complete remissionin 90% of patients with relapsed or refractory APL[6-8].

Gaohu is one of the main bowed stringed instruments used in Guangdong music and chinese native Orchestra. However its sound intensity has never been carefully measured. In this paper the sound power measurements of Gaohu were performed in a reverberation chamber according to the chinese national standard. Two qualified musicians performed on their own instruments. The mean sound power levels and the dynamic ranges of Gaohu were investigated by four channel acoustic measuring equipments when single notes, music scale and melodies were performed under pp, mp, f and ff dynamics. Great differences were found when Gaohu performed single notes, while the sound power levels were quite close when music scale were performed under f dynamic to those when melodies were performed under normal dynamic mark, the sound power levels of Gaohu when music scale was performed under f dynamics were suggested as the typical and representative value of the sound intensities of Gaohu instrument.

Additives were used to increase gas hydrate formation rate and storage capacity. Experimental tests of methane hydrate formation were carried out in surfactant water solutions in a high-pressure *** dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and alkyl polysaccharide glycoside (APG) were used to increase hydrate formation. The effect of SDS on hydrate formation is more pronounced compared APG. Cyclopentane (CP) also improves hydrate formation rates while it cannot increase methane gas storage capacity.

Poly-crystalline silicon thin film has big potential of reducing the cost of solar cells. In this paper the preparation of thin film is introduced, and then the morphology of poly-crystalline thin film, is discussed. On the film we developed poly-crystalline silicon thin film solar cells with efficiency up to 6.05% without anti-reflection coating.

Presented in this paper is an integrated approach of computer-aided product development, process design and operation analysis based on a kilo-plant. The implemented kilo-plant, as a research platform to manufacture product in kilogram-scale, was designed especially for fine and specialty chemicals. The characteristics of product synthesis, process operation and product quality control are investigated coupled with computer-aided monitoring, online modeling, simulation and operation process optimization. In this way, chemical product discovery, process design and operation are integrated in a systematic approach, in the aim to respond to rapid changing marketplace demands to new products.
