Utility of real-time 3D visualization system in the early stage of phacoemulsification training

●AIM:To determine the teaching effects of a real-time three dimensional(3D)visualization system in the operating room for early-stage phacoemulsification training.●METHODS:A total of 10 ophthalmology residents of the first-year postgraduate were *** the residents were novices to cataract ***-time cataract surgical observations were performed using a custom-built 3D visualization *** training lasted 4wk(32h)in all.A modified International Council of Ophthalmology’s Ophthalmology Surgical Competency Assessment Rubric(ICO-OSCAR)containing 4 specific steps of cataract surgery was *** self-assessment(self)and expert-assessment(expert)were performed through the microsurgical attempts in the wet lab for each participant.●RESULTS:Compared with pre-training assessments(self 3.2±0.8,expert 2.5±0.6),the overall mean scores of posttraining(self 5.2±0.4,expert 4.7±0.6)were significantly improved after real-time observation training of 3D visualization system(P<0.05).Scores of 4 surgical items were significantly improved both self and expert assessment after training(P<0.05).●CONCLUSION:The 3D observation training provides novice ophthalmic residents with a better understanding of intraocular microsurgical *** is a useful tool to improve teaching efficiency of surgical education.

Background:Triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC)is an aggressive type of breast cancer associated with poor prognosis and limited treatment *** androgen receptor(AR)has emerged as a potential therapeutic target for luminal androgen receptor(LAR)***,multiple studies have claimed that anti-androgen therapy for AR-positive TNBC only has limited clinical *** study aimed to investigate the role of AR in TNBC and its detailed ***:Immunohistochemistry and TNBC tissue sections were applied to investigate AR and nectin cell adhesion molecule 4(NECTIN4)expression in TNBC ***,in vitro and in vivo assays were used to explore the function of AR and estrogen receptor beta(ERβ)in *** immunoprecipitation sequencing(ChIP-seq),co-immunoprecipitation(co-IP),molecular docking method,and luciferase reporter assay were performed to identify key molecules that affect the function of ***:Based on the TNBC tissue array analysis,we revealed that ERβand AR were positive in 21.92%(32/146)and 24.66%(36/146)of 146 TNBC samples,respectively,and about 13.70%(20/146)of TNBC patients were ERβpositive and AR *** further demonstrated the pro-tumoral effects of AR on TNBC cells,however,the oncogenic biology was significantly suppressed when ERβtransfection in LAR TNBC cell lines but not in AR-negative ***,we identified that NECTIN4 promoter–42 bp to–28 bp was an AR response element,and that ERβinteracted with AR thus impeding the AR-mediated NECTIN4 transcription which promoted epithelial–mesenchymal transition in tumor ***:This study suggests that ERβfunctions as a suppressor mediating the effect of AR in TNBC prognosis and cell ***,our current research facilitates a better understanding of the role and mechanisms of AR in TNBC carcinogenesis.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical advantages of laparoscopic transverse abdominal wall suspension in treating pelvic organ ***:Sixty patients diagnosed with moderate to severe pelvic organ prolapse and underwent surgical treatment in our hospital between January 2022 and December 2023 were *** to different surgical methods,they were divided into an observation group(given laparoscopic transverse abdominal wall suspension)and a control group(given transvaginal mesh implantation),with 30 subjects/*** data on perioperative-related indicators,quality of life scores,postoperative recurrence,and complications of the two groups of patients were ***:The postoperative hospitalization days and intraoperative bleeding volume of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group,but had longer operation time than that of the control group(P0.05).Conclusion:Laparoscopic transverse abdominal wall suspension was more effective in treating pelvic organ prolapse and is an ideal surgical procedure.

Reconfigurable and polarization-dependent optical filtering for transflective full-color generation utilizing low-loss phase-change materials

All-dielectric metasurface, which features low optical absorptance and high resolution, is becoming a promising candidate for full-color generation. However, the optical response of current metamaterials is fixed and lacks active tuning. In this work, we demonstrate a reconfigurable and polarization-dependent active color generation technique by incorporating low-loss phase change materials(PCMs) and CaF_2 all-dielectric substrate. Based on the strong Mie resonance effect and low optical absorption structure, a transflective, full-color with high color purity and gamut value is achieved. The spectrum can be dynamically manipulated by changing either the polarization of incident light or the PCM state. High transmittance and reflectance can be simultaneously achieved by using low-loss PCMs and substrate. The novel active metasurfaces can bring new inspiration in the areas of optical encryption, anti-counterfeiting, and display technologies.

Optimization on magnetic properties of Nd-doped Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles for magnetic shielding fabrics

High magnetic protective fabrics with rare earth Nd doped Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles were fabricated via a grafting *** structure,crystal form,and elemental composition of nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy,energy dispersive X-ray,X-ray powder diffraction,and X-ray photoelectron *** obtained NdFe_(2)O_(4) nanoparticles show spherical shape with fine dispersion and reasonable element ***,they demonstrate fine superparamagnetic properties with a magnetic saturation value of 29.25 A·m^(2)/g and low coercivity of 1.902 mT through the vibrating sample magnetometry technique,which can be well developed in magnetic shielding protective ***,the cotton fabrics with plain weave were finished by a proofing rapier loom as a *** NdFe_(2)O_(4) nanoparticles underwent some appropriate surface modification and then were grafted onto the cotton fabrics by a bridge agent of N,N’-dissuccinimidyl *** morphology,structure,dispersion effect,and electromagnetic protective properties of the fabrics were observed through scanning electron microscopy,Fourier infrared spectroscopy,thermogravimetric analysisdifferential scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC),and a vector network *** reliable fabrics with grafting reaction on the interface are expected to have potential applications in the field of electromagnetic protection and biomedicine fields.

Water modeling on fluid flow and mixing phenomena in a BOF steelmaking converter

A 1∶8 physical water model was constructed to investigate the fluid flow and mixing phenomena in the basic oxygen furnace(BOF)*** particle image velocimetry was employed to measure the velocity distribution of the bath and the high-speed camera was applied to capture the cavity shape in the combined blowing BOF *** mixing time for varied operating conditions was measured by the stimulus-response *** cavity depth increased with the decrease in the lance height and the increase in the top gas flow rate while the bottom blowing gas had little influence on the cavity *** minimum cavity depth was obtained under the condition of a 69.8 m^(3)/h top gas flow rate,a 287.5 mm lance height and a 0.93 m^(3)/h bottom blowing gas flow rate,which was 161.2 *** mixing time decreased as the lance height decreased and the top blowing gas flow rate *** mixing time was first decreased and then increased with the increase in the bottom gas flow *** the condition of 69.8 m^(3)/h gas flow rate of top blowing,the 287.5 mm lance height and the 0.93 m^(3)/h gas flow rate of bottom blowing,the mixing time in the converter was 48.65 *** empirical formula between the stirring power and the mixing time in the converter was calculated.

Images and videos provide a wealth of information for people in production and *** most digital information is transmitted via optical fiber,the image acquisition and transmission processes still rely heavily on electronic *** development of all-optical transmission networks and optical computing frameworks has pointed to the direction for the next generation of data transmission and information ***,we propose a high-speed,low-cost,multiplexed parallel and one-piece all-fiber architecture for image acquisition,encoding,and transmission,called the Multicore Fiber Acquisition and Transmission Image System(MFAT).Based on different spatial and modal channels of the multicore fiber,fiber-coupled self-encoding,and digital aperture decoding technology,scenes can be observed directly from up to 1 km *** expansion of capacity provides the possibility of parallel coded transmission of multimodal high-quality *** requires no additional signal transmitting and receiving *** all-fiber processing saves the time traditionally spent on signal conversion and image pre-processing(compression,encoding,and modulation).Additionally,it provides an effective solution for 2D information acquisition and transmission tasks in extreme environments such as high temperatures and electromagnetic interference.

The construction and functionalization of lanthanide-organic cages have been a research hotspot in coordination *** from the unique luminescent and magnetic properties of lanthanide ions,the potential applications of lanthanide-organic cages in biological imaging applications are promising,but only a few corresponding explorations have been *** rein,we introduced a series of lanthanide tetrahedral cages,(Eu_(n)Gd_(4-n)L_(4))(sol)_8(n=0,1,2,3 and 4,where L=(4,4',4"-tris(4,4,4-trifluoro-1,3-dioxobutyl)-triphenylamine,and sol=dimethyl sulfoxide and methanol),with potential applications in biological *** the good luminescent and magnetic properties of Eu^(3+) and Gd^(3+) ions,Eu_(4)L_(4) and Gd_(4)L_(4) complexes show a high luminescence quantum yield of 29% in DMSO and large longitudinal relaxivity(r_(1)) of 11.4(mmol/L)^(-1)/s at 0.5 T in water containing 1 vol% DMSO,*** heterobimetallic Eu-Gd complexes achieve a dual imaging mode by combining luminescent and magnetic centers in one *** the Gd:Eu ratio increases from 1:3 to 3:1,the r_(1) values increases from 5.33 to 8.64(mmoI/L)^(-1)/s,higher than that of commercial contrast agent Gd-DOTA(3.23(mmol/L)^(-1)/s).Owing to their low toxicity and good cell imaging ability toward ECA 109 cells,the selfassembled Eu-Gd heterobimetallic tetrahedral cages could be potential candidates for the multimodal imaging contrast agent.

Analyses of stable isotopes(C,O,H)in tree rings are increasingly important cross-disciplinary *** rapid development in this field documented in an increasing number of publications requires a comprehensive *** study includes a bibliometric analysis-based review to better understand research trends in tree ring stable isotope ***,1475 publications were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection for *** findings are that:(1)numbers of annual publications and citations increased since *** 1974 to 1980,there were around two relevant publications per ***,from 2020 to 2022,this rose sharply to 109 publications per ***,average article citations were less than four per year before 1990,but were around four per article per year after 2000;(2)the major subjects using tree ring stable isotopes include forestry,geosciences,and environmental sciences,contributing to 42.5%of the total during 1974-2023;(3)the top three most productive institutions are the Chinese Academy of Sciences(423),the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest,Snow and Landscape Research(227),and the University of Arizona(204).These achievements result from strong collaborations;(4)review papers,for example,(Dawson et al.,Annu Rev Ecol Syst 33:507-559,2002)and(McCarroll and Loader,Quat Sci Rev 23:771-801,2004),are among the most cited,with more than 1000 citations;(5)tree ring stable isotope studies mainly focus on climatology and ecology,with atmospheric CO_(2) one of the most popular *** 2010,precipitation and drought have received increasing *** on this analysis,the research stages,key findings,debated issues,limitations and direc-tions for future research are *** study serves as an important attempt to understand the progress on the use of stable isotopes in tree rings,providing scientific guid-ance for young researchers in this field.
