SiCp/Al2O3-Al composites were synthesized by means of direct metal oxidation method. The composition and microstructures of the composites were investigated using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and metallurgical microscope. The effects of technical parameters on the properties of the product were analyzed. The results indicate that the composite possesses a dense microstructure, composed of three interpenetrated phases. Of them, SiO2 layer prohibits the powdering of the composites; Mg promotes the wetting and infiltration of the system and Si restricts the interfacial reaction while improving the wetting ability between reinforcement and matrix.

A novel chitinolytic and chitosanolytic bacterium, Sphingomonas sp. CJ-5, has been isolated and characterized. It secretes both chitinase and chitosanase into surrounding medium in response to chitin or chitosan induction. To characterize the enzymes, both chitinase and chitosanase were purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, Sephadex G-200 gel filtration and DEAE-Sepharose Fast Flow. SDS-PAGE analysis demonstrated molecular masses of chitinase and chitosanase were 230 kDa and 45 kDa respectively. The optimum hydrolysis conditions for chitinase were about pH 7.0 and 36 ℃, and these for chitosanase were pH 6.5 and 56 ℃, respectively. Both enzymes were quite stable up to 45 ℃ for one hour at pH 5-8. These results show that CJ-5 may have potential for industrial application particularly in recycling of chitin wastes.

Reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome(RPLS)is a rare brain-capillary leak syndrome,characterized by clinical symptoms of headache,visual loss,seizures and altered mental *** syndrome is usually reversible and is associated with hypertension,nephropathy,and use of immunosuppressive medication and cytotoxic *** describe two rare cases of RPLS occurring in colorectal cancer,both of which presented with coma,that we believe can be directly attributed to bevacizumab,a monoclonal antibody that inhibits the angiogenesis of tumours by specifically blocking vascular endothelial growth *** analysed the clinical features,risk factors and outcomes of RPLS in these two patients,and although no typical finding was identified on imaging examination,we found that inadequate blood pressure control was one of the risk factors leading to RPLS and that supportive treatment including intensive blood pressure control improved *** to the increasing use of bevacizumab in colorectal cancer,clinicians should be aware of this potential complication.

Background:Identification of activated epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR)mutations and application of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors(EGFR-TKIs)have greatly changed the therapeutic strategies of non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC).However,the long-term efficacy of EGFR-TKI therapy is limited due to the development of drug *** aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between the aberrant alterations of 8 driver genes and the primary resistance to EGFR-TKIs in advanced NSCLC patients with activated EGFR ***:We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data from 416 patients with stage III/IV or recurrent NSCLC who received an initial EGFR-TKI treatment,from April 2004 and March 2011,at the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer *** genetic alterations associated with the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs,including the alterations in BIM,ALK,KRAS,PIK3CA,PTEN,MET,IGF1R,and ROS1,were detected by the routine clinical *** progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)were compared between different groups using Kaplan-Meier survival analysis with the log-rank test.A Cox regression model was used to estimate multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios(HRs)and their 95%confi-dence intervals(95%CIs)associated with the PFS and ***:Among the investigated patients,169 NSCLC patients harbored EGFR-sensitive ***-mutant patients having PTEN deletion had a shorter PFS and OS than those with intact PTEN(P=0.003 for PFS,and P=0.034 for OS).In the combined molecular analysis of EGFR signaling pathway and resistance genes,we found that EGFR-mutant patients coexisted with aberrant alterations in EGFR signaling pathway and those having resistant genes had a statistically poorer PFS than those without such alterations(P<0.001).A Cox proportional regression model determined that PTEN deletion(HR=4.29,95%CI=1.72-10.70)and low PTEN expression(HR=1.96,95%CI=1.22-3.13),MET FISH+(HR=2.83,95%CI=1.37-5.86)were independent predictors for PFS

A dynamic model for railway freight overbooking

In order to apply overbooking idea in Chinese railway freight industry to improve revenue, a Markov decision process(dynamic programming) model for railway freight reservation was formulated and the overbooking limit level was proposed as a control policy. However, computing the dynamic programming treatment needs six nested loops and this will be burdensome for real-world problems. To break through the calculation limit, the properties of value function were analyzed and the overbooking protection level was proposed to reduce the calculating quantity. The simulation experiments show that the overbooking protection level for the lower-fare class is higher than that for the higher-fare class, so the overbooking strategy is nested by fare class. Besides, by analyzing the influence on the overbooking strategy of freight arrival probability and cancellation probability, the proposed approach is efficient and also has a good application prospect in reality. Also, compared with the existing reservation(FCFS), the overbooking strategy performs better in the fields of vacancy reduction and revenue improvement.

Background: Oxaliplatin, irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and l-leucovorin (FOLFIRINOX) has become one of the first-line treatment options for advanced pancreatic cancer (PC). However, the relatively high rate of grade 3 or 4 adverse events associated with the standard dosage of FOLFIRINOX limits its widespread use in clinical practice. In this study, we were to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a modified FOLFIRINOX regimen as a first-line chemotherapy for Chinese patients with metastatic PC. Methods: Patients with histologically confirmed primary metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma with an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status score of 0-2 were recruited to receive the modified FOLFIRINOX regimen (intravenous infusion of oxaliplatin, 65 mg/m2;irinotecan, 150 mg/m2;l-leucovorin, 200 mg/ m2;and 5-fluorouracil, 2400 mg/m2, repeated every 2 weeks). The treatment was continued for 12 cycles unless the patient had progressive disease (PD), stable disease (SD) with symptom deterioration, unacceptable adverse events, or requested to terminate the treatment prematurely. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR). Results: Sixty-five patients were enrolled from July 2012 to April 2017 in three institutions, and they all received at least one cycle of chemotherapy, with a median of 8 cycles (range 1-12 cycles). No complete response was observed. Twenty-one (32.3%) patients had partial responses, and 27 (41.5%) had SD. The ORR and disease control rate of the study cohort was 32.3% and 73.8%. The estimated median overall survival and progression-free survival were 11.60 (95% confidence interval [CI] 8.76-14.44) and 5.77 (95% CI 5.00-6.54) months. Major grade 3 or 4 adverse events included neutropenia (12.3%) and diarrhea (6.2%). No treatment-related death was observed. Conclusions: Modified FOLFIRINOX was well-tolerated and might be a promising option as first-line therapy for Chinese patients with metastatic PC.
