Erectile dysfunction （ED） is considered a condition with a broad range of etiologies. Obstructive sleep apnea （OSA） syndrome is one of the lesser studied risk factors for ED. We intend to summarize the current evidence on the relationship between OSA and sexual impairment, focusing on the results in terms of erectile function of the different therapies offered to OSA patients. A systematic review was conducted, selecting articles related to the physiology of OSA and ED, and to the treatments of OSA syndrome and their reported outcomes in erectile and sexual function. Higher prevalences of ED in the OSA groups have been published. However, whether this effect on the erectile function occurs in the entire range of OSA severities remains unclear. Several hypotheses were proposed to explain the physiology of this association. Continuous Positive Airway Pressure as a treatment for OSA patients with ED has achieved a significative improvement in the sexual parameters in most of the studies. Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors （iPDE5） on demand are useful as a treatment for ED in this subgroup of patients, with high satisfaction rates. The surgical treatment for the OSA evidenced benefits over the erectile function, and the effect on the sexual satisfaction of the therapy using Mandibular Advancement Devices is still undefined.

Scanning electrochemical microscopy represents a powerful tool for electro（chemical） characterization of surfaces, but its applicability has been limited in most cases at microscale spatial resolution, and the greatest challenge has been the scaling down to the nanoscale for fabrication and the use of nanometer-sized tips. Objective:To evaluate the hypoglycemic and hypocholesterolemic activities of the aqueous preparation of Kalanchoe pinnata(***) leaves in streplozotocin-induced diabetic ***:Diabetes mellitus was induced in rats by a single administration of streptozotocin(60 mg/Kg).Diabetic rats were then treated with aqueous *** for 30 *** glucose,*** composition,liver and kidney function indices,inflammatory markers,and key enzymes of hepatic carbohydrate and lipid metabolism were ***:The untreated and treated diabetic groups lost weight and consumed less food compared to the normal *** noted 37.9%decrease in fasting blood glucose in the treated diabetic group compared to 13.2%and 17.0%increases in normal and untreated diabetic groups *** cholesterol and triglyceride levels were significantly(P<0.05) reduced in the treated diabetic group compared to the untreated diabetic *** urea nitrogen was significantly(P<0.05) elevated in the untreated and treated diabetic groups compared lo the normal *** alkaline phosphatase and hepatic pyruvate kinase activities were significantly(P<0.05) elevated in the treated diabetic *** albumin level was signilieantiy(P<0.05) reduced in the untreated diabetic *** IL-6 was significantly(P<0.05) depressed in the treated diabetic ***:The observed decrease in body weight,blood glucose and cholesterol level suggests that the aqueous *** preparation consumption may be beneficial in the management of diabetes *** observed adverse effect on alkaline phosphatase activity may be due to the combined effect of streptozotocin-induced diabetes and *** preparation administration.

Providing artificial light and enhancing the quality of the respective light sources is of continued interest in the fields of solid state,condensed matter,and semiconductor *** research has been carried out to increase the luminous efficiency,lifetime and colour stability of such ***,the emission characteristics of a given light source do not necessarily comply with today’s often sophisticated ***,beam shaping addresses the transformation of a given light distribution into a customized *** is typically achieved by secondary optical elements often sporting elaborate designs,where the actual light source takes up only a small fraction of the system’s *** designs limit the final light source to a single permanent operation mode,which can only be overcome by employing mechanically adjustable optical *** we show that organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs)can enable real-time regulation of a beam shape without relying on secondary optical elements and without using any mechanical *** a red light-emitting two-unit OLED architecture,we demonstrate the ability to continuously tune between strongly forward and strongly sideward emission,where the device efficiency is maintained at an application-relevant level ranging between 6 and 8%of external quantum efficiency for any chosen *** combination with additional optical elements,customizable and tuneable systems are possible,whereby the tuning stems from the light source itself rather than from the use of secondary optics.

We simulated a shelterwood forest regeneration treatment by reducing basal area,and monitored the response of an avian community in oak–hickory forest on the southern Cumberland Plateau,northern Alabama,*** used five treatments:control(no removal),clear-cut(100%removal),and 25,50,and 75%removal of basal *** mapping was used to quantify bird community between mid-April and July of both 2002 and *** variables were recorded at each *** residual basal area and canopy cover showed three distinct conditions after treatment:closed canopy,open forest,and *** microclimate varied among treatments:air temperature was highest in clear-cut plots and lowest in control plots,whereas soil moisture had the opposite pattern.A total of 71 bird species were detected,with 36 of them defending *** density,species richness,and Shannon diversity index differed among the treatments;the relationship between these bird community indices and the level of basal area removal was quadratic,lowest in the clear-cut plots and highest in the intermediate *** species richness was similar among the control,25,50,and 75%removal treatments,species composition *** richness difference among treatments became smaller in the second year post-treatment(2003)with an increase in bird density and richness occurring in the clear-cut plots.

Distribution and relationship between antimicrobial resistance genes and heavy metals in surface sediments of Taihu Lake,China

Heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and other wastes released into the environment can significantly influence environmental antibiotic resistance. We investigated the occurrence of 22 antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs) and 10 heavy metal concentrations, and the relationship between ARGs and heavy metals in surface sediment from seven sites of Lake Taihu. The results showed significant correlations(p < 0.05) between sediment ARG levels,especially for tetracycline and sulfonamides(e.g., tet(A), tet(D), tet(E), tet(O), sul1, sul2 and int-1) and specific heavy metals(Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Zn, among others) in the Lake. In the surface sediments, heavy metals showed an interaction with resistance genes, but the strength of interaction was diminished with increasing depth. For most of the heavy metals, the concentration of elements in the top sediments was higher than that in other *** resistance genes(tet(A), tet(B), tet(D), tet(E) and tet(O), β-lactam resistance genes(SHV, TEM, CTX, OXA and OXY) and sulfonamide resistance genes(sulA, sul1, sul2, sul3 and int-1) were detected. They showed a trend which inferred a statistically significant increase followed by decreases in the relative abundance of these ARGs(normalized to 16 S rRNA genes) with increasing depth. This study revealed that tet(A), tet(O), TEM, OXY, int-1, sul1 and sul3 were widespread in surface sediments with high abundance, indicating that these genes deserve more attention in future work.

Given the demographic trends toward a considerably longer life expectancy,the percentage of elderly patients with prostate cancer will increase further in the upcoming ***,the question arises,should patients ≥75 years old be offered radical prostatectomy and under which circumstances? For treatment decision-making,life expectancy is more important than biological *** a result,a patient's health and mental status has to be determined and radical treatment should only be offered to those who are *** perioperative morbidity and mortality in these patients is increased relative to younger patients,patient selection according to comorbidities is a key issue that needs to be *** is known from the literature that elderly men show notably worse tumor characteristics,leading to worse oncologic outcomes after ***,elderly patients also demonstrate worse postoperative recovery of continence and erectile *** the absolute rates of both oncological and functional outcomes are still very reasonable in patients ≥75 years,a radical prostatectomy can be offered to highly selected and healthy elderly patients. Nevertheless,patients clearly need to be informed about the worse outcomes and higher perioperative risks compared to younger patients.
