Clinical impact of artificial intelligence-based solutions on imaging of the pancreas and liver

Artificial intelligence(AI)has experienced substantial progress over the last ten years in many fields of application,including healthcare.In hepatology and pancreatology,major attention to date has been paid to its application to the assisted or even automated interpretation of radiological images,where AI can generate accurate and reproducible imaging diagnosis,reducing the physicians’workload.AI can provide automatic or semi-automatic segmentation and registration of the liver and pancreatic glands and lesions.Furthermore,using radiomics,AI can introduce new quantitative information which is not visible to the human eye to radiological reports.AI has been applied in the detection and characterization of focal lesions and diffuse diseases of the liver and pancreas,such as neoplasms,chronic hepatic disease,or acute or chronic pancreatitis,among others.These solutions have been applied to different imaging techniques commonly used to diagnose liver and pancreatic diseases,such as ultrasound,endoscopic ultrasonography,computerized tomography(CT),magnetic resonance imaging,and positron emission tomography/CT.However,AI is also applied in this context to many other relevant steps involved in a comprehensive clinical scenario to manage a gastroenterological patient.AI can also be applied to choose the most convenient test prescription,to improve image quality or accelerate its acquisition,and to predict patient prognosis and treatment response.In this review,we summarize the current evidence on the application of AI to hepatic and pancreatic radiology,not only in regard to the interpretation of images,but also to all the steps involved in the radiological workflow in a broader sense.Lastly,we discuss the challenges and future directions of the clinical application of AI methods.

Green and Sustainable Software has emerged as a new and highly active area in the software community.After several years of research and work,we believe that it is now necessary to obtain a general snapshot of how the research in this area is evolving.To do so,we have applied the 5 Ws(why,when,who,where,and what),a formula for getting the complete story on a subject.We have therefore carried out a study,using 542 publications related to Green and Sustainable Software research;these were recovered using SCOPUS.The results obtained allow us to conclude that it is important to identify key elements of the research to allow researchers be fully aware of the state of the research on Green and Sustainable Software(why);the study uses papers published between 2000 and the beginning of November 2018(when);the most prolific authors are mainly from Europe,although the USA is the most active country,Green and Sustainable Software being a very interactive area with a good number of multinational publications(who);the top five keywords related to sustainable aspects are Green Software,Green IT,Software Sustainability,Energy Consumption,and Energy Efficiency(what);finally,as regards the places authors prefer to publish in,there is almost a complete balance between conferences and journals,with a trend towards an increase in the number of publications(where).

The intertidal zone (also known as seashore) are transition areas between land and sea, that are greatly influenced by the tide cycle, therefore, environmental parameters, such as temperature and salinity, oscillate according to the periods in which these areas are exposed to air. Intertidal zones are highly diverse, which makes them key ecosystems for the development of sea life (both flora and fauna) exposed to drastic environmental change. The 59 visual censuses campaigns were carried out during the full moon of each month from 2015 to 2019. Temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were recorded during each visual census and showed variations between years. Temperature showed two distinct seasons, warm and cold. A total of 14,995 organisms were recorded, belonging to 30 species, 28 genera, 15 families, five orders and one class. Ecological indices like species richness (SR), Shannon-Wiener’s diversity (H') and Fisher’s alpha (α-Fisher) showed significant differences between years, 2015 and 2016 recorded as the most diverse years, while the lowest values were recorded in 2019. Therefore, fish communities of tide pools showed to be highly diverse, with 30 species recording similar relative abundances, and according to the BVI, only 11 species were dominant. Spatio-temporal variations of temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen were highly correlated to changes in fish community structure, and the dominance of certain species, which are of great importance for the structure and dynamic of the

The coastal areas of the Baja California peninsula are characterized mainly by rocky areas, where rock pools dominate as important coastal habitats because of the tide cycle, when the water is trapped during the low tide, forming the pools. Environmental parameters like temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen of the water trapped in the pools are key factors for the flora and fauna that inhabit these areas, particularly during the warmer months when the mean values of these parameters are usually higher than the mean values of the sea surface. The aim of the present study was to determine the variation of the taxonomic diversity of the fish communities that inhabit the rock pools in the common land known as Conquista Agraria in the Pacific coast of Baja California Sur, México, from 2015 to 2019. A total of 59 visual censuses were carried out monthly during the second low tide of the full moon. Temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen showed variation throughout the study period, with two distinct seasons (warm and cold), which influenced the taxonomic diversity and taxonomic distinctness of the species recorded in the area. There was a higher diversity in the warmer months (summer) and years (2015 and 2016). In addition, according to the MDS analysis, 2017 and 2018 showed high similarity of species.

AIM：To assess the proportion of refractive errors in the Mexican population that visited primary care optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico. METHODS：Refractive data from 676 856 patients aged 6 to 90 y were collected from optometry clinics in fourteen states of Mexico between 2014 and 2015. The refractive errors were classified by the spherical equivalent（SE）, as follows：sphere＋？ cylinder. Myopia（SE〉-0.50 D）, hyperopia（SE〉＋0.50 D）, emmetropia（-0.50≤SE≤＋0.50）, and astigmatism alone（cylinder≥-0.25 D）. A negative cylinder was selected as a notation.RESULTS：The proportion（95% confidence interval） among all of the subjects was hyperopia 21.0%（20.9-21.0）, emmetropia 40.7%（40.5-40.8）, myopia 24.8%（24.7-24.9） and astigmatism alone 13.5%（13.4-13.5）. Myopia was the most common refractive error and frequency seemed to increase among the young population（10 to 29 years old）, however, hyperopia increased among the aging population（40 to 79 years old）, and astigmatism alone showed a decreasing trend with age（6 to 90y; from 19.7% to 10.8%）. There was a relationship between age and all refractive errors（approximately 60%, aged 50 and older）. The proportion of any clinically important refractive error was higher in males（61.2%） than in females（58.3%; P〈0.0001）. From fourteen states that collected information, the proportion of refractive error showed variability in different geographical areas of Mexico.CONCLUSION：Myopia is the most common refractive error in the population studied. This study provides the first data on refractive error in Mexico. Further programs and studies must be developed to address the refractive errors needs of the Mexican population.
