Modelling geographic accessibility to Primary Health Care Facilities:combining open data and geospatial analysis

ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages is the 3rd Sustainable Development Goal(SDG).Inequality in access to health care remains one of the primary challenges in achieving the *** the ever-increasing expansion of urban areas and population growth,there is a need to regularly examine the pattern of accessibility of basic amenities across regions,States and urban *** study examined geographic access to Primary Health Care Facilities(PHCF)in Nigeria using the combination of open data and geospatial analysis ***,showcasing an approach can be replicated across different regions in Sub-Saharan Africa due to issues of information *** on elevation,location of health care facilities,population and network data were *** result shows that PHCF aggregate at certain locations,*** urban agglomerations,and transit route leading to these *** concentrations are found in the capital *** average travel time to the nearest PHCF is about 14 min(Standard Deviation±13.30 min)while the maximum is about 2 *** of low accessibility areas exist across the Akwa Ibom State in the Niger Delta region of *** is an indication that most places have good geographic *** the 1787 settlements identified in our dataset,98.3%are with good access(ettlements are located in the poor access class(31–60 min),while two settlements are within the very poor access class(>60 min).Geographic access is not the main limiting factor to health care access in the ***,computation of access to health care should take into consideration other dimensions of accessibility,to create a robust measure which will support effective and efficient health care planning and delivery.

This paper gives a short overview of the German energiewende, i.e. the transition of a large and mostly thermal electricity system towards electricity generation from renewable energy source. It discusses both, the motivation of the transitions as future goals and current status. Furthermore, it gives an in-depth view into the changes in economic costs for society as well as electricity price effects, especially for average private households and industrial consumers. It also discusses the benefits of the promotion of renewable energies in Germany.

Automated ex-situ detection of pitting corrosion and its effect on the mechanical integrity of rare earth magnesium alloy-We43

This study develops a three-dimensional automated detection framework(PitScan)that systematically evaluates the severity and phenomenology of pitting *** framework uses a python-based algorithm to analyse microcomputer-tomography scans(μCT)of cylindrical specimens undergoing *** approach systematically identifies several surface-based corrosion features,enabling full spatial characterisation of pitting parameters,including pit density,pit size,pit depth as well as pitting factor according to ASTM ***,it is used to evaluate pitting formation in tensile specimens of a Rare earth Magnesium alloy undergoing corrosion,and relationships between key pitting parameters and mechanical performance are *** demonstrated that several of the parameters described in ASTM G46-94,including pit number,pit density and pitting factor,showed little correlation to mechanical ***,this study did identify that other parameters showed strong correlations with the ultimate tensile strength and these tended to be directly linked to the reduction of the cross-sectional area of the ***,our results indicate,that parameters directly linked to the loss of the cross-sectional area(*** material width),are parameters that are most suited to provide an indication of a specimen’s mechanical *** automated detection framework developed in this study has the potential to provide a basis to standardise measurements of pitting corrosion across a range of metals and future prediction of mechanical strength over degradation time.

Distribution and relationship between antimicrobial resistance genes and heavy metals in surface sediments of Taihu Lake,China

Heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and other wastes released into the environment can significantly influence environmental antibiotic resistance. We investigated the occurrence of 22 antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs) and 10 heavy metal concentrations, and the relationship between ARGs and heavy metals in surface sediment from seven sites of Lake Taihu. The results showed significant correlations(p etween sediment ARG levels,especially for tetracycline and sulfonamides(e.g., tet(A), tet(D), tet(e), tet(O), sul1, sul2 and int-1) and specific heavy metals(Fe, Mn, Cr, Cu, Zn, among others) in the Lake. In the surface sediments, heavy metals showed an interaction with resistance genes, but the strength of interaction was diminished with increasing depth. For most of the heavy metals, the concentration of elements in the top sediments was higher than that in other *** resistance genes(tet(A), tet(B), tet(D), tet(e) and tet(O), β-lactam resistance genes(SHV, TeM, CTX, OXA and OXY) and sulfonamide resistance genes(sulA, sul1, sul2, sul3 and int-1) were detected. They showed a trend which inferred a statistically significant increase followed by decreases in the relative abundance of these ARGs(normalized to 16 S rRNA genes) with increasing depth. This study revealed that tet(A), tet(O), TeM, OXY, int-1, sul1 and sul3 were widespread in surface sediments with high abundance, indicating that these genes deserve more attention in future work.

Predicting localised corrosion and mechanical performance of a PeO surface modified rare earth magnesium alloy for implant use through in-silico modelling

In this study,the influence of a plasma electrolytic oxidation(PeO)surface treatment on a medical-grade We43-based magnesium alloy is examined through an experimental and computational framework that considers the effects of localised corrosion features and mechanical properties throughout the corrosion ***,a comprehensive in-vitro immersion study was performed on We43-based tensile specimens with and without PeO surface modification,which included fully automated spatial reconstruction of the phenomenological features of corrosion through micro-CT scanning,followed by uniaxial tensile *** the experimental data of both unmodified and PeO-modified groups were used to calibrate parameters of a finite element-based surface corrosion ***-vitro,it was found that the We43-PeO modified group had a significantly lower corrosion rate and maintained significantly higher mechanical properties than the *** corrosion rates were~50%lower in the We43-PeO modified specimens,the local geometric features of corroding surfaces remained similar to the unmodified We43 group,however evolving after almost the double amount of *** were also able to quantitatively demonstrate that the PeO surface treatment on magnesium continued to protect samples from corrosion throughout the entire period tested,and not just in the early stages of *** the results from the testing framework,the model parameters of the surface-based corrosion model were identified for both *** enabled,for the first time,in-silico prediction of the physical features of corrosion and the mechanical performance of both unmodified and PeO modified magnesium *** simulation framework can enable future in-silico design and optimisation of bioabsorbable magnesium devices for load-bearing medical applications.

Structural and chemical mechanisms governing stability of inorganic Janus nanotubes

One-dimensional inorganic nanotubes hold promise for technological applications due to their distinct physical/chemical properties,but so far advancements have been hampered by difficulties in producing single-wall nanotubes with a well-defined *** this work we investigate,based on Density Functional Theory(DFT),the formation mechanism of 135 different inorganic nanotubes formed by the intrinsic self-rolling driving force found in asymmetric 2D Janus *** show that for isovalent Janus sheets,the lattice mismatch between inner and outer atomic layers is the driving force behind the nanotube formation,while in the non-isovalent case it is governed by the difference in chemical bond strength of the inner and outer layer leading to steric *** our pool of candidate structures we have identified more than 100 tubes with a preferred radius below 35Å,which we hypothesize can display distinctive properties compared to their parent 2D *** descriptors have been identified to accelerate the discovery of small-radius tubes and a Bayesian regression approach has been implemented to assess the uncertainty in our predictions on the radius.

The global impact of greenhouse gas emissions requires concerted efforts to reduce emissions and energy use,and to increase carbon capture and *** the circular economy in CO_(2)sequestration systems optimises resource use and reduces the emissions burden throughout the supply *** capture from anaerobic digestion,composting and fermentation(particularly ethanol)processes offers great opportunities for climate change *** waste/by-products generated from these processes can limit the need to source nutrients from outside the system and increase the potential for circular *** integration of microalgae cultivation with each of anaerobic digestion,composting and ethanol fermentation processes provides a new model for climate change mitigation of biogenic CO_(2)and circular *** this model is limited by high energy consumption and nutrient demand,seasonal variability,operational efficiency and end-user requirements,further research and policy support will go a long way in realising the associated benefits,including in CO_(2)fixation,nutrient recovery,waste remediation and as an alternative source of animal feed.

Over the last two decades,we have seen two revolutions in y-ray astronomy-at GeV and TeV *** detection of thousands of GeV and hundreds of TeV y-ray emitters representing more than ten galactic and extragalactic source populations indicates that cosmic ray(CR)factories are distributed throughout the Universe in a wide diversity of forms and scales(see,e.g.,ref.[1]and references therein).These days,we are witnessing a new revolution,this time in the PeV ***,the LHAASO Collaboration[2]reported detection of a dozen ultra-high-energy(UHe;e≥0.1 PeV)y-ray sources,thus opening a new window in the electromagnetic *** y-rays,produced in interactions of charged particles(protons and electrons)with an order of magnitude higher energies,serve as direct messengers of CR PeV atrons.

Several authors have commented on the anatomical changes following radical prostatectomy(RP)for prostate cancer and their characteristic radiological appearances.1,2 Most of these relate to periurethral fibrosis and its clinical significance in patients with postprostatectomy sphincter weakness incontinence.3,4 On magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),this postsurgical fibrosis appears as a focus of low-signal intensity in the periurethral tissues at and around the level of the vesicourethral anastomosis(VUA)which is appreciable on both T1-and T2-weighted images.
