scCloudMine is a cloud-based application for visualization,comparison,and exploration of single-cell transcriptome data.It does not require an on-site,high-power computing server,installation,or associated expertise and expense.Users upload their own or publicly available scRNA-seq datasets after preprocessing for visualization using a web browser.The data can be viewed in two color modes—Cluster,representing cell identity,and Values,showing levels of expression—and data can be queried using keywords or gene identification number(s).Using the app to compare studies,we determined that some genes frequently used as cell-type markers are in fact study specific.The apparent cell-specific expression of PHO1;H3 differed between GFP-tagging and scRNA-seq studies.Some phosphate transporter genes were induced by protoplasting,but they retained cell specificity,suggesting that cell-specific responses to stress(i.e.,protoplasting)can occur.Examination of the cell specificity of hormone response genes revealed that 132 hormone-responsive genes display restricted expression and that the jasmonate response gene TIFY8 is expressed in endodermal cells,in contrast to previous reports.It also appears that JAZ repressors have cell-type-specific functions.These features identified using scCloudMine highlight the need for resources to enable biological researchers to compare their datasets of interest under a variety of parameters.scCloudMine enables researchers to form new hypotheses and perform comparative studies and allows for the easy re-use of data from this emerging technology by a wide variety of users who may not have access or funding for high-performance on-site computing and support.

In recent years, a family of numerical algorithms to solve problems in real algebraic and semialgebraic geometry has been slowly growing. Unlike their counterparts in symbolic computation they are numerically stable. But their complexity analysis, based on the condition of the data, is radically different from the usual complexity analysis in symbolic computation as these numerical algorithms may run forever on a thin set of ill-posed inputs.

Influence of wire spacing and plate spacing on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles: An approach involving electrostatic shielding and diffusion charging

Electrostatic precipitation is a process widely used as gas cleaning device,to removal particles from gas flows.However,in a conventional and well-sized precipitator,the collection efficiency decreases for ultrafine particles,making it difficult to employ this equipment for controlling nanoparticle pollution.This paper investigates the influence of plate spacing(4 and 6.5 cm)and wire spacing(4,6,and 12 cm)on the electric current and nanoparticle collection efficiency,considering the effect of diffusion charging and electrostatic shielding.Two laboratory-scale dry wire-plate electrostatic precipitators with different plate spacings were tested for the collection of nanoparticles(6.15–241.4 nm)at three air velocities(1.9,2.9,and 3.9 cm/s).The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the equipment in removing nanoparticles(99.9%)under the highest electric fields.Higher values of the wire spacing led to increases in the current and the collection efficiency.This was associated with reduced electrostatic shielding,which is more evident in smaller ducts with a higher density of field lines.It is expected that the findings should improve knowledge on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles,enabling optimization of collection efficiency by considering the effects of geometric parameters.

Axonal regeneration after injuries to the nervous system has been extensively studied due to its implication in motor and sensory functional recovery. Distinct types of regeneration has been identified, such as canonical axonal regeneration, defined as the growth of axons from the transected axonal stump to reinnervate the original target, or regenerative sprouting, in which the growth occurs from a region of the damaged axon either close or far from the injury site(Tuszynski and Steward, 2012).

Automation in detection of recirculation in a booster fan ventilation network

Recirculation is prohibited in many coal mining countries because of the fear that the re-use of return air would allow the build-up of air contaminants at the workings. The incorrect design and location of a booster fan in any ventilation network can create unsafe condition due to recirculation. The current approach to investigating recirculation using simulation software requires manual effort which becomes tedious in a complex and a large network. An algorithm-based C++ program was designed to detect the recirculation in a booster fan ventilation networks. This program needed an input file prepared from output file generated by any ventilation simulator. This program created an output file for recirculation. This program demonstrated the strong capability to detect the recirculation in a sample network and a coal mine ventilation network. The outcomes of this program were documented in this paper.

A prototype for on-site generation of chlorinated disinfectant for use in rural aqueducts

Sodium hypochlorite has significant potential as a sanitation solution in hard-to-reach areas.Few studies have investigated the optimal electrolysis parameters for its production with volumes greater than 1o L.This study evaluated sodium hypochlorite production through electrolysis in a 22-L prototype and identified the optimal operating parameters.Tests were performed using graphite electrodes with areas of 68.4 cm²at the laboratory scale and 1865.0 cm?at the prototype scale.A design for experiments with different operating times,chloride concentrations,and electric current intensities was developed.The optimal operating time,sodium chloride concentration,and current intensity at the laboratory scale were 120 min,150 g of chloride per liter,and 3 A,respectively,leading to the production of 5.02 g/L of the disinfectant with an energy efficiency of 12.21 mg of Cl2 per kilojoule.At the prototype scale,the maximum sodium hypochlorite concentration of 3.99 g of chloride per liter was achieved with an operating time of 120 min,a sodium chloride concentration of 100 g of chloride per liter,and a current intensity of 70 A,reaching an energy efficiency of 42.56 mg of Cl2 per kilojoule.In addition,this study evaluated the influences of the chloride concentration,current intensity,and operating time on the production of sodium hypochlorite at the two scales,and formulated the equations showing the trends of sodium hypochlorite production and energy efficiency in the electrochemical systems.The 22-L prototype model for production of this oxidizing substance is promising for disinfection of large volumes of water in areas that are difficult to access.
