This study investigated the use of leftover biomass(rice husks)as the raw material for the biotechnological production of platform chemicals and *** the biorefinery concept,different acid hydrolysates were studied and resulted into a wide range of treatment *** were applied throughout the procedures in multivariate experimental *** using the best hydrolytic conditions of 6.0%H3PO4,135oC(45 MPa)and reaction time of 62 min,21.0 g/L sugar hydrolysates were produced;by using the best hydrolytic condition of 4.5%HNO3,135oC/35 min,16.1 g/L sugar hydrolysates were produced;and with the hydrolysates use of 1.5%H2SO4 and 1.5%HCl,135oC/62 min,18.2 and 17.8 g/L sugar hydrolysates were produced,*** highest productivity,in terms of fermentable sugars,reached 68%of integral cellulose/hemicellulose fraction and surpassed those found in the literature,with regard to the processing of rice husks,by considering just one step *** hydrolysate,detoxified with active carbon,was used to prove this proposal viability,resulting in a fermentation substrate for ***(ATCC10020)and ***(LMG196)strains(natural producers of bioproducts),which certified the feasibility of the *** production of fermentable sugars from leftover biomass should encourage a search for new bioconversion routes,which can result in economic and environmental benefits and a spread of knowledge.

Invasive Fungal Infections in People Living with HIv/AIDS

The increased incidence of invasive and opportunistic mycoses is probably related to the growth of the immunocompromised population, such as people living with HIv. This study is a literature review that aims to analyze the frequency of invasive fungal infections in people living with HIv. In most studies evaluated, Pneumocystis pneumonia was the most frequent invasive fungal infection among people living with HIv, and cryptococcosis was the second most frequent. Invasive fungal infections are associated with greater morbidity and mortality in people living with HIv. The most important highlighted information is that the lack of epidemiological data on fungal infections in the studied populations was reported by most studies. Therefore, there is a need for further studies to assess the frequency of invasive fungal infection in people living with HIv, which may serve as subsidies for the implementation of strategies for the prevention and management, with a consequent increase in the quality of life and reduction of morbidity/mortality in this population.

With the increasing development of Brazil in recent years, major engineering construction works have been designed and built, particularly those involving large volumes of mass concrete, such as in the case of dams. Mass concrete, due to its large size and volume, presents a considerable temperature rise caused by cement grain hydration. This temperature rise can be sufficient to cause concrete crack and/or cracking, which may lead to serious problems. In this paper, we sought to study heat generation and temperature field in mass concrete through ANSYS software, which uses finite element method to analyze the problem. This program allows temperatures to be checked for different concrete ages. With that, it is possible to evaluate the temperatures obtained and the factors influencing the results in a short period of time at a low cost. With the help of the software, it is possible to check the temperatures for different concrete properties by analyzing them on different concreting days. Therefore, it was possible to establish that the properties of the concrete directly influence the temperature evolution phenomenon.

This article presents a study on the impact of video frame losses on the quality perceived by users. video compression standards, such as MPEG, use a sequence of frames called Group of Pictures (GOP), which is a video compression method which a frame is expressed in terms of one or more neighboring frames. This dependence between frames impacts directly in the quality because a loss of a reference frame prevents the decoding of other frames in GOP, thereby reducing the user-perceived quality. The assessment of quality in this article is estimated by Peak Signal Noise ratio (PSNr), which compares the original and the received images. Computer simulations were used to show that the degradation on the quality may vary for different patterns of GOPs and type of lost frames.

Food by-products containing bioactive substances, such as phenolic compounds, have garnered attention due to the possibility to increase the value of what would otherwise be considered residue. The present work sought to evaluate the extraction of phenolic compounds and their bioaccessibility from pinhão “comum” (Araucaria angustifolia var. angustifolia) and pinhão “macaco” (Araucaria angustifolia var. indehiscens) cooking water extracts during in vitro simulated gastrointestinal conditions. Our findings indicate that changes occurred depending on the type of extract and the gastrointestinal step. Although both of the evaluated pinhão extracts displayed bioaccessible phenolic compounds, the gradual bioaccessibility decrease of pinhão “macaco” extract during in vitro simulated gastrointestinal condition steps, characterizes this extract as the one with the best functional property. The functional property is related to antioxidant properties which are able to generate protective effects against various diseases.

Quality of Seeds of Upland rice Lines Adapted to the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil

In the final stages of a plant breeding program, a crucial step is the multiplication of seeds in production fields. Besides a solid planning, the seeds multiplication needs a special attention to guarantee seeds with high quality, genetic integrity, high germination and vigor to the farmer. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physiologic quality, enzymatic expression and respiratory activity of seeds of 20 elite upland rice lines adapted to the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, from the upland rice breeding program from three Brazilians research institutions. The quality parameters evaluated were root protrusion, number of normal seedlings in the germination test, number of normal seedlings in the germination first count, initial stand from emergence test, speed of emergence index, seedlings shoot and root length, percentage of O2 and CO2 from respiratory activity and the expression pattern of the enzymes alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and malate dehydrogenase (MDH). The seeds quality varied among lines, allowing the selection of lines with best performance. The respiratory activity was lower in seeds of lines with high quality. The enzyme ADH was an excellent marker to infer about the quality of seeds, and the variation in the expression of MDH did not depend on the quality of rice seeds. The lines BrS Esmeralda, CMG1896 and CMG1509 showed high physiologic quality in their seeds, and therefore, they should receive higher attention in rice breeding programs.

Phenotypic and Enzymatic Analyses of Upland rice Lines Seeds under No-Tillage

Over 40% of the agricultural area in Brazil corresponds to no-tillage farming. Although it is evident the importance of obtaining upland rice cultivars adapted to this cropping system, researches in this sense are still incipient and breeders do not have cultivars available to recommend with enough security. The aim of this study was to evaluate phenotypic characters favorable to the no-tillage system in order to establish the basis for upland rice breeding programs interested in this cropping system. The seeds of twenty elite inbred lines from the Upland rice Breeding Program from the Brazilian research institutions UFLA, EMBrAPA and EPAMIG were evaluated at the Central Seeds Lab from the Agriculture department of UFLA following a randomized block design with four replicates. The characters evaluated were seedlings emergence (SE), green matter yield (GM), dry matter yield (DM), photosynthetic activity (PA), and superoxide dismutase activity (SOD). The quality parameters evaluated were obtained by a germination test (GT), germination first count (GFC), emergence test (E), initial stand (IS), and alpha-amylase expression. The lines CMG 2074, CMG 1967, CMG 2017, BrSMG Caravera and CMG 2097 showed higher SOD content in the enzymatic analyses, and consequently higher tolerance to abiotic stresses that could be caused by no-tillage. Considering the evaluation of agronomic traits, the line CMG 1967 showed the best performance in no-tillage soil and, therefore, should receive higher attention in Upland rice Breeding Programs.
