Revisiting mycorrhizal dogmas:Are mycorrhizas really functioning as they are widely believed to do?

Since the discovery of mycorrhizas,dogmas have been developed regarding their function,ecology,and dis*** explore if these dogmas are valid,and if there are research biases toward regions inhabited by most researchers and away from regions inhabited by most plant *** found,first,that the mycorrhizal status is known in less than 1%of plant species,with few having proven mycorrhizal benefits for growth and ***,the mycorrhizal status of a plant species varies within families,even ***,mycorrhizas are important for phosphorus acquisition only within a narrow phosphorus ***,mycorrhizal plants are not uniform in their response to environment;taxonomy,phylogeny and continental history strongly drive mycorrhizal *** example,the center of diversification of ericaceae and Orchidaceae is in the neotropics,rather than,as recently claimed,in cold and high-latitude ***standing the importance of mycorrhizas at the family-wide and biome-wide level is therefore conflicted by a research bias toward research-intensive regions outside the phylogenetic hotspots of *** current precepts on mycorrhizas provide important starting points for hypotheses to robustly test when and where mycorrhizas play a role in determining ecological *** time has come to move forward and revisit past assumptions and update the dogmas,rather than assume functional significance in terms of nutritional benefits from studies on extraneous regions and *** conclude that non-nutritional benefits deserve far greater attention.

In this editorial,we reviewed the article by Fadlallah et al that was recently published in the World Journal of Clinical *** article provided a comprehensive and in-depth view of the management and treatment of colorectal cancer(CRC),one of the leading causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality *** article analyzed the therapeutic modalities and their sequencing,focusing on total neoadjuvant therapy for locally advanced rectal *** highlighted the role of immunotherapy in tumors with high microsatellite instability or deficient mismatch repair,addressing recent advances that have improved prognosis and therapeutic response in localized and metastatic *** in surgical techniques,advanced radiotherapy,and systemic agents targeting specific mutational profiles are also discussed,reflecting on how they revolutionized clinical *** tumor DNA has emerged as a promising tool for detecting minimal residual disease,prognosis,and therapeutic monitoring,solidifying its role in precision *** review emphasized the importance of technological and therapeutic advancements in improving clinical outcomes and personalizing CRC treatment.

Fungi are highly important biotic components of terrestrial ecosystems,but we still have a very limited understanding about their diversity and *** data article releases a global soil fungal dataset of the Global Soil Mycobiome consortium(GSMc)to boost further research in fungal diversity,biogeography and *** dataset comprises 722,682 fungal operational taxonomic units(OTUs)derived from PacBio sequencing of full-length ITS and 18S-V9 variable regions from 3200 plots in 108 countries on all *** plots are supplied with geographical and edaphic *** OTUs are taxonomically and functionally assigned to guilds and other functional *** entire dataset has been corrected by excluding chimeras,index-switch artefacts and potential *** dataset is more inclusive in terms of geographical breadth and phylogenetic diversity of fungi than previously published *** GSMc dataset is available over the PlutoF repository.

Axonal regeneration after injuries to the nervous system has been extensively studied due to its implication in motor and sensory functional recovery. Distinct types of regeneration has been identified, such as canonical axonal regeneration, defined as the growth of axons from the transected axonal stump to reinnervate the original target, or regenerative sprouting, in which the growth occurs from a region of the damaged axon either close or far from the injury site(Tuszynski and Steward, 2012).

Influence of wire spacing and plate spacing on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles: An approach involving electrostatic shielding and diffusion charging

electrostatic precipitation is a process widely used as gas cleaning device,to removal particles from gas ***,in a conventional and well-sized precipitator,the collection efficiency decreases for ultrafine particles,making it difficult to employ this equipment for controlling nanoparticle *** paper investigates the influence of plate spacing(4 and 6.5 cm)and wire spacing(4,6,and 12 cm)on the electric current and nanoparticle collection efficiency,considering the effect of diffusion charging and electrostatic *** laboratory-scale dry wire-plate electrostatic precipitators with different plate spacings were tested for the collection of nanoparticles(6.15–241.4 nm)at three air velocities(1.9,2.9,and 3.9 cm/s).The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the equipment in removing nanoparticles(99.9%)under the highest electric *** values of the wire spacing led to increases in the current and the collection *** was associated with reduced electrostatic shielding,which is more evident in smaller ducts with a higher density of field *** is expected that the findings should improve knowledge on electrostatic precipitation of nanoparticles,enabling optimization of collection efficiency by considering the effects of geometric parameters.

The effect of ethanol fuel dilution on oil performance and MoDTC tribofilms formation and composition

ethanol has emerged as a promising alternative to fossil fuels,but its use can lead to significant dilution in lubricants,particularly during cold start or heavy *** dilution can affect the performance of additives,including friction modifiers like molybdenum dithiocarbamate(MoDTC),which are designed to reduce friction under extreme contact *** research suggests that ethanol may impact the performance of MoDTC,prompting this study’s goal to investigate the effects of ethanol on MoDTC tribofilms and their friction response under boundary lubrication ***,reciprocating tribological tests were performed with fully formulated lubricants containing MoDTC with varying ethanol *** results indicate that a critical ethanol dilution level inhibits friction reduction by MoDTC activation,resulting in friction coefficients(COFs)similar to the base *** tested with simple mixtures of polyalphaolefin(PAO)+MoDTC showed increased COFs with added *** of tested surfaces using Raman spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),and X-ray absorption spectroscopy near the edge structure(XANeS)revealed the presence of sulfates,MoO_(3),MoS_(2),and MoS_(x)O_(y)compounds in the tribofilms formed on the surfaces,with and without ethanol diluted in the ***,the addition of ethanol increased the sulfates and MoO_(3)content of the tribofilms at the expense of friction-reducing compounds such as MoS_(2)and MoS_(x)O_(y).These findings suggest that ethanol dilution in lubricants containing MoDTC creates an oxygen-rich interfacial medium that favors the formation of compounds with insufficient friction-reducing capabilities.

Interspecific interactions are key drivers of individual and population-level fitness in a wide range of ***,in marine ecosystems,it is relatively unknown which biotic and abiotic factors impact behavioral interactions between competing *** assessed the impact of weather,marine productivity,and population structure on the behavioral agonistic interactions between South American fur seals(SAFSs),Arctocephalus australis,and South American sea lions(SASLs),Otaria byronia,in a breeding colony of *** hypothesized that agonistic interactions between SAFSs and SASLs respond to biotic and abiotic factors such as SAFS population structure,marine productivity,and *** found that SASL and SAFS interactions almost always resulted in negative impacts on the social structure or reproductive success of the SAFS *** adult males initiated stampedes of SAFS and/or abducted and predated SAFS *** SAFS males abundance and severe weather events were negatively correlated with agonistic interactions between ***,proxies for lower marine productivity such as higher sea surface temperature and lower catches of demerso-pelagic fish were the most important predictors of more frequent agonistic interactions between SAFS and *** the current scenario of decline in marine biomass due to global climate change and overfishing,agonistic interactions between competing marine predators could increase and exacerbate the negative impacts of environmental change in these species.

Color polymorphisms have been traditionally attributed to apostatic *** perception of color depends on the visual system of the *** models predict that differently perceived degrees of conspicuousness by two predator and prey species may cause the evolution of polymorphisms in the presence of anti-apostatic and apostatic *** spider Gasteracantha cancriformis(Araneidae)possesses several conspicuous color *** orb-web spiders,the prey attraction hypothesis states that conspicuous colors are prey lures that increase spider foraging success via flower ***,polymorphism could be maintained if each morph attracted a different prey species(multiple prey hypothesis)and each spider mimicked a different flower color(flower mimicry hypothesis).Conspicuous colors could be a warning signal to predators because of the spider's hard abdomen and *** predators could perceive morphs differently and exert different degrees of selective pressures(multiple predator hypothesis).We explored these 3 hypotheses using reflectance data and color vision modeling to estimate the chromatic and achromatic contrast of *** morphs as perceived by several potential prey and predator *** results revealed that individual taxa perceive the conspicuousness of morphs ***,the multiple prey hypothesis and,in part,the multiple predator hypothesis may explain the evolution of color polymorphism in ***,even in the presence of anti-apostatic *** flower mimicry hypothesis received support by color metrics,but not by color vision *** parameters not evaluated by color vision models could also affect the perception of morphs and influence morph survival and polymorphism stability.

Production Cross-Section estimates for Strongly-Interacting electroweak-Symmetry Breaking Sector Resonances at Particle Colliders

We are exploring a generic strongly-interacting electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector(eWSBS) with the low-energy effective field theory for the four experimentally known particles(W_L~±,Z_l,h) and its dispersion-relation based unitary *** this contribution we provide simple estimates for the production cross-section of pairs of the eWSBS bosons and their resonances at proton-proton colliders as well as in a future e^-e^+(or potentially aμ^-μ^+) collider with a typical few-TeV *** examine the simplest production mechanisms,tree-level production through a W(dominant when quantum numbers allow) and the simple effective boson approximation(in which the electroweak bosons are considered as collinear partons of the colliding fermions).We exemplify with custodial isovector and isotensor resonances at 2 TeV,the energy currently being discussed because of a slight excess in the ATLAS 2-jet *** find it hard,though not unthinkable,to ascribe this excess to one of these W_lW_l rescattering *** isovector resonance could be produced at a rate smaller than,but close to earlier CMS exclusion bounds,depending on the parameters of the effective *** ZZ excess is then problematic and requires additional physics(such as an additional scalar resonance).The isotensor one(that would describe all charge combinations) has smaller cross-section.
