Gd_(0.67)Ca_(0.33)MnO_3(GCMO)thin films grown by laser ablation on SrTiO_3(100)(STO)substrates was studied. Films are highly crystallized, very well epitaxial and single-phased. The ordering magnetic temperature(T_c)of the films is much higher than the value of bulk samples of similar composition. It is found that the GCMO film exhibits a reversal of its magnetization at low temperature when cooled under a magnetic field. The negative magnetization is a consequence of the rapid increase(～1/T)with decreasing temperature of the magnetization of a sublattice aligned antiparallel to the local field, relative to the magnetic contribution of a second sublattice which is aligned parallel to the applied field.

The concept of natural connectivity is reported as a robustness measure of complex networks. The natural connectivity has a clear physical meaning and a simple mathematical formulation. It is shown that the natural connectivity can be derived mathematically from the graph spectrum as an average eigenvalue and that it changes strictly monotonically with the addition or deletion of edges. By comparing the natural connectivity with other typical robustness measures within a scenario of edge elimination, it is demonstrated that the naturM connectivity has an acute discrimination which agrees with our intuition.

Low bone mineral density and the increased risk of fracture in gastrointestinal diseases have a multifactorial pathogenesis. Inflammatory bowel disease （IBD） has been associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis and osteopenia and epidemiologic studies have reported an increased prevalence of low bone mass in patients with IBD. Certainly, genetics play an important role, along with other factors such as systemic inflammation, malnutrition, hypogonadism, glucocorticoid therapy in IBD and other lifestyle factors. At a molecular level the proinflammatory cytokines that contribute to the intestinal immune response in IBD are known to enhance bone resorption. There are genes influencing osteoblast function and it is likely that LRp5 may be involved in the skeletal development. Also the identification of vitamin D receptors （VDRs） and some of its polymorphisms have led to consider the possible relationships between them and some autoimmune diseases and may be involved in the pathogenesis through the exertion of its immunomodulatory effects during inflammation. Trying to explain the physiopathology we have found that there is increasing evidence for the integration between systemic inflammation and bone loss likely mediated via receptor for activated nuclear factor kappa-B （RANK）, RANK-ligand, and osteoprotegerin, proteins that can affect both osteoclastogenesis and T-cell activation. Although glucocorticoids can reduce mucosal and systemic inflammation, they have intrinsic qualities that negatively impact on bone mass. It is still controversial if all IBD patients should be screened, especially in patients with preexisting risk factors for bone disease. Available methods to measure BMD include single energy x-ray absorptiometry, DXA, quantitative computed tomography （QCT）, radiographic absorptiometry, and *** is the establish method to determine BMD, and routinely is measured in the hip and the lumbar spine. Secondary outcome measures included the geographic distribution of patient-sharing, regional and age-related differences in accessing services, and type and frequency of outpatient ***95055 patients accessed hospital services on 1760156 occasions over a 2-year follow-up period. AIM: To evaluate the factors that influence outcome of both non-invasive and invasive treatment of polycystic liver disease. METHODS: Analysis of clinical files of patients with complete follow-up from July 1986 to June 2006. RESULTS: Forty-one patients (male, 7; female, 34), 47.8 ± 11.9 years age, and 5.7 ± 6.7 years follow-up, were studied. Alkaline phosphatase (Ap) elevation (15% of patients) was associated with the requirement of invasive treatment (IT, p = 0.005). IT rate was higher in symptomatic than non-symptomatic patients (65.4% vs 14.3%, p = 0.002), and in women taking hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) (p = 0.001). Cysts complications (CC) were more frequent (22%) in the symptomatic patients group (p = 0.023). patients with body mass index (BMI) > 25 (59%) had a trend to complications after IT (p = 0.075). Abdominal pain was the most common symptom (56%) and indication for IT (78%). Nineteen patients (46%) required a first IT: 12 open fenestration (OF), 4 laparoscopic fenestration (LF) and 3 fenestration with hepatic resection (FHR). Three required a second IT, and one required a third procedure. Complications due to first IT were found in 32% (OF 16.7%, LF 25%, FHR 66.7%), and in thesecond IT in 66.7% (OF 100%). Follow-up mortality rate was 0. CONCLUSION: presence of symptoms, elevated Ap, and CC are associated with IT requirement. HRT is associated with presence of symptoms and IT requirement. patients with BMI > 25 have a trend be susceptible to IT complications. The proportions of complications are higher in FHR and second IT groups. RS is more frequent after OF.

Objective: To determine associated factors to metabolic syndrome in the populations that partici-pated in the Mexico hospital health fair in February 2007. Materials and Methods: A retrospective, descriptive transverse and analytic study of the population interviewed during the Health Fair held from February 19 to 22. A descriptive analysis was done as well as a single-variable and mul-tivariate analysis of the main variables. Results: San Jose province reported a higher percentage of cases with 40.7%, followed by Heredia with 26.0% and Alajuela with 24.9%. In the case of Lemon, the percentage was 0.4% only. Most of the interviewed ones are Costa Ricans, representing 94.0%. The female predominance was notorious with 72.6%. The single-variable and multivariate analysis presented an association among blood pressure, glucose, besides of the body mass index related to the metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: The blood pressure, the glucose, and the body mass index are to be considered as associated factors to metabolic syndrome.

The objective of this study was to describe the trend of reproductive performance of primiparous and multiparous cows that grazed rice crop residues located in a Dry Tropical Forest of Colombia, taking into account the rainfall pattern of the place. In this study, 89 primiparous and 309 multiparous Cebu cattle records were analyzed. Mean, mean standard deviation for age at first calving and open days of primipar-ous Cebu cattle were 41.05± 1.85 months and 269.7±36.25 days respectively. Confidence intervals (95%) for both reproductive parameters were 36.8-45.3 months and 202.7-336.6 days respectively. For multiparous Cebu cattle, the mean and mean standard deviation for open days and calving interval were 245.6±36.8 days and 17.5±0.9 months respectively. Confidence intervals 207.1-366.9 days and 13.9-20.7 months respectively. The mean rainfall since 1999 until 2012 was1202 mmper year. The reproduc-tive trend of the primiparous cattle showed an increasing behavior of age at first calving since 1999 until 2012, that can possibly be explained due to the decreasing behavior of the rainfall throughout the years, that can affect the nutritional value and offer of the grass that can grow in the borders of the crop, such as Guinea and Star grass, and eventually affect the body condition and weight necessary to be ready for the first estrous. An inverse behavior of open days occurred, showing a decreased trend along the last years of research. This fact could have happened due to the intensive use of the enriched rice straw with urea and molasses lately. Regarding to the reproductive trend of the multiparous cattle, there is no an evident pat-tern of it. Factors such as rainfall, temperature, nutrition and management should have affected it. Further research on this topic is needed.

The proteins Inscuteable and Staufen are key components during asymmetric cell division of neuroblasts for the development of Drosophila melanogaster. Expression and purification of both proteins has been a difficult task for structure-function studies. Based on codon optimization for protein expression in Escherichia coli, we have been able to produce, in soluble form, the C-terminal domains of Inscuteable and Staufen as chimeras with N-terminal maltose binding protein tag that contains a rigid linker between them for feasible crystallization. In addition, using an optimized synthetic gene, corresponding to the amino acid region 250 - 623 of Inscuteable fused to glutathione-S-transferase, low-scale expression experiments showed production of soluble protein. Finally, eukaryotic expression of Inscuteable in the methylothropic yeast pichia pastoris failed to produce the Drosophila protein at detectable amounts, reinforcing the fact that E. coli still was the microorganism of choice for high-yield protein expression.
