Impact of socioeconomic and health-related factors on consumption of homeopathic and natural remedies in Spain in 2006, 2011 and 2017

Objective: Complementary and alternative medicine use and type of use may be influenced by sociodemographic and economic determinants through which we could identify characteristics of patients with greater trend to use it. This paper aims to describe the changes in the consumption of homeopathic and natural remedies in Spain for three time points in order to discern changes in rate of consumption, associated factors and whether their use has been affected by a period of economic ***: This study utilized 2006, 2011 and 2017 cross-sectional data from the Spanish National Health Survey, a nationally representative survey of the population aged more than 15 years old and resident in Spain. Independent bivariate and multivariate descriptive analyses for each of the 3 years studied were ***: The rate of consumption of both homeopathic and natural remedies has decreased over the periods studied. In spite of this decrease, the consumer profile appears to remain stable over the three periods. The sociodemographic factors associated with their consumption were being female, being 30–64 years old, being separated/divorced, having higher education qualifications, being employed and belonging to a higher social class. psychiatric morbidity, chronic health problems such as pain, mental health problems or malignant tumors, and absence of major cardiovascular events were the clinical factors ***: It can be concluded that beyond the economic situation, the use of homeopathic and natural remedies obeys to the needs of the patients related to their state of health and the response they receive from the health system. It may be that women have different needs and expectations of the healthcare system and, given this breach of expectations, seek remedy to alleviate their needs outside the system and conventional medicine.

A branching heuristic for SAT solvers based on complete implication graphs

The performance of modern conflict-driven clause learning(CDCL) SAT solvers strongly depends on branching heuristics. State-of-the-art branching heuristics, such as variable state independent decaying sum(VSIDS) and learning rate branching(LRB), are computed and maintained by aggregating the occurrences of the variables in conflicts. However, these heuristics are not sufficiently accurate at the beginning of the search because they are based on very few conflicts. We propose the distance branching heuristic, which,given a conflict, constructs a complete implication graph and increments the score of a variable considering the longest distance between the variable and the conflict rather than the simple presence of the variable in the graph. We implemented the proposed distance branching heuristic in Maple LCM and Glucose-3.0, two of the best CDCL SAT solvers, and used the resulting solvers to solve instances from the application and crafted tracks of the 2014 and 2016 SAT competitions and the main track of the 2017 SAT competition. The empirical results demonstrate that using the proposed distance branching heuristic in the initialization phase of Maple LCM and Glucose-3.0 solvers improves performance. The Maple LCM solver with the proposed distance branching heuristic in the initialization phase won the main track of the 2017 SAT competition.

Artificial neural network to guide intracorneal ring segments implantation for keratoconus treatment:a pilot study

p-Cresol mineralization and bacterial population dynamics in a nitrifying sequential batch reactor

The ability of a nitrifying sludge to oxidize p-cresol was evaluated in a sequential batch reactor （SBR）. p-Cresol was first transformed to p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and p-hydroxybenzoate, which were later mineralized. The specific rates of p-cresol consumption increased throughout the cycles. The bacterial population dynamics were monitored by using denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis 0DGGE） and sequencing of DGGE fragments. The ability of the sludge to consume p-cresol and intermediates might be related to the presence of species such as Variouorax paradoxus and Thauera mechernichensis, p-Cresol （25 to 200 mg C/L） did not affect the nitrifying SBR performance （ammonium consumption efficiency and nitrate production yield were close to 100% and 1, respectively）. This may be related to the high stability observed in the nitrifying communities. It was shown that a nitrifying SBR may be a good alternative to eliminate simultaneously ammonium and p-cresol, maintaining stable the respiratory process as the bacterial community.

Synthesis and Thermal Behavior of Metallic Cobalt Micro and Nanostructures

In this contribution, a comparative study of metallic cobalt micro and nanoparticles obtained in solution by four different chemical routes is reported. Classic routes such as borohydride reduction in aqueous media and the so-called polyol methodology were used to obtain the cobalt nanostructures to be studied. Using CTAB as surfactant, cobalt hollow nanostructures were obtained. The use of strong reducing agents, like sodium borohydride, favors the formation of quasi-monodispersed nanoparticles of about 2 nm size but accompanied with impurities; for hydrazine(a mild reducer), nanoparticles of larger size are obtained which organize in spherical microagglomerates. Valuable information on the particles thermal stability and on nature of the species anchored at their surface was obtained from thermogravimetric curves. The samples to be studied were characterized from UV-vis, IR, X-ray diffraction, and electron microscopy images(scanning and transmission).

Texture, mineralogy, geochemistry, and 14C ages of two deep-sea sediment cores （GM6 and GM7） recovered in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico were investigated to infer their provenance and depositional condition. The sediments are enriched in fine-grained silt and clay and poor in sand content. Mineralogically, the sediments consist of quartz, calcite, smectite, and kaolinite. Based on the ]4C data, the age of the GM6 and GM7 sediment cores were calculated as 23,615 cal yrs. Bp and 19,007 cal yrs. Bp, respectively. The weathering indices such as chemical index of alteration （CIA）, chemical index of weathering （CIW）, and plagioclase index of alteration （pIA） in GM6 （56-69, 60-74, and 6]-73, respectively） and GM7 （54-69, 57-76, and 55-74, respectively） cores revealed a moderate-to-high intensity of weathering. The rare earth element （REE） patterns suggested that the sediments were derived mostly by the weathering of intermediate rocks, exposed along the coastal regions of the Gulf of Mexico. The trace elemental ratios like V/Cr （〈2）, Ni/Co （〈2）, and Cu/Zn （〈1）, authigenic uranium content （〈1）, and Ce anomaly （Ce/Ce＊ ≤1） suggested that the sediments were deposited under an oxic condition, which was also revealed by the benthic foraminiferal assemblages throughout the GM6 and GM7 sediment cores.

Sustained low diffusing capacity in hepatopulmonary syndrome after liver transplantation

AIM： To study the presence of sustained low diffusing capacity （DLco） after liver transplantation （LT） in patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome （HpS）. METHODS： Six patients with mild-to-severe HpS and 24 without HpS who underwent LT were prospectively followed before and after LT at mid-term （median, 15 mo）. HpS patients were also assessed at Iong-tem （median, 86 mo）. RESULTS： Before LT, HpS patients showed lower paO2 （71 ± 8 mmHg）, higher AapO2 （43 ± 10 mmHg） and lower DLco （54% ± 9% predicted）, due to a combination of moderate-to-severe ventilation-perfusion （VA/Q） imbalance, mild shunt and diffusion limitation, than non- HpS patients （94 ± 4 mmHg and 19 ± 3 mmHg, and 85% ± 3% predicted, respectively）（p 〈 0.05 each）. Seven non-HpS patients had also reduced DLco （70% ± 4% predicted）. At mid- and long-term after LT, compared to pre- LT, HpS patients normalized paO2 （91 ± 3 mmHg and 87 ± 5 mmHg）, AapO2 （14 ± 3 mmHg and 23 ± 5 mmHg） and all VA/Q descriptors （p 〈 0.05 each） without changes in DLco （53% ± 8% and 56% ± 7% predicted, respectively）. post-LT DLco in non-HpS patients with pre- LT low DLco was unchanged （75% ± 6% predicted）. CONCLUSION： While complete VA/Q resolution in HpS indicates a reversible functional disturbance, sustained low DLco after LT also present in some non-HpS patients, points to persistence of sub-clinical liver-induced pulmonary vascular changes.

Introduction:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)may be associated with various skin *** them,figurate erythema(FE)is rare;only a few clinical reports have been ***,we reported an unusual concentric FE lesions and their immunohistochemical profile in a patient with *** presentation:A 52-year-old woman was diagnosed with *** month later,she developed asymptomatic annular erythematous concentric ring lesions on her inner right *** margin of every ring increased in coloration,and the lesions then completely resolved in 2 weeks.A biopsy revealed vasculitis of small vessels,an increase in the fluorescence intensity of CD3 and CD45,and negativity for COVID-19 ***:The results showed an unusual FE that has a clinical mixed type between erythema annulare centrifugum and erythema gyratum repens;the physiopathological mechanism in the FE due to COVID-19 is unknown;one theory involves rapid viral passage into the cutaneous vascular system that triggers an immune and inflammatory *** the results exhibited a negative COVID-19 RNA in the tissue,the CD3^(+)/CD45^(+)lymphocyte infiltration could explain the clinical pattern as a direct inflammatory response in the small vessel or as a delayed immune ***:Our findings suggest an immunohistochemical small vessel vasculitis pattern with an unusual clinical FE that differs from other types of COVID-19-associated FE or erythema reported previously.
