Crosslinked biopolymers were prepared for controlled release to investigate the diffusion of ascorbic acid from swelling high-solid networks in neutral and acidic pH *** swelling was measured at pH 2.8 and pH 6.8 and change in microstructural properties,including network mesh size and average molecular weight between crosslinks of genipin-crosslinked gelatin and genipin-crosslinked chitosan systems,were *** mathematical modelling was applied to the first 60%of ascorbic acid diffusion and statistical analysis was used to determine the model that best fits the experimental *** transport from the gelatin-based networks was best described by the Peppas-Sahlin model whereas the distinct effect of pH on chitosan structure formation brought into consideration the zero-order *** modelling of bioactive compound release from swelling biopolymer matrices at different pH conditions is essential for the design of efficient targeted delivery matrices for functional food and nutraceutical applications.

Inquiries into rural households’engagement with smallholder agriculture remain ambiguous and *** this reason,research on cultivation patterns has been informed by numerous articles published in recent ***,studies detailing the development and progress of deagrarianization remain *** attempts to bridge this knowledge gap,the study aims to provide empirical insights into the trajectories of deagrarianization in South *** published between 1996 and 2021 were retrieved from Clarivate Web of Science for analysis.A combination of the Preferred reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses(PrISMA)and bibliometric analysis was adopted to provide a comprehensive review of deagrarianization *** findings emphasize that the field of deagrarianization is gaining momentum as publications gradually emerge to indicate that although cultivation is dominant among rural households,there is a reduction in field cultivation and an increase in home-gardening in former homelands of South ***,common keywords in deagrarianization literature,from a global,African and South African perspective include poverty and liveli*** that majority of deagrarianization studies analyze patterns,drivers and consequences of the phenomenon,future research needs to consider novel methodologies such as participatory GIS and new avenues that incorporate,but are not limited to,other livelihood issues such as social identities and food *** is advised that strategies for enhancing rural development and agricultural policies focus on broader solutions that do not only sustain home-gardens but also revitalize both active and abandoned fields.

There have been rapid developments in gastroenterology(GE)over the last *** until the late 1980s,GE-training was incorporated in Internal Medicine *** introduction of endoscopy has necessitated the need for additional *** the world different national boards have developed their own curricula which will be discussed in this paper. Emphasis will be placed on the curriculum recently introduced in The *** internal medicine component has become a two-year requirement (Common Trunk)and the duration of training in GE has been extended to four *** of the growing complexity of GE,there are now four subspecialties:Interventional Endoscopy,Neuromotility, Oncology and Hepatology that trainees can choose *** subspecialties each have predefined specific *** World Gastroenterology Organization has drawn up a standard curriculum which can be of help to the boards in different countries. The curriculum emphasizes the knowledge and skill *** curriculum also defines the training recommendations,the requirements of training facilities and competence evaluation of fellows and facilities,while less is said about research,finance and the number of gastroenterologists *** the coming decades the curriculum will need to be revised *** of the curriculum will be the next challenge for the years to come.

Tropical forests provide several ecosystem services and functions and support approximately two-thirds of the world’s biodiversity but are seriously threatened by *** to counteract this menace have revolved around aff orestation with several or a single tree *** thus investigated how plantation forests with either a single or several tree species infl uenced arthropod taxonomic and community composition using pitfall traps to sample selected groups of epigeal arthropods(Araneae,Coleoptera,Orthoptera and Hymenoptera)and with environmental variables assessed *** results revealed 54 taxonomic groups with signifi cantly higher taxonomic richness,activity density,and diversity in the mixed stands than in the monoculture *** significant differences in community composition were mainly driven by families including Lycosidae,Formicidae,Staphylinidae,Scotylidae,Hydrophilidae,Gryllidae and Scarabaeidae and were explained by distinct habitat characteristics(canopy openness,litter depth,deadwood volume,and tree height).While the diverse tree communities and heterogeneous vegetation structure off ered food and habitat resources for diverse arthropod groups,the allelopathic nature coupled with homogenous stand characteristics of the Tectona grandis stands in the monoculture suppressed the growth of understorey vegetation that could otherwise serve as food and habitat resources for arthropods,which might have led to limited activities and diversity of arthropods in the monoculture plantation *** fi ndings thus highlight the need to promote mixed tree plantations in degraded tropical areas,especially when restoring biodiversity is the prime management focus.

Objective:Young people with congenital heart disease(CHD)are at increased risk of psychosocial issues,includ-ing anxiety and depression that can affect their medical care and quality of *** open trial investigated the acceptability,feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of YouthCHAT,a tablet-based screener,designed to identify similar issues to a face to face psychosocial assessment,with young people who have ***:Youth-CHAT was administered to 44 such young people aged 15–25 years attending a specialist outpatient clinic at a New Zealand tertiary *** outcomes were(i)acceptability and(ii)feasibility of YouthCHAT,assessed via feedback from young people and clinicians and(iii)detection rates for each domain of YouthCHAT,measured by mental health or lifestyle issue being‘present’or‘absent’.results:YouthCHAT was quick to complete(mean 9 min and 7 s)and well-received by young people(overall rating 7 out of 10)and *** of anxiety,substance use and other issues were similar to those in a previous study of young people with mixed long-term physical ***,rates of depression(41%)and life stresses(98%)were notably ***:Although further research is required,our results provide initial evidence that YouthCHAT is a viable and accep-table psychosocial screener with which to improve the holistic care of young people with CHD.

Low back pain(LBP)is the world's leading cause of disability and is increasing in prevalence more rapidly than any other pain *** disc(IVD)degeneration and facet joint osteoarthritis(FjOA)are two common causes of LBP,and both occur more frequently in elderly women than in other ***,osteoarthritis(OA)and OA pain,regardless of the joint,are experienced by up to twice as many women as men,and this difference is amplified during *** in estrogen may be an important contributor to these pain *** for estrogen have been found within IVD tissue and nearby joints,highlighting the potential roles of estrogen within and surrounding the IVDs and *** addition,estrogen supplementation has been shown to be effective at ameliorating IVD degeneration and OA progression,indicating its potential use as a therapeutic agent for people with LBP and OA *** review comprehensively examines the relationship between estrogen and these pain conditions by summarizing recent preclinical and clinical *** potential molecular mechanisms by which estrogen may relieve LBP associated with IVD degeneration and FjOA and OA pain are discussed.

Currently,1% of the United States population holds a diagnosis for celiac disease(CD),however,a more recently recognized and possibly related condition,"non-celiac gluten sensitivity"(NCGS)has been suggested to affect up to 6%of the United States *** reliable clinical tests for CD exist,diagnosing individuals affected by NCGS is still complicated by the lack of reliable biomarkers and reliance upon a broad set of intestinal and extra intestinal symptoms possibly provoked by *** has been proposed to exhibit an innate immune response activated by gluten and several other wheat *** present,an enormous food industry has developed to supply gluten-free products(GFP)with GFP sales in 2014 approaching$1 billion,with estimations projecting sales to reach$2 billion in the year *** enormous demand for GFP also reflects a popular misconception among consumers that gluten avoidance is part of a healthy lifestyle *** of NCGS and other gluten related disorders(e.g.,irritable bowel syndrome)call for a review of current distinctive diagnostic criteria that distinguish each,and identification of biomarkers selective or specific for *** aim of this paper is to review our current understanding of NCGS,highlighting the remaining challenges and questions which may improve its diagnosis and treatment.
