BACKGROUND:Heatstroke has become a common emergency event in ***(PCT)is used as a biomarker of infection in the emergency department(ED),but its role in rhabdomyolysis(RM)following exertional heatstroke(EHS)remains ***:A retrospective cohort study enrolled patients with EHS from the intensive care unit(ICU).We collected RM biomarkers,inflammation markers,critical disease scores at admission,24 h,48 h,and discharge,and 90-day *** analysis,linear regression and curve fi tting were used to identify the relationship between PCT and ***:A total of 162 patients were recruited and divided into RM(n=56)and non-RM(n=106)*** was positively correlated with myoglobin(Mb),acute hepatic injury,disseminated intravascular coagulation(DIC),Sequential Organ Failure Assessment(SOFA)score,and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II(APACHE II)score,with correlation coefficients of 0.214,0.237,0.285,0.454,and 0.368,respectively(all P<0.05).Interestingly,the results of curve fi tting revealed a nonlinear relationship between PCT and RM,and a two-piecewise linear regression model showed that PCT was related to RM with an odds ratio of 1.3 and a cut-off of<4.6 ng/*** analysis revealed that RM was associated with higher mortality compared to non-RM cases(P=0.0093).CONCLUSION:High serum PCT concentrations are associated with RM after EHS in critically ill *** PCT concentrations should be interpreted cautiously in patients with EHS in the ED.

Deep learning model based on PET/CT and combination with Cox proportional hazard model for predicting progression of lung invasive adenocarcinoma after surgery

Objective To observe the efficacy of deep learning(DL)model based on PET/CT and its combination with Cox proportional hazard model for predicting progressive disease(PD)of lung invasive adenocarcinoma within 5 years after *** The clinical,PET/CT and 5-year follow-up data of 250 patients with lung invasive adenocarcinoma were retrospectively *** to PD or not,the patients were divided into the PD group(n=71)and non-PD group(n=179).The basic data and PET/CT findings were compared between groups,among which the quantitative variables being significant different between groups were transformed to categorical variables using receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve and corresponding cut-off *** Cox proportional hazard model was used to select independent predicting factors of PD of lung invasive adenocarcinoma within 5 years after *** patients were divided into training,validation and test sets at the ratio of 6∶2∶2,and PET/CT data in training set and validation set were used to train model and tuning parameters to build the PET/CT DL model,and the combination model was built in serial connection of DL model and the predictive *** test set,the efficacy of each model for predicting PD of lung invasive adenocarcinoma within 5 years after surgery was assessed and compared using the area under the curve(AUC).Results Patients'gender and smoking status,as well as the long diameter,SUV max and SUV mean of lesions measured on PET images,the long diameter,short diameter and type of lesions showed on CT were statistically different between groups(all P4.15(HR=5.249[1.062,25.945],P=0.042)were both predictors of PD of lung invasive adenocarcinoma within 5 years after *** test set,the AUC of PET/CT DL model for predicting PD was 0.847,of the combination model was 0.890,of the latter was higher than of the former(P=0.036).Conclusion DL model based on PET/CT

Hereditary spastic paraplegia(HSP)is a group of disorders with genetic heterogeneity,lower-extremity weakness,and spasticity are the most common signs and *** is the most frequently disease-causing *** is a microtubule-severing enzyme encoded by SPAST that cleaves long microtubules into short fragments by interacting with other proteins or *** spastic paraplegia type 4(SPG4),which is autosomal dominant,is the clinical subtype associated with SPAST ***4 accounts for up to one-third of all HSP cases and usually presents with isolated lower extremity spasticity,with or without bladder or sensory dysfunction.1 The main cause of SPG4 is believed to be spastin haploinsufficiency,which results from mutations in the SPAST gene.

This paper presents an attempt at assimilating clear-sky FY-4A Advanced Geosynchronous Radiation Imager(AGRI)radiances from two water vapor channels for the prediction of three landfalling typhoon events over the West Pacific Ocean using the 3DVar data assimilation(DA)method along with the WRF model.A channel-sensitive cloud detection scheme based on the particle filter(PF)algorithm is developed and examined against a cloud detection scheme using the multivariate and minimum residual(MMR)algorithm and another traditional cloud mask–dependent cloud detection *** show that both channel-sensitive cloud detection schemes are effective,while the PF scheme is able to reserve more pixels than the MMR scheme for the same *** general,the added value of AGRI radiances is confirmed when comparing with the control experiment without AGRI ***,it is found that the analysis fields of the PF experiment are mostly improved in terms of better depicting the typhoon,including the temperature,moisture,and dynamical *** typhoon track forecast skill is improved with AGRI radiance DA,which could be explained by better simulating the upper *** impact of assimilating AGRI radiances on typhoon intensity forecasts is *** the other hand,improved rainfall forecasts from AGRI DA experiments are found along with reduced errors for both the thermodynamic and moisture fields,albeit the improvements are limited.

In situ diet of the copepod Calanus sinicus in coastal waters of the South Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea

Copepods are a key trophic link between primary producers and predatory animals at higher trophic levels in the marine ecosystem. Knowledge of the in situ composition of the copepod diet is critical for the accurate evaluation of trophic relationships and energy transfer in marine food webs. In this study, we applied a PCR-based cloning technique developed previously to investigate the in situ diet of Calanus sinicus, an ecologically important largesized calanoid copepod that dominates in the shelf waters around China, Japan and Korea. Analyses of the 18S rDNA sequences obtained from the copepod diet revealed the diverse food composition of C. sinicus from two stations （Y19 in the South Yellow Sea and B49 in the Bohai Sea）. A total of 43 operational taxonomic units （OTUs） were detected, which belonged to 13 diverse lineages： Bacillariophyta, Dinoflagellata, Dictyochophyceae, Chrysophyta, Katablepharidophyta, Pelagophyceae, Apusozoa, Hydrozoa, Ctenophora, Echinodermata, Tunicata, Chaetognatha and marine fungi. The results indicate that during an algae bloom, C. sinicus can graze on the bloom causative species. When the abundance of phytoplankton in ambient water is relatively low, C. sinicus can choose eggs, larvae, or organic particles/detritus of various metazoans, especially hydrozoans and ctenophores, as alternative food sources. Our result suggests that C. sinicus is an omnivorous species, and its prey choice may depend on the food availability in the ambient waters.

Probiotic Pediococcus pentosaceus restored gossypol-induced intestinal barrier injury by increasing propionate content in Nile tilapia

Background Intestinal barrier is a dynamic interface between the body and the ingested food components, however, dietary components or xenobiotics could compromise intestinal integrity, causing health risks to the host. Gossypol, a toxic component in cottonseed meal(CSM), caused intestinal injury in fish or other monogastric animals. It has been demonstrated that probiotics administration benefits the intestinal barrier integrity, but the efficacy of probiotics in maintaining intestinal health when the host is exposed to gossypol remains unclear. Here, a strain(YC) affiliated to Pediococcus pentosaceus was isolated from the gut of Nile tilapia(Oreochromis niloticus) and its potential to repair gossypol-induced intestinal damage was *** A total of 270 Nile tilapia(2.20 ± 0.02 g) were allotted in 3 groups with 3 tanks each and fed with 3 diets including CON(control diet), GOS(control diet containing 300 mg/kg gossypol) and GP(control diet containing 300 mg/kg gossypol and 10^(8) colony-forming unit(CFU)/g P. pentosaceus YC), respectively. After 10 weeks, addition of P. pentosaceus YC restored growth retardation and intestinal injury induced by gossypol in Nile tilapia. Transcriptome analysis and si RNA interference experiments demonstrated that NOD-like receptors(NLR) family caspase recruitment domain(CARD) domain containing 3(Nlrc3) inhibition might promote intestinal stem cell(ISC) proliferation, as well as maintaining gut barrier integrity. 16S r RNA sequencing and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) revealed that addition of P. pentosaceus YC altered the composition of gut microbiota and increased the content of propionate in fish gut. Gut microbiome-based thiamine metabolism contributes to the protective effect of one acidic polysaccharide from Selaginella uncinata(Desv.)Spring against inflammatory bowel disease

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a serious disorder,and exploration of active compounds to treat it is *** acidic polysaccharide named SUSP-4 was purified from Selaginella uncinata(Desv.)Spring,which contained galacturonic acid,galactose,xylose,arabinose,and rhamnose with the main chain structure of→4)-α-d-GalAp-(1→and→6)-β-d-Galp-(1→and the branched structure of→5)-α-l-Araf-(1→.Animal experiments showed that compared with Model group,SUSP-4 significantly improved body weight status,disease activity index(DAI),colonic shortening,and histopathological damage,and elevated occludin and zonula occludens protein 1(ZO-1)expression in mice induced by dextran sulfate sodium salt(DSS).16S ribosomal RNA(rRNA)sequencing indicated that SUSP-4 markedly downregulated the level of Akkermansia and *** results confirmed that SUSP-4 obviously elevated thiamine levels compared with Model mice by adjusting thiamine metabolism,which was further confirmed by a targeted metabolism *** transplantation experiments showed that SUSP-4 exerted an anti-IBD effect by altering the intestinal flora in mice.A mechanistic study showed that SUSP-4 markedly inhibited macrophage activation by decreasing the levels of phospho-nuclear factor kappa-B(p-NF-κB)and cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2)and elevating NF-E2-related factor 2(Nrf2)levels compared with Model *** conclusion,SUSP-4 affected thiamine metabolism by regulating Akkermania and inhibited macrophage activation to adjust NF-κB/Nrf2/COX-2-mediated inflammation and oxidative stress against *** is the first time that plant polysaccharides have been shown to affect thiamine metabolism against IBD,showing great potential for in-depth research and development applications.
