An investigation of changes in water quality throughout the drinking water production/distribution chain using toxicological and fluorescence analyses

Changes in water quality from source water to finished water and tap water at two conventional drinking water treatment plants(DWTPs)were *** the routine water quality testing,Caenorhabditis elegans-based toxicity assays and the fluorescence excitation–emission matrices technique were also *** DWTPs supplied drinking water that met government *** current test conditions,both the investigated finished water and tap water samples exhibited stronger lethal,genotoxic and reprotoxic potential than the relative source water sample,and the tap water sample was more lethal but tended to be less genotoxic than the corresponding finished water ***,the nearly complete removal of tryptophan-like substances and newly generated tyrosine-like substances were observed after the treatment of drinking water,and humic-like substances were identified in the tap *** on these findings,toxic pollutants,including genotoxic/reproductive toxicants,are produced in the drinking water treatment and/or distribution ***,further studies are needed to clarify the potentially important roles of tyrosine-like and humic-like substances in mediating drinking water toxicity and to identify the potential sources of these ***,tryptophan-like fluorescence may be adopted as a useful parameter to monitor the treatment performance of *** observations provided insights into the importance of utilizing biotoxicity assays and fluorescence spectroscopy as tools to complement the routine evaluation of drinking water.

The X-linked Trap1a gene encodes the tumor rejection antigen P1A,which is expressed in fetal tissues and multiple lineages of tumor *** function of this gene remains *** chimeric mice with wild-type(WT)and Trap1a^(−/y)bone marrow,we show that Trap1a^(−/y)donor cells are capable of generating most lineages of hematopoietic cells,with the notable exception of T *** of Trap1a selectively arrests T-cell development at double-negative stage 1(DN1,with a CD4^(−)CD8^(−)CD25^(−)CD44^(+)phenotype).Because Trap1a is expressed in Lin^(−)Sca-1^(+)c-Kit^(+)and common lymphoid progenitors but not in immature thymocytes(DN1-DN4),Trap1a mutations affect the differentiation potential of progenitor cells without directly acting on T *** a similarity in the blockade of DN1 to DN2 transition,the Trap1a^(−/y)DN1 cells have normal expression of c-Kit,in contrast to what was reported in the Notch1^(−/−)*** DNA profiling of Trap1a^(−/y)and WT embryonic stem cells shows that Trap1a does not regulate the Notch *** data reveal that Trap1a is an X-linked regulator that affects the differentiation potential of progenitor cells into T cells through a Notch-independent mechanism and identify an important function for the Trap1a gene.

Probing defects in ZnO by persistent phosphorescence

Native point defects in ZnO are so complicated that most of them are still debating issues, although they have been studied for decades. In this paper, we experimentally reveal two sub-components usually hidden in the low energy tail of the main broad green luminescence band peaking at 547 nm （-2.267 eV） in intentionally undoped ZnO single crystal by selecting the below-band-gap （BBG） optical excitations （e.g. light wavelengths of 385 nm and 450 nm）. Moreover, both sub-components are manifested as long persistent phosphorescence once the BBG excitations are removed. With the aid of a newly developed model, the energy depths of two electron traps involved within the long lived orange luminescence are determined to be 44 meV and 300 meV, respectively. The candidates of these two electron traps are argued to be most likely hydrogen and zinc interstitials in ZnO.

Direct determination of trace amounts of acetic acid using a novel ambient glow discharge ion source

A novel ambient glow discharge ion source with improved line-cylinder electrodes is put forward and designed in this paper. The diameters of inner and outer electrodes are 0.16 and 4 mm respectively. With a special assembly method, a perfect coaxiality of the two electrodes is obtained. From the gas discharge experiment, it can be seen that the discharge can stably work in normal glow discharge mode. The operating currents of the ion source are in an order of milliamperes and can generate a much larger number and wider variety of reagent ions. The MS experiment shows that the ion source has higher detection sensitivity,

Danshen protects endothelial progenitor cells from oxidized low-density lipoprotein induced impairment

In this study, we examined the protective effects of Danshen both on endothelial progenitor cells （EPCs） in patients with hypercholesterolemia and on in-vitro EPCs of healthy volunteers. In the clinical study, we randomly divided 24 subjects with hypercholesterolemia into two groups （the control group and the Danshen-treated group）. At the end of two weeks of treatment, the EPC cellular functions of both groups were tested. The results indicated that, compared to the control group, EPCs in the Danshen-treated group showed significantly better cellular functions, which was manifested in the cloning number, the proliferation capacity, the number of EPC adhesions, and cell migration. In the subsequent in-vitro experiments, EPCs were treated with vehicle, oxidized low-density lipoprotein （Ox-LDL, 100 pg/ml）, or Ox-LDL （100 pg/ml） plus different concentrations of Danshen （Danshensu 2, 10, or 50 pg/ml, respectively） for 24 h. The results showed that Danshen treatments can prevent the detrimental effects of Ox-LDL on EPC cellular functions measured by proliferation capacity （0.24±0.08, 0.37±0.11, 0.30±0.04 vs. 0.13±0.02, P〈0.05, P〈0.01, and P〈0.01, respectively）, and adhesion ability （63.00_±11.60, 70.00±10.80, 85.50±11.41 vs. 40.50±6.85, all P〈0.01）. Compared to the group treated with Ox-LDL alone, Danshen treatment significantly decreased the lipid peroxidation end product malondialdehyde （MDA） [（4.34±0.54）, （3.98±0.47）, （3.46±0.31） vs. （5.57-±0.64） nmol/ml, all P〈0.01], increased the production of superoxide dismutase （SOD） [（29.74±0.71）, （31.09±0.83）, （30.41±0.65） vs. （14.76±3.99） U/ml, all P〈0.01], and lowered the expression of interleukin-6 （IL-6） [（24.62±7.69）, （27.04±3.14）, （33.38±18.86） vs. （230.67±33.53） pg/ml, all P〈0.01] and tumor necrosis factor-α （TNF-α） [（41.72±6.10）, （17.02±6.82）, （3.73±2.26） vs. （228.71±41.53） pg/ml, all P〈0.01] in Ox-LDL treated EPCs. Given a road network G = （V, E）, where V（E） denotes the set of vertices（edges） in G, a set of points of interest P and a query point q residing in G, the reverse furthest neighbors （RFNR） query in road networks fetches a set of points p ∈ P that take q as their furthest neighbor compared with all points in P ∪ {q}. This is the monochromatic RFNR （MRFNR） query. Another interesting version of RFNR query is the bichromatic reverse furthest neighbor （BRFNR） query. Given two sets of points P and Q, and a query point q ∈ Q, a BRFNR query fetches a set of points p ∈ P that take q as their furthest neighbor compared with all points in Q. This paper presents efficient algorithms for both MRFNR and BRFNR queries, which utilize landmarks and partitioning-based techniques. Experiments on real datasets confirm the efficiency and scalability of proposed algorithms.

针对风电场短期风速预测准确度不高的问题,提出一种基于互补集成经验模态分解和Stacking融合的短期风速组合预测模型。首先,为突出短期风速的局部特征并降低建模难度,通过互补集成经验模态分解算法将短期风速分解为若干个稳定分量。然后,利用信息熵和近似熵来判定各分量的复杂度,高复杂度分量选择最小二乘支持向量机、低复杂度分量选择随机配置网络作为对应的预测模型。利用Stacking算法对每个模型的预测值进行融合,使预测精度得到提升。最后,通过一组实际的短期风速数据作为研究对象,将提出的预测模型应用于其预测。对比结果表明,所提预测模型可提高短期风速的预测精度。
