Evidence from In Situ Bioassays and Suspect Analysis Revealed the Region-Specific Aquatic Risk across Socioeconomic Gradients in China

Various contaminants are present in aquatic environment and pose potential threats to pelagic and benthic organisms,calling for effective risk *** risk assessments based on target analysis are useful when the principal contaminants responsible for ecological risk are known;however,these approaches become challenging when dealing with chemical *** addition,the compositions of chemical mixtures often differ in regions with different levels of socioeconomic develop-ment,requiring risk assessment methods that are applicable under different pollution ***,in situ bioassays were conducted with two native species,Chinese rare minnows(Gobiocypris rarus)and Asian clams(Corbicula fluminea),in economically developed watersheds in China(Pearl River Basin(PRB)and Taihu Lake Basin(THB))and agriculture-dominated Poyang Lake Basin(PYB).Significant lethal and sublethal effects(e.g.,neurotoxicity,reproductive toxicity,and metabolic and oxidative stress)were observed in fish and clams irrespective of economic ***,ecological effects differed significantly between water and sediment phases within the same ***(98 contaminants)and suspect screening(942 contaminants)revealed regional-specific *** risk assessments using a weight of evidence approach demonstrated that both water and sediment in the PRB were at moderate to high risk,as was the sediment in the less developed ***,the characteristics of mixture pollution varied greatly among *** screening identified many pollutants that are not regularly monitored but are present at high environmental concentrations and are linked to local industrial *** distinct mixture risk characteristics across different basins suggest that mitigating aquatic pollution requires region-specific management measures.

To investigate the seismic response of the steel-strip reinforced soil retaining wall with fullheight rigid facing in terms of the acceleration in the backfill, dynamic earth pressure in the backfill, the displacements on the facing and the dynamic reinforcement strain distribution under different peak acceleration, a large 1-g shaking table test was performed on a reduced-scale reinforced-earth retaining wall model. It was observed that the acceleration response in non-strip region is greater than that in potential fracture region which is similar with the stability region under small earthquake,while the acceleration response in potential fracture region is greater than that in stability region in middle-upper of the wall under moderately strong earthquakes. The potential failure model of the rigid wall is rotating around the wall toe. It also was discovered that the Fourier spectra produced by the inputting white noises after seismic wave presents double peaks, rather than original single peak, and the frequency of the second peak trends to increase with increasing the PGA(peak ground amplitude) of the excitation which is greater than 0.4 g. Additionally,the non-liner distribution of strip strain along the strips was observed, and the distribution trend was not constant in different row. Soil pressure peak value in stability region is larger than that in potential fracture region. The wall was effective under 0.1 g-0.3 g seismic wave according to the analyses of the facing displacement and relative density. Also, it was discovered that the potential failure surface is corresponds to that in design code, but the area is larger. The results from the study can provide guidance for a more rational design of reinforced earth retaining walls with full-height rigid facing in the earthquake zone.

Since the mechanisms of methane-mudstone interactions are important for estimating shale gas reserves,methane adsorption under supercritical conditions of 30 MPa pressure and 303.15,333.15,363.15 K temperatures was studied to measure the excess methane adsorption in two mudstone samples from Yanchang Formation,Ordos *** adsorption features inflection points where the amount of adsorbed gas changes from increasing to decreasing *** methods(fixed,slope,and freely fitted density)were applied to calculate the adsorbed-phase density(rad),which was then used to fit the measured excess *** criteria,the goodness-of-fit and whether the fitting can obtain reasonable absolute adsorption,were applied to determine the most accurate *** indicated that the supercritical Dubinin-Radushkevich(SDR)model with freely fitted rad was the most reasonable *** volume of adsorbed methane at 363.15 K is close to the micropore(d<2 nm)volume of the corresponding *** the actual geological conditions,the adsorbed gas should be predominantly stored in *** parameters reveal that the methane adsorption on mudstone is a physisorption process that is jointly controlled by the heterogeneity of,and interaction forces between the methane molecule and,the rock surface.

Interbasin water transfer projects(IBWT's)have emerged as dispersal corridors for aquatic ***,little is known about how water transfer affects regional spread dynamics,or shapes the genetic diversity patterns of non-native *** Goby Tridentiger bifasciatus is a globally introduced fish species with many wellestablished populations in IBWT'***,we used nuclear microsatellites to assess the genetic diversity and population structure of the Shimofuri Goby in its native and introduced sites belonging to two IBWT's in *** objectives were to(1)reveal the genetic diversity patterns of the Shimofuri Goby during regional spread,and(2)identify its mode of spreading in water transfer *** observed(1)a high level of genetic diversity in non-native populations without evidence of bottleneck effects,(2)that non-native populations with a longer water transfer times had a higher private allele richness,and(3)that non-native populations showed a highly mixed genetic structure,low level of genetic differentiation,and no significant relationship between geographical and genetic *** results indicate that the genetic patterns of diversity of non-native populations are mainly shaped by a linear cascade spread processes due to long-distance movement of larvae,and are probably related to propagule pressure caused by the construction of water *** manage the non-native populations of ***,preventive actions and physical removal should be implemented in IBWT's.

BACKGROUND With the development of the economy and improvements in living standards,the incidences of diabetes mellitus(DM)and diabetic retinopathy(DR),which is a complication of DM,are on the *** To analyze early DR in patients with macular zone changes in biological images using optical coherence tomography angiography METHODS A prospective case study was performed on 59 participants:35 healthy eyes(control group),35 eyes with diabetes but no DR group(no DR group),and 35 eyes with mild DR(NPDR group).All quantitative comparisons of parameters,including the fovea vascularity area,circularity index,and vascular complexity parameters,were performed using a biological image analysis *** The foveal avascular zone(FAZ)area,FAZ circularity index,number of branches in the area,and the total of the single branches’length in the area was 0.366±0.031,0.834±0.037,3241.8±268.3,and 3.860×107±0.194×107,and 0.421±0.030,0.739±0.023,2956.6±476.4,and 3.177×107±0.161×107 in the no DR group and the NPDR group,respectively,which were significantly different from the corresponding parameters of the control group(P<0.05).Moreover,there were significant differences between these two groups(P<0.05).CONCLUSION This study shows that early microcirculation changes in the macular area of the retina is associated with disease *** changes in DR can be analyzed using optical coherence tomography angiography.
