Attenuation of dextran sodium sulphate induced colitis in matrix metalloproteinase-9 deficient mice

AIM: To study whether matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) is a key factor in epithelial damage in the dextran sodium sulphate (dSS) model of colitis in ***: MMP-9-deficient and wild-type (wt) mice were given 5% dSS in drinking water for 5 d followed by recovery up to 7 d. On d 5 and 12 after induction of colitis, gelatinases, MMP-2 and MMP-9, were measured in homogenates of colonic tissue by zymography and Western blot, whereas tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) were measured by reverse zymography. The gelatinolytic activity was also determined in supernatants of polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) isolated from mice blood. Moreover, intestinal epithelial cells were stimulated with TNF-α to study whether these cells were able to produce MMPs. Finally, colonic mucosal lesions were measured by microscopic examination. RESULTS: On d 5 of colitis, the activity of MMP-9 was increased in homogenates of colonic tissues (0.24 ± 0.1 vs 21.3 ± 6.4, P d PMN from peripheral blood in wt (0.5 ± 0.1 vs 10.4 ± 0.7, P deficient animals. The MMP-9 activity was also up-regulated by TNF-α in epithelial intestinal cells (2.5 ± 0.5 vs 14.7 ± 3.0, P d to increase of TIMP-1 activity, the MMP-9/TIMP-1 balance remained elevated. Finally, in the MMP-9-deficient colitic mice both the extent and severity of intestinal epithelialinjury were significantly attenuated when compared with wt mice. CONCLUSION: We conclude that dSS induced colitis is markedly attenuated in animals lacking MMP-9. This suggests that intestinal injury induced by dSS is modu-lated by MMP-9 and that inhibition of this gelatinase may reduce inflammation.

A resistant method for landmark-based analysis of individual asymmetry in two dimensions

Symmetry of biological structures can be thought as the repetition of their parts in different positions and orientations. Asymmetry analyses, therefore, focuses on identifying and measuring the location and extent of symmetry departures in such structures. In the context of geometric morphometrics, a key step when studying morphological variation is the estimation of the symmetric shape. The standard procedure uses the least-squares Procrustes superimposition, which by averaging shape differences often underestimates the symmetry departures thus leading to an inaccurate description of the asymmetry pattern. Moreover, the corresponding asymmetry values are neither geometrically intuitive nor visually perceivable. Methods： In this work, a resistant method for landmark-based asymmetry analysis of individual bilateral symmetric structures in 2d is introduced. A geometrical derivation of this new approach is offered, while its advantages in comparison with the standard method are examined and discussed through a few illustrative examples. Results： Experimental tests on both artificial and real data show that asymmetry is more effectively measured by using the resistant method because the underlying symmetric shape is better estimated. Therefore, the most asymmetric （respectively symmetric） landmarks are better determined through their large （respectively small） residuals. The percentage of asymmetry that is accounted for by each landmark is an additional revealing measure the new method offers which agrees with the displayed results while helping in their biological interpretation. Conclusions： The resistant method is a useful exploratory tool for analyzing shape asymmetry in 2d, and it might be the preferable method whenever a non homogeneous deformation of bilateral symmetric structures is possible. In pancreas transplantation, complications can arise at each step of the process,from the initial selection of donors and recipients through the surgical techniqueitself and the post-operative period, when lifelong immunosuppression isrequired. In the early steps, careful retrieval and preservation of the pancreas arecrucial for the viability of the organ and ultimate success of the transplant. Thepancreas is a low-flow gland, making it highly sensitive to transplantationconditions and presenting risk of pancreatitis due to periods of ischemia. The twogroups of donors - after brain death (dBd) or after cardiac arrest (dCd) - requiredifferent strategies of retrieval and preservation to avoid or reduce the risk ofcomplications developing during and after the transplantation. For dBd donortransplantation, multiorgan retrieval and cold preservation is the conventionaltechnique. Asystole donor (dCd) transplantation, in contrast, can benefit from thenewest technologies, such as hypothermic and especially normothermicpreservation machines (referred to as NECMO), to optimize organ *** latter has led to an increase in the pool of donors by facilitating recuperationof organs for transplantation that would have been discarded otherwise.

The aim of this study was the synthesis of silver nanoparticle using Annona diversifolia *** silver nanoparticles obtained were analyzed by spectroscopic methods and dynamic light scattering *** inhibition of AgNPs was evaluated against Bacillus cereus,Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter *** results showed that AgNPs have high values at 3 keV and particle size between 45 to 58 nm with a homogenous *** AgNPs showed growth inhibition against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterobacter *** studies are needed to confirm the potential antimicrobial of different AgNP from *** in Gram negative and Gram positive bacteria.

In the present study,the green synthesis of potassium nanoparticles(K-NPs)was assessed using aqueous extract of Sideroxylon *** potassium nanoparticles were analyzed by UV-visible spectroscopic techniques,X-ray spectrometers of energy dispersive(SEM-EdS)and dynamic light *** results showed high values at 3.5 keV confirming the formation of potassium nanoparticles and the SEM analysis showed an agglomerated particles size between 360 to 200 nm with a spherical *** K-NPs showed an effective antibacterial activity against the test organisms mainly with Bacillus cereus,Enterobacter aerogenes,Fusarium solani and Botrytis *** further studies about nanotoxicity of K-NPs are needed to confirm their potential in the control of the pathogen microorganisms under field conditions.

In general, investigations carried out to date regarding/measuring systems/systems of measurement of sustainable development present two peculiarities： Either they are of a limited practical nature or they do not allow for comparisons between different areas or economies. Global synthetic indicators are an exception to the above; however they have been scarcely developed. This article designs an index of said characteristics, which is subsequently applied to all the countries within the European Union and to the region of Galicia.

出于对这篇论文所涉及话题以及撰写人能力及各方面因素的综合考量，我认为很有必要在此基础上创建一个项目，以向读者证实它的务实性和实用性。换句话说，我认为它不应只具有学术用途，而是同时具备在实际商务操作中的参考或指南作用。因此我将论文题目定为：论外国企业家在中国面临的挑战。通过相关调查以及对一些在中国生活过一段时间的外籍人士的访谈后发现，对于年轻的外籍企业家来讲，很显然，在中国进行贸易的最大挑战来自于文化差异，在此基础上贸易如何开展以及如何运行。虽然这个问题看上去笼统且显而易见，但是实际上它却可以细分至许多层面。它涉及到许多不同的因素，语言、文化、风俗、实际知识、刻板印象等等。在快节奏不断变化的世界中，重要的是能够直接从源头获取信息，从而揭示被人们忽略的认为是无关的因素。日常生活中的挑战在此会得到检验，从而为那些企业家提供更加具体形象的概念而不是简单的宏观数据或者是一些带有成见的见解。在这个项目中，所有相关因素会被有顺序的发掘研究从而显示这些个体带有何种挑战性而不是只简单的设立一个商业项目，它更需要通过日常操作才能得到不断前行、成长以至获得成功。

This work was carried out to evaluate the insecticidal effect of mono,bi and trimetallic nanoparticles(NPs)from leaf extract of habanero pepper(Capsicum chinense Jacq.)on the red flour beetle(Tribolium castaneum herbst.)and cotton mealybug(Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley).The results showed that Cu NPs,Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs had high insecticidal effect against ***(63%-80% mortality after 96 h).The Cu NPs and Zn/Cu NPs showed also insecticidal effect against ***,but to a lesser extent(20%–28% after 96 h).With regards to the physicochemical characterization,Cu NPs had a zeta potential of 21.1 mV,whereas Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs exhibited zeta potentials of 200 *** polydispersity index(PdI)values for Cu NPs,Cu/Mn NPs,and Zn/Cu NPs were 10.1,29.16,and 14.34,*** TF-IR spectra of the NPs varied from 600 to 4000 cm−*** EdX weight percentages showed the presence of Cu(0.29%–2.4%),Mn(1.4%),and Zn(2.6%)in Cu/Mn NPs and Zn/Cu NPs,respectively.

Comparison of Nine Membrane Pairs for Electrodialytic Removal of Nitrate Ions

Electrodialysis (Ed) of NaNO3 solutions was performed to stress the role of the membrane pair as a unit i.e. the behavior as a whole of Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) and Cation Exchange Membrane (CEM), in the process at room temperature. The membrane pair was also tested in the reclamation of nitric acid and sodium hydroxide. It was found that the membrane pair ranking in Limiting Current density does not agree with that of ions leakage and both rankings are not the same as for Current Efficiency or Specific Power Consumption, each parameter for a specific membrane pair depends on the associated membrane and at a lesser degree on the flow rate. Results show that one cannot select a membrane or a membrane pair only by its limiting current density i.e. it is necessary to evaluate several parameters of the process by characterizing the whole membrane pair and to decide the parameter of interest, i.e. denitrification speed, ions leakage, proton back migration, current efficiency or specific power consumption.
