Conversion of CO_(2) into high-value products using electrochemical CO_(2) reduction(ECR)technology is an effective way to alleviate global warming and reach carbon *** oxygen vacancies in heterogenous catalysis are generally considered as a powerful method to enhance the performance of ECR by promoting CO_(2) adsorption and ***,the extent of defects in oxygen vacancies-activity relation has rarely been ***,we prepared Cu-Cd bimetallic catalysts with adjustable oxygen defect degree by controlling the amount of cadmium *** transform infrared spectroscopy characterization results reveal that the formation of oxygen vacancies is attributed to the asymmetric stretching of Cu-O by the addition of *** results show that the oxygen defect degree can modulate the selectivity of ECR products.A low degree of oxygen defects(CuO)is generally associated with lower product Faraday efficiency(fe_(C2)/fe_(C1)≈114%),but overabundant oxygen vacancies(CuO_(2.625)-CdO_(0.375))are not entirely favorable to improving ECR activity(fe_(C2)/fe_(C1)≈125%)and single selectivity,while an appropriate degree of oxygen vacancies(CuO_(2.75)-CdO_(0.25))can facilitate the ECR process toward single product selective production(fe_(C2)/fe_(C1)≈296%).The theoretical calculation showed that the O vacancy formed on CuO and the interface between CdO and CuO were conducive to enhancing the formation of ^(*)COOH intermediate and promoting the generation of ethylene *** study provides a new approach and insight into the selective production of single products for future industrial applications of ECR.

Smoothed particle hydrodynamics based numerical study of hydroplaning considering permeability characteristics of runway surface

The presence of water films on a runway surface presents a risk to the landing of *** tire of the aircraft is separated from the runway due to a hydrodynamic force exerted through the water film,a phenomenon called *** a lot of numerical investigations into hydroplaning have been conducted,only a few have considered the impact of the runway ***,computational problems,such as excessive distortion and computing efficiency decay,may arise with such numerical models when dealing with the thin water *** paper presents a numerical model comprising of the tire,water film,and the interaction with the runway,applying a mathematical model using the smoothed particle hydrodynamics and finite element(SPH-fe)*** material properties and geometric features of the tire model were included in the model framework and water film thicknesses from 0.75 mm to 7.5 mm were used in the numerical ***,this work investigated the impacts of both surface texture and the runway *** interaction between tire rubber and the rough runway was analyzed in terms of frictional force between the two *** SPH-fe model was validated with an empirical equation proposed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA).Then the computational efficiency of the model was compared with the traditional coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian(CEL)*** on the SPH-fe model,four types of the runway(Flat,SMA-13,AC-13,and OgFC-13)were *** simulation of the asphalt runway shows that the SMA-13,AC-13,and OgFC-13 do not present a hydroplaning risk when the runway permeability coefficient exceeds 6%.

Renewable-energy-driven nitrate(NO_(3)^(−))electroreduction to ammonia(NH_(3))(NERA)has been an attractive technology for decarbonizing NH_(3)production and wastewater *** NERA efficiency requires electrocatalysts that are earth-abundant and show fantastic *** we report a semiempirical activity descriptor of eg occupancy(of surface B-site cations)for identifying inexpensive perovskite oxides with extremely high efficacy toward *** establish the descriptor by systematic investigations of more than 10 perovskite *** investigations demonstrate that their intrinsic NERA activities display a volcano-shaped dependence on eg occupancy and the optimized intrinsic activities are accessible at near-1 eg *** could plausibly be attributed to the favorable overlaps between surface adsorbates and vertically-oriented eg *** importantly,utilizing this descriptor,we predict a highly active,selective,and durable NERA electrocatalyst with a composition of Ba_(0.5)Sr_(0.5)Co_(0.8)fe_(0.2)O_(3−δ)(BSCF).Because of its close-to-1 e_(g)occupancy(i.e.~1.2),the BSCF features a superior NH_(3)production rate of 0.12 g·h^(−1)·mg_(cat.)^(−1)(Faradaic efficiency of 97.8%)that is at top of the volcano plot,and substantially outperforms most NERA electrocatalysts reported in literature.

Recent claim of discovering above-room-temperature superconductivity(Tc≈400 K)at ambient pressure in copper doped apatite Pb10(PO_(4))_(6)O has stimulated world-wide enthusiasm and impulse of motion.A lot of follow-up works have been carried out with controversial *** check whether superconductivity is really present or absent in the material,we need samples which should have a rather pure phase of Pb_(10-x)Cux(PO_(4))_(6)*** we report the characterization results from the Pb_(10-x)Cux(PO_(4))_(6)O with a fraction of about 97 wt.%inferred from the fitting to the X-ray diffraction pattern,if assuming Cu2S as the only *** resistivity measurements show that it is a semiconductor characterized roughly by a ln(1/T)temperature dependence in wide temperature region without trace of *** measurements show that it has a general ferromagnetic signal with a weak superparamagnetic *** grains of the sample show clear interactions with a Nb fe B *** detected Cu concentration is much lower than the expected nominal *** results show the absence of metallicity and superconductivity in Pb_(10-x)Cux(PO_(4))_(6)O at ambient pressure,and suggest the presence of strong correlation effect.

Electronic structural engineering of bimetallic Bi-Cu alloying nanosheet for highly-efficient CO_(2) electroreduction and Zn-CO_(2) batteries

Regulating the electronic structure of Bi-based materials by alloying engineering is promising to promote the electrocatalytic activity,but it remains some challenges to be *** this study,a facile electrochemical co-deposition strategy is developed to synthesize the bimetallic Bi_(9)Cu_(1) alloy nanosheet on carbon cloth(Bi_(9)Cu_(1)/CC),which represents a novel self-supporting electrode for the electrocatalytic carbon dioxide(CO_(2))reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR).The Bi_(9)Cu_(1)/CC catalyst has achieved a remarkable catalytic performance with high Faradaic efficiencies(fe)of over 90%for formate at wide potentials from-0.7 to-1.2 V *** hydrogen electrode(RHE).Moreover,the reversible Zn-CO_(2) battery can be driven by Bi_(9)Cu_(1)/CC cathode with a largest power density of 1.4 mW·cm^(-2),and superior operating *** systematic characterizations and electrochemical results confirm that the improved catalytic active sites,the enhanced mass/charge transport and the optimal reaction kinetics of Bi nanosheet are realized for CO_(2)RR by Cu *** situ attenuated total reflection infrared(ATR-IR)result confirms the bimetallic Bi-Cu active sites prefer to follow the^(*)OCHO conversion *** density functional theory(DFT)calculations suggest that the Cu alloying contributes to the increased density of states near the fermi surface of Bi and the optimized adsorption of^(*)OCHO intermediates on the Bi sites,resulting in the excellent catalytic performance.

Soaring bird migration often relies on suitable terrain and airflow;therefore,route selection is vital for successful *** age and experience have been identified as key factor influencing migration route selection among soaring raptors in the African-Eurasian Flyway,how they shape the migration route of soaring raptors in East Asia is still largely *** this study,we investigated potential variations in the routes and timing in autumn migration of juvenile and older soaring birds,using count data of greater Spotted Eagles(Clanga clanga)from two coastal sites and two inland sites in *** 2020 to 2023,we recorded a total of 340 individuals,with the highest site averaging over 90 individuals per autumn,making it one of the world’s top single-season counts and thus a globally important site for this *** found that 82% and 61% records from coastal sites were juveniles,significantly higher than inland sites(15% and 24%).Juveniles at all four sites exhibited markedly earlier median passage time than non-juveniles,with brief overlapping in their main migration *** coastal sites are located on the tip of peninsulas stretching southwest,requiring long overwater flights if crossing the Bohai Bay or Beibu gulf,which would be energetically demanding and increase mortality *** individuals may have learned to avoid such terrain and subsequent detour,while juveniles are more prone to enter these peninsulas due to lack of experience and opportunities for social learning,or following other raptor species that are more capable of powered *** findings highlight the importance of age and experience in migration route selection of large soaring birds.

Oral colonic nano-drug delivery system has attracted growing attention in treating colon cancer for their excellent ***,the unique and complex structure of the gastrointestinal tract is still an obstacle to the safe delivery of drugs targeting sites in colon ***,we designed magnetically driven dual-targeted oral colonic nanoparticles loaded with chlorogenic acid using pectin and oleic acid-modified iron oxide(fe3O4@OA).Specific degradation of pectin by pectinase produced by colonic flora and magnetic fields applied to the colon confers specific targeting of nanoparticles to the *** order to overcome the challenge of preparing magnetically driven nanoparticles with small and homogeneous particle sizes by a single conventional method,we developed the combined ultrasound-emulsification *** average particle size of the prepared nanoparticles was 81.04±1.02 nm,which showed good drug release in the simulated colonic *** vitro anticancer studies,the drug-loaded nanoparticles possess an obvious toxicity and apoptosis-inducing ability against cancer ***,the hemolysis results demonstrated the safety of the nanoplatform(PET/CgA/fe_(3)O_(4)@OA).This work holds broad prospects as a new treatment modality for colon cancer.

Identification of in situ generated Iron-Vacancy Induced Oxygen Evolution Reaction Kinetics on Cobalt Iron Oxyhydroxide

Developing highly efficient and low-cost electrocatalysts towards oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is essential for practical application in water electrolyzers and rechargeable metal-air *** fe-based oxyhydroxides are regarded as state-of-the-art non-noble OER electrocatalysts,the origin of performance enhancement derived from fe doping remains a hot topic of considerable ***,we demonstrate that in situ generated fe vacancies in the pristine CofeOOH catalyst through a pre-conversion process during alkaline OER result from dynamic fe dissolution,identifying the origin of fe-vacancy-induced enhanced OER *** functional theory(DFT)calculations and experimental results including X-ray absorption fine-structure spectroscopy,in situ UV-Vis spectroscopy,and in situ Raman spectroscopy reveal that the fe vacancies could significantly promote the d-band center and valence states of adjacent Co sites,alter the active site from fe atom to Co atom,accelerate the formation of high-valent active Co^(4+)species,and reduce the energy barrier of the potential-determining step,thereby contribute to the significantly enhanced OER performance.
