BACKGROUND Hypertrophic scars(HSs)formation is a complication that occurs after wounds heal with secondary intention and sometimes after clean surgical *** treatments are in vogue now with varying *** the mechanism or mechanisms that cause a HS to form are not clearly understood,one thing that is clear is that once scar tissue matures,any intervention will not be *** this paper,we report on a case where a patient who was known to develop HS was treated with a new combination of ingredients(Phyto-chemicals+Silicone JUmI)to suppress HS *** SUmmARY A 68-year-old female of African descent presented a severe HS post total knee replacement(TKR),which the patient describes as itchy and *** to complications caused by the scar,she was apprehensive about undergoing TKR on her other ***,after the TKR of the contralateral side post-removal of skin clips,JUmI anti-scar cream(JASC)was used to suppress excessive scar *** JASC appears potent and efficacious at suppressing excessive scar *** believe that this warrants further studies on larger patient groups and on different surgical sites.

Design and analysis of intrusion detection systems for wireless mesh networks

Intrusion is any unwanted activity that can disrupt the normal functions of wired or wireless networks. Wireless mesh networking technology has been pivotal in providing an affordable means to deploy a network and allow omnipresent access to users on the Internet. A multitude of emerging public services rely on the widespread, high-speed, and inexpensive connectivity provided by such networks. The absence of a centralized network infrastructure and open shared medium makes WmNs particularly susceptible to malevolent attacks, especially in multihop networks. Hence, it is becoming increasingly important to ensure privacy, security, and resilience when designing such networks. An effective method to detect possible internal and external attack vectors is to use an intrusion detection system. although many Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) were proposed for Wireless mesh Networks (WmNs), they can only detect intrusions in a particular layer. Because WmNs are vulnerable to multilayer security attacks, a cross-layer IDS are required to detect and respond to such attacks. In this study, we analyzed cross-layer IDS options in WmN environments. The main objective was to understand how such schemes detect security attacks at several OSI layers. The suggested IDS is verified in many scenarios, and the experimental results show its efficiency.

Vancomycin flushing syndrome in orthopaedic practice:A case report

BACKGROUND Vancomycin flushing syndrome(VFS),also known as red man syndrome,is an allergic reaction to *** typically presents as a rash on the face,neck,and upper torso after intravenous administration of *** is blamed on rapid intravenous infusion of vancomycin during management and rarely happens after local use.A review of the literature showed that in the last 23 years,4 such cases have been ***,we add another case of VFS developed after slow local absorption of vancomycin in cement *** SUmmARY A 44-year-old male with a known case of hypertension,no history of allergies to medications,and a history of chronic osteomyelitis of the right tibia with discharging sinus over the anterolateral aspect of the *** pus culture grew Staphylococcus aureus,which was sensitive to clindamycin and *** patient underwent irrigation and debridement with the placement of vancomycin cement beads made from 4 g of vancomycin powder and 40 g of polymethyl *** hours postoperatively,the patient developed a pruritic,erythematous,macular rash predominantly on his face,neck,chest,and lower extremities and to a lesser extent his upper extremities.A diagnosis of VFS was made and was successfully treated with cetirizine(10 mg,oral)and methylprednisolone sodium succinate(125 mg,intravenous).The patient continued to have itching with a facial rash for 12 h with gradual improvement.A decision was made to not remove the beads as the patient continued to ***,the rash disappeared after 96 h with no further *** VFS can occur not only after rapid intravenous injection of vancomycin but also with local release,as in our *** orthopaedic surgeons routinely use vancomycin with polymethyl methacrylate in chronic osteomyelitis and revision arthroplasty,they should be aware of such a complication occurring.

Role of bevacizumab intraocular injection in the management of neovascular glaucoma

AIm:To assess the long-term effects of intraocular bevacizumab(Avastin)injections as an adjunctive drug to manage patients with neovascular glaucoma(NVG).mETHODS:A retrospective study was conducted consisting of 34 eyes with secondary NVG caused by proliferative diabetic retinopathy(n=25),ischemic central retinal vein occlusion(n=8),and retinal ischemia resulting from persistent detachment(n=1)were managed by intraocular injections of bevacizumab(1.25 mg/0.05 m L),in addition to other *** main outcome measure was the change in the degree of iris *** outcomes included intraocular pressure and the number of additional interventions or antiglaucoma medications administered after ***:all patients were followed-up for at least 12 *** the last follow-up,complete regression of rubeosis irides was detectable in 13(38.2%)eyes and incomplete regression in 21 eyes(61.8%).The mean intraocular pressure was 45.32±7.185 mm Hg at baseline and significantly decreased to 26.15±5.679 mm Hg at the last follow-up visit(P=0.000005).Patients received an average of 4.97 *** additional treatments,12 eyes(35%)received laser photocoagulation and 6 eyes(18%)underwent *** further treatment was needed in 16 eyes(47.1%).CONCLUSION:Intravitreal bevacizumab injection can have a favorable effect in controlling intraocular pressure and pain control in patients with NVG because it decreases the angiogenesis and helps to augment the results of conventional *** primary cause of retinal ischemia should be always targeted.

Deep Learning Based Signal Detection for Quadrature Spatial modulation System

With the development of communication systems, modulation methods are becoming more and more diverse. Among them, quadrature spatial modulation(QSm) is considered as one method with less capacity and high efficiency. In QSm, the traditional signal detection methods sometimes are unable to meet the actual requirement of low complexity of the system. Therefore, this paper proposes a signal detection scheme for QSm systems using deep learning to solve the complexity problem. Results from the simulations show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed deep learning-based detector is better than that of the zero-forcing(ZF) and minimum mean square error(mmSE) detectors, and similar to the maximum likelihood(mL) detector. moreover, the proposed method requires less processing time than ZF, mmSE,and mL.

Developing a Recognition System for Classifying COVID-19 Using a Convolutional Neural Network algorithm

The COVID-19 pandemic poses an additional serious public health threat due to little or no pre-existing human immunity,and developing a system to identify COVID-19 in its early stages will save millions of *** study applied support vector machine(SVm),k-nearest neighbor(K-NN)and deep learning convolutional neural network(CNN)algorithms to classify and detect COVID-19 using chest X-ray *** test the proposed system,chest X-ray radiographs and CT images were collected from different standard databases,which contained 95 normal images,140 COVID-19 images and 10 SARS *** scenarios were considered to develop a system for predicting *** the first scenario,the Gaussian filter was applied to remove noise from the chest X-ray radiograph images,and then the adaptive region growing technique was used to segment the region of interest from the chest X-ray *** segmentation,a hybrid feature extraction composed of 2D-DWT and gray level co-occurrence matrix was utilized to extract the features significant for detecting *** features were processed using SVm and *** the second scenario,a CNN transfer model(ResNet 50)was used to detect *** system was examined and evaluated through multiclass statistical analysis,and the empirical results of the analysis found significant values of 97.14%,99.34%,99.26%,99.26%and 99.40%for accuracy,specificity,sensitivity,recall and AUC,***,the CNN model showed significant success;it achieved optimal accuracy,effectiveness and robustness for detecting COVID-19.

High Performance Priority Packets Scheduling mechanism for Big Data in Smart Cities

Today,Internet of Things(IoT)is a technology paradigm which convinces many researchers for the purpose of achieving high performance of packets delivery in IoT applications such as smart *** various physical devices such as sensors or actuators with the Internet may causes different constraints on the network resources such as packets delivery ratio,energy efficiency,end-to-end delays ***,traditional scheduling methodologies in large-scale environments such as big data smart cities cannot meet the requirements for high performance network *** big data smart cities applications which need fast packets transmission ratio such as sending priority packets to hospitals for an emergency case,an efficient schedulingmechanism ismandatory which is the main concern of this *** this paper,we overcome the shortcoming issues of the traditional scheduling algorithms that are utilized in big data smart cities emergency *** information about the priority packets between the source nodes(i.e.,people with emergency cases)and the destination nodes(i.e.,hospitals)is performed before sending the packets in order to reserve transmission channels and prepare the sequence of transmission of theses priority packets between the two *** our proposed mechanism,Software Defined Networking(SDN)with centralized communication controller will be responsible for determining the scheduling and processing sequences for priority packets in big data smart cities *** this paper,we compare between our proposed Priority Packets Deadline First scheduling scheme(PPDF)with existing and traditional scheduling algorithms that can be used in urgent smart cities applications in order to illustrate the outstanding network performance parameters of our scheme such as the average waiting time,packets loss rates,priority packets end-to-end delay,and efficient energy consumption.

Touch gesture recognition is an important aspect in human-robot interaction,as it makes such interaction effective and *** novelty of this study is the development of a system that recognizes human-animal affective robot touch(HAART)using a deep learning *** proposed system was used for touch gesture recognition based on a dataset provided by the Recognition of the Touch Gestures Challenge *** dataset was tested with numerous subjects performing different HAART gestures;each touch was performed on a robotic animal covered by a pressure sensor skin.A convolutional neural network algorithm is proposed to implement the touch recognition system from row inputs of the sensor *** leave-one-subject-out cross-validation method was used to validate and evaluate the proposed system.A comparative analysis between the results of the proposed system and the state-of-the-art performance is *** show that the proposed system could recognize the gestures in almost real time(after acquiring the minimum number of frames).According to the results of the leave-one-subject-out cross-validation method,the proposed algorithm could achieve a classification accuracy of 83.2%.It was also superior compared with existing systems in terms of classification ratio,touch recognition time,and data preprocessing on the same ***,the proposed system can be used in a wide range of real applications,such as image recognition,natural language recognition,and video clip classification.
