Impact of Educational Materials on the Duration of Exclusive Breastfeeding Assured by Women Who Delivered at the Souissi Maternity Hospital in Rabat

Background: The practice of exclusive breastfeeding (EB) in Morocco has witnessed a worrying decline in recent decades, contrary to the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) which advocates it during the first six months as a significant public health tool. The present study aims to assess the impact of educational materials on mothers’ behaviour with regard to keeping up EB as long as six months, at least. Methods: This is a cohort study with a prospective collection of data over a period of one year, through a questionnaire-based survey of 500 women who delivered at the Souissi Maternity Hospital in Rabat. The subjects were divided into an intervention group sensitized, during the medical visit, by means of information delivered orally about breastfeeding and a booklet containing instructions on breastfeeding management and the benefits of EB, especially when extended for the first six months;and a control group attending the same operation with no awareness-rising through educational materials. To assess EB rates, the subjects had been followed for six months through telephone. Results: 372 women who delivered were followed, 194 from the intervention group and 178 from the control group. The remaining 128 women not followed were lost sight of. A higher percentage of mothers in the intervention group exclusively breastfed their babies up to the age of six months compared to the control group, 55.2% against 38.8% (p = 0.002). The main reason produced by most mothers who ceased to exclusively breastfeed their babies is milk insufficiency. Conclusion: The postnatal nutritional education strategy based on the distribution of educational materials has considerably raised the number of women who exclusively breastfed their babies until the age of six months.

West Syndrome Secondary to Biotinidase Deficiency about a Case

Biotinidase deficiency is an abnormality of biotin metabolism which is manifested by neurological, cutaneous, ophthalmological and auditory signs. It has been described as a cause of West syndrome, but there are few observations that report an association between these latter two. We report the observation of an 18-month old infant born from a first-degree consanguineous marriage, followed since the age of 2 months and half for West syndrome associated with alopecia, also an eczema and deafness in whom the etiological investigation was in favor of a biotinidase deficiency. Thus treatment with biotin resulted in a marked clinical improvement.

Lipomas of the gastrointestinal tract are rare;gastric lipomas account for only 5% of all gastrointestinal lipomas. Although they are usually asymptomatic and detected incidentally, severe symptoms can occur with larger lesions, such as bleeding, abdominal pain or obstruction. Currently, accurate diagnosis of gastric lipoma can be reached with a combination of endoscopic and imaging diagnostic techniques, which constitutes a very useful precondition in choosing an appropriate management. We report a new case of a gastric lipoma diagnosed via abdominal CT scan and endoscopic ultrasound in a 63-year-old woman. Through this observation the authors discuss the contribution of morphological examinations in this disease whose diagnosis was made in the past on surgical specimen.

Hydrological Modeling of Aguibat Ezziar Watershed (Morocco), Comparative Study of Two Different Hydrological Models

This study aims to compare the performance of two hydrological models, conceptual (HEC-HMS) and spatial (ATHYS) on the Aguibat Ezziar watershed. The comparative analysis is based on the performances of simulation in terms of Nash-Sutcliffe and RSR. The study requires the collection of a series of data as inputs models namely rainfall data, water quantity, soil occupation, DTM and requires also a calibration in order to evaluate these models in validation phase. The simulation results were obtained from the validation phase aiming to replicate the operation of watershed Aguibat Ezziar, and present a suitable adjustment perspective of the observed hydrograph. These results show that the objective is achieved and a model distributed like ATHYS plays an effective role to improve the efficiency and present a high advantage in anticipation of runoff volume comparing with other models.

Landforms Evolution of Wadi Qudaid Area, West Central Arabian Shield, Saudi Arabia: An Example of the Role of the Geological Factors in the Urban Extensions

Wadi Qudaid is located in the west central part of Saudi Arabia. It about 135 km to the northeast of Jeddah city along Al Haramein highway and it represents the upstream of the very large alluvial plain along the Red Sea coast. It runs in NE direction parallel to many wadis of the west central part of Saudi Arabia i.e. Wadi Fatima, wadi Sitarah. The wadi floor is filled by Quaternary deposits which represent good groundwater aquifer. Geologically, the present-day residual landforms of Wadi Qudaid are composed mainly of Precambrian Arabia shield rocks overlained by Tertiary sedimentary rocks and finally harrat (Tertiary volcanic). The Precambrian rocks are represented by 1) a lower layered basic and intermediate volcanic and the intercalated volcaniclastics. This unit is correlatable with Samran Group, 2) an upper layered acidic volcanic and the intercalated acidic volcaniclastics. The Arabian shield rocks are intensively folded and dragged along the major NE faults. They are directly overlain by Tertiary basic volcanic (harrat) and the related volcanoclastic red beds). The main geomorphologic elements of the study area include plateau, scarps, and the wadi floor. The plateau is represented by the black basaltic sheet that contains some semi-rounded depressions filled with Quaternary eolian sands. The scarps of the main wadi and its tributaries are nearly steep and contain many asphaltic roads with some isolated cone hills detached from the scarps. Pantoea SPP: A New Nosocomial Infection in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Pantoea SPP is a gram-negative bacillus, which usually colonizes plants, soil and water. This pathogen very rarely causes neonatal sepsis. The most common infections caused by Pantoea SPP are septic arthritis or synovitis, meningitis frequently complicated by brain abscess, upper respiratory infections, and peritonitis. We present the case of a premature infant who presented neonatal respiratory distress and whose evolution was complicated by the occurrence of a nosocomial infection for which a blood culture was performed isolating the germ Pantoea SPP. The patient’s management was initially centered on non-invasive ventilation with antibiotherapy based on carbapenem and aminoglycoside. Due to the clinical and biological worsening, the neonate was intubated and sedated and put on colymicin. The evolution was unfavorable marked by a death at 16th days of life. Considering the high pathogenicity of this germ and its multi-resistance to antibiotics, it is crucial to know the clinical spectrum of Panteoa SPP infections in neonatal intensive care units, in order to palliate the fulminant evolution of multifocal attacks due to this germ.

Epidemic to Different Strains of SERRATIA: Experience of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: About 30 Cases

Serratia is an opportunistic pathogenic bacterium of the Enterobacteriaceae family, occasionally responsible for epidemics of nosocomial infections in critical departments;in particular in neonatal intensive care units Enterobacteriaceae form a large family of Gram-negative bacteria, which cause diseases of highly variable severity, due to distinct pathogenic mechanisms. This family is heterogeneous as it consists of about 30 genera of bacteria and more than 100 species. However, all these germs have in common their preferential location in the digestive system, some being part of the normal flora although they are also present in the environment. Several metabolic processes characterize this bacterial family. These include the ability to reduce nitrate to nitrite (for energy generation), ferment glucose, lack cytochrome oxidase, be aerobic or anaerobic, motile or immobile, … Enterobacteriaceae constitute more than 80% of the germs isolated in the laboratory: Escherichia, Salmonella, Shigella, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, Proteus, Morganella and Yersinia are the rods most often found. Regarding nosocomial infection to Serratia, this bacterium colonizes the respiratory, digestive and urinary systems of patients, mainly responsible for bacteremia, infections of the lower respiratory tract, urinary and skin infections. Through our work, we report the epidemic experienced in the neonatal intensive care unit mohammed VI university hospital, mother-child hospital MARRAKECH MOROCCO for three months from December at February 2023 interesting 30 newborns whose clinical presentation was different, the positive diagnosis was based on blood and geographical samples taken by the bacteriology department to isolate the offending germs, the therapeutic management of our patients consisted essentially of various hygiene measures in association with dual antibiotic therapy based on meropenem and amikacin. Objective:To describe the various options available for preserving female and/or male fertility,taking into account both social and medical aspects,and to identify the effects of different natural products on male infertility extracted from ***:We reviewed the literature and included full-text publications in English provided by international biomedical databases,including Sciences Direct,Google Scholar,OVID,PubMed,and MEDLINE between 2016 and *** terms,such as fertility preservation,in vitro maturation,cryopreservation,plants for the treatment of male infertility,were taken from Medical Subject Headings(MeSH)and Boolean operators were used to improve ***:112 papers were identified in the initial search,of which 18 were excluded due to *** reviewing titles and abstracts,70 papers were finally *** main findings of this study are presented under three key themes:gametogenesis,fertility preservation techniques,and plant-based *** gametogenesis,significant progress has been made in understanding oocyte and sperm maturation,with optimized conditions improving maturation rates and *** fertility preservation,techniques such as rescue in vitro maturation and cryopreservation have shown the enhanced outcomes,particularly in maintaining gamete ***,plant-based alternatives,including extracts and essential oils,have demonstrated potential in reducing oxidative stress,improving sperm motility,and supporting oocyte development,thus providing a promising complementary approach to conventional ***:Fertility preservation is achieved in a variety of ways,including oocyte and embryo vitrification and sperm cryopreservation,and the use of plant-based treatment of male infertility.

Rectal Endometriosis Revealed by a Colonic Tumor Obstruction: A Case Report

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue that is located outside the uterine cavity, associated with fibrosis and inflammatory reaction. The most common atypical locations are the gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, lung, as well as abdominal surgical scars. Its diagnosis is still very difficult, especially when it manifests itself as an acute large bowel obstruction. We report the rare case of a 41-year-old patient diagnosed with acute colonic obstruction following a rectal tumor. She had undergone colonostomy even though colonoscopy biopsies were nonspecific, and a computed tomography (CT) scan was requested. It showed an adnexal heterogenous mass, therefore the patient had a laparotomy and a subtotal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and a biopsy of the recto-colonic hinge. Histologic examination revealed a diagnosis of rectal endometriosis. The purpose of this work is to report a rare case of colonic endometriosis responsible for an acute large bowel obstruction.

Vitamin E is one of the most important lipid-soluble antioxidants. It is essential for the neurological function but its role in the central nervous system has not fully been elucidated. It is known that tocopherol acts in protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage and it can act as an anti-in?ammatory agent, which may also be neuroprotective, as well as regulating speci?c enzymes. There is growing evidence that oxidative stress plays a key role in the pathophysiology of several neurodegenerative disorders. These diseases are defined by the progressive loss of speci?c neuronal cell populations and are associated with protein aggregates. We reviewed some aspects related to the role of antioxidant properties of Vitamin E in preventing and/or curing neurodegenerative disorders such as the Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ataxia, tardive dyskinesia and Huntington’s disease.
