Evaluation of the Above-Ground Biomass of Steppe Ecosystems According to Their Stage of Degradation: Case of the Area of Ain Skhouna (Western Algeria)

The steppe in the region of Ain Skhouna (Department of Saida) includes three major vegetation types: Stipa tenacissima, Artemisia herba alba and Lygeum spartum. They have a very important ecological and socio-economic role. Nevertheless, they are exposed to a threat of deterioration due essentially to a combination of adverse climate circumstances and human impact. In the field, we found three physiognomic stages for each type of vegetation: degraded, moderately degraded and well growing. For a better comprehension of the process of each facies, we considered that the dynamic of the above-ground biomass is an interesting indicator for quantifying the degree of degradation of the steppic ecosystems. For that, we have adopted a combined method: linear transects and vegetation harvests over a one-square meter surface. This approach allowed us to identify the chosen site taxa on the one hand and quantify the above-ground biomass of each plot on the other hand. The obtained results reveal a significant regression of the above-ground biomass when moving from one site to another. The values about the Stipa formations present an average biomass oscillating between 1024 and 271.7 kg DM/ha for perennial species and between 367 and 68.8 kg DM/ha for annuals. Those about Artemisia formations fluctuate between 3584 and 805 kg DM/ha for perennials and between 524 and 66 kg DM/ha for annuals. Those about Lygeum formations oscillate between 274.4 and 87.9 kg DM/ha for perennial species accompanying Lygeum spartum and between 162.3 and 31.6 kg DM/ha for annuals.

Global energy demand,which is largely based on fossil fuels,is expected to increase *** effort must be made to mitigate carbon emissions and climate change to ensure sustainable and clean *** recent years,the increasing share of renewable energy and energy-storage systems,the development of electric vehicles(EVs),promotion of energy efficiency and demand-side management(DSM)have become today’s solution *** microgrid(MG),which involves the interconnection of several generation and storage units capable of operating locally with or without connection to the power grid,is also a very useful emerging *** study allowed the experimental operation and performance analysis of a grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)/battery/EV MG hybrid system,which was used for maximizing PV self-consumption and DSM *** entire MG consisting of two subsystems(polycrystalline PV array of 2.16 kWp for Subsystem 1,monocrystalline PV system of 2.4 kWp for Subsystem 2,EV with lithium-ion battery capacity of 6.1 kWh)was installed under outdoor conditions at the University Institute of Technology in Mulhouse,France in August *** operation and behaviour of the system components,including the inverter,batteries and power grid,were analysed in both scenarios with and without EV *** results shows that the total cumulative energy injected into the grid during the entire system operating cycle is estimated to be 3466.82 and 5836.58 kWh for Subsystems 1 and 2,respect*** addition,the energy produced by Subsystem 2 during its lifetime and the emissions emitted are respectively estimated at 5597.65 kWh and 4.17 *** other results in terms of PV output power,energy yield,feed-in power and self-consumed energy were quantified and analysed in detail.

Investigations on the Optimization of Contacts Barrier Height for the Improved Performance of ZnO/CdS/CZTS Solar Cells

The numerical simulations were performed using the AMPS-1D simulator to study the effects of the CZTS as an absorber layer and the contacts’barrier height on the performance of four ZnO/CdS/CZTS solar *** obtain the best cell performances,the barrier heights of the back and front contacts were adjusted between 0.01,0.77,0.5,and 1.55 eV,*** simulations,we used the lifetime mode,and the device performances were evaluated under AM1.5 illumination *** found that the efficiency,fill factor,and open-circuit voltage were almost constant at a front contact barrier height of less than 0.31 *** short-current density was not affected by the front contact barrier *** back contact material had a significant impact on the CZTS cells *** best performance was obtained for the CZTS550 cell with JSC=29.53 mA/cm2,VOC=1.07 V,FF=0.88,andη=28.08%at barrier heights of 0.31 and 1.55 eV for front and back contacts,*** conduction band offset at the CZTS550/CdS hetero-junction was found to be spike-like with 0.21 *** obtained conversion efficiency is comparable to those previously reported in the literature.

Sirtuins and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Mammalian sirtuins are seven members belonging to the silent information regulator 2 family, a group of Class Ⅲ histone/protein deacetylases. Sirtuins(SIRT 1-7) have different subcellular localization and function and they regulate cellular protein function through various posttranslational modifications. SIRT1 and 3, the most studied sirtuins, use the product of cellular metabolism nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide as a cofactor to post-translationally deacetylate cellular proteins and consequently link the metabolic status of the cell to protein function. Sirtuins have been shown to play a key role in the development and rescue of various metabolic diseases including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD). NAFLD is currently the most chronic liver disease due mainly to high-calorie consumption and lower physical activity. No pharmacological approach is available to treat NAFLD, the current recommended treatment are lifestyle modification such as weight loss through calorie restriction and exercise. Recent studies have shown downregulation of sirtuins in human as well as animal models of NAFLD indicating an important role of sirtuins in the dynamic pathophysiology of NAFLD. In this review, we highlight the recent knowledge on sirtuins, their role in NAFLD and their unique potential role as novel therapeutic target for NAFLD treatment.

Non linear modeling of three-dimensional reinforced and fiber concrete structures

Under the effect of the ascending loading, the behavior of reinforced concrete structures is rather non linear. Research in industry and science aims to extend forward the use of non-linear calculation of fiber concrete for structural parts such as columns, veils and pious, as the fiber concrete is more ductile behavior then the classical concrete behavior. The formulation of the element has been established for modeling the nonlinear behavior of elastic structures in three dimensions, based on the displacement method. For the behavior of concrete and fiber concrete compressive and tensile strength (stress-strain) the uniaxial formulation is used. For steel bi-linear relationship is used. The approach is based on the discretization of the cross section trapezoidal tables. Forming the stiffness matrix of the section, the integral of the surface is calculated as the sum of the integrals on each of the cutting trapezoids. To integrate on the trapeze we have adopted the type of Simpson integration scheme.

Quantum Secret Sharing with Error Correction

We investigate in this work a quantum error correction on a five-qubits graph state used for secret sharing through five noisy channels. We describe the procedure for the five, seven and nine qubits codes. It is known that the three codes always allow error recovery if only one among the sent qubits is disturbed in the transmitting channel. However, if two qubits and more are disturbed, then the correction will depend on the used code. We compare in this paper the three codes by computing the average fidelity between the sent secret and that measured by the receivers. We will treat the case where, at most, two qubits are affected in each one of five depolarizing channels.

Eigenproblem for p-Laplacian and Nonlinear Elliptic Equation with Nonlinear Boundary Conditions

In this article, we study the solvability of nonlinear problem for p-Laplacian with nonlinear boundary conditions. We give some characterization of the first eigenvalue of an intermediary eigenvalne problem as simplicity, isolation and its strict monotonicity. Afterward, we character also the second eigenvalue and its strictly partial monotony. On the other hand, in some sense, we establish the non-resonance below the first and furthermore between the first and second eigenvalues of nonlinear Steklov-Robin.

2 GeV Electron Beam Irradiation Effects in Advanced Metallic Glasses

Six amorphous alloys (Alloy 1: Fe56Co24Nb4B13Si2Cu1, Alloy 2: Fe68.5Co5Nb3Cu1Si15.5B7, Alloy 3: Fe75.3Ni0.8Cr0.9Si8.7B14.3, Alloy 4: Fe56Co24Cr10Nb4B3Si1Cu2, Alloy 5: Fe72.9Nb3Cu1Si16.2B6.9, Alloy 6: Fe83.3Si8.6Nb5.5B1.4Cu1.2) were selected in terms of their composition and magnetostriction constants and uniformly irradiated in a high radiation environment in Hall A of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The 2 GeV electron beam irradiation-induced effects were characterized by Mӧssbauer spectroscopy. The microstructural changes were related to the evolution of the hyperfine magnetic field distributions and isomer shifts. In particular, the occurrence of stress centers in the amorphous materials was evidenced.

A Piecewise Switched Linear Approach for Traffic Flow Modeling

Traffic modeling is a key step in several intelligent transportation systems（ITS） applications. This paper regards the traffic modeling through the enhancement of the cell transmission model. It considers the traffic flow as a hybrid dynamic system and proposes a piecewise switched linear traffic model. The latter allows an accurate modeling of the traffic flow in a given section by considering its geometry. On the other hand, the piecewise switched linear traffic model handles more than one congestion wave and has the advantage to be modular. The measurements at upstream and downstream boundaries are also used in this model in order to decouple the traffic flow dynamics of successive road portions. Finally, real magnetic sensor data, provided by the performance measurement system on a portion of the Californian SR60-E highway are used to validate the proposed model.

Competitive Contribution of Catalyst and Adsorption Roles of TiO_2 on the Degradation of AO7 Dye During Plasma Treatment

In order to investigate the role of TiO2 during plasma treatment, the degradation of the dye AO7 has been studied by gliding arc discharge in the presence of a TiO2 catalyst （CGAD）. The results revealed that the adsorption of the dye on TiO2 is a physical adsorption in accordance with Langmuir isotherm, with a constant of adsorption KL ： 0.52 mg/L and a maximum adsorption capacity b = 18.1 mg/g. The temperature variation of the reaction medium made it possible to consider thermodynamic parameters. Indeed, the adsorption is exothermic （enthalpy： △H 〈 0）, and spontaneous （free enthalpy： △G 〈 0）. The negative entropy （△S 〈 0） confirms the affinity of the dye molecules for TiO2. 20 min of CGAD treatment in the pres- ence of an optimal quantity of TiO2 （2 g/L enabled us to bleach the solution of AO7 （100 μM） completely. The discoloration rate with and without the addition of TiO2 was 100% and 28%, respectively. 40 additional minutes of treatment allowed a total abatement of the chemical oxy- gen demand. The elimination of AO7 molecules during the plasma-catalytic treatment follows Langmuir-Hinshelwood （L-H） model kinetics. According to this model, the speed constant is kr = 14.97 mg-L-1 ·min-1 and the adsorption coefficient is KL-H= 0.010 L/mg. The latter being negligible compared to kr, adsorption is therefore weakly performed during the plasma treatment.
