Vegetative Compatibility and Virulence Diversity of Verticillium dahliae from Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) Plantations in Turkey and Evaluation of Okra Landraces for Resistance to V. dahliae

Forty-four *** isolates were collected from symptomatic vascular tissues of okra plants each from a different field in eight provinces located in the eastern mediterranean and western Anatolia regions of Turkey during ***-nonutilizing(nit)mutants of *** from okra were used to determine heterokaryosis and genetic relatedness among *** isolates from okra plants were grouped into two vegetative compatibility groups(VCGs)(1 and 2)and three subgroups as 1A(13.6%,6/44),2A(20.5%,9/44)and 2B(65.9%,29/44)according to international *** tests were performed on a susceptible local okra(***)landrace in greenhouse *** isolates from VCG1A and VCG2B induced defoliation(D)and partial defoliation(PD)symptoms,*** isolates from VCG2A gave rise to typical leaf chlorosis symptoms without *** obtained data showed that the virulence level of *** isolates from okra was related to their VCG *** okra landraces from diverse geographical origins were screened for resistance to VCG2B and VCG1A of *** results indicated that all landraces were more susceptible to highly virulent VCG1A-D pathotype displaying D or PD symptoms depending on their susceptibility levels with a mean disease severity index of 3.52 than to less virulent VCG2B-PD pathotype of *** displaying PD and ND symptoms with a mean disease severity index of *** differences were observed among the landraces;however,none of them exhibited a level of *** landraces;Çorum,Hatay Has and Sanlıurfa displayed the lowest level of susceptibility or little tolerance to both D and PD ***2B of PD was prevailing in the surveyed areas and VCG1A of D was the most virulent of the VCGs *** of resistant genotypes to Turkish okra germplasm from different sources and breeding new resistant okra cultivars are critical for the sustainability of okra production.

The single-station microtremor method is one of the fastest,most reliable,and cheapest methods used to identify dynamic soil *** study utilizes 49 single-station microtremor measurements to identify the dynamic soil properties of the Hilalkent quarter of the Yakutiye district in *** dominant frequency and the amplification factor were calculated by using the Nakamura horizontal/vertical spectral ratio(H/V)*** the soil dominant frequency values varied between 0.4 Hz and 10 Hz,the soil amplification factor changed between 1 and *** H/V values were acquired with lower frequency *** vulnerability index(K_(g))and shear strain parameters that are utilized to estimate the damage that may be caused by an earthquake were *** in the west side of the study area,higher K_(g) values were *** shear strain map was created with 0.25 g,0.50 g and 0.75 g bedrock accelerations,and soil types that lost elasticity during an earthquake were *** average shear wave velocity for the first 30 m(V_(s30))was ***,it was observed that the western part of the study area,which resulted in a higher period and higher H/V,higher K_(g) and lower V_(s30) values,presents a higher risk of damage during an earthquake.

Prediction of the undrained shear strength of remolded soil with non-linear regression,fuzzy logic,and artificial neural network

This study aims to predict the undrained shear strength of remolded soil samples using non-linear regression analyses,fuzzy logic,and artificial neural network modeling.A total of 1306 undrained shear strength results from 230 different remolded soil test settings reported in 21 publications were collected,utilizing six different measurement *** water content,plastic limit,and liquid limit were used as input parameters for fuzzy logic and artificial neural network modeling,liquidity index or water content ratio was considered as an input parameter for non-linear regression *** non-linear regression analyses,12 different regression equations were derived for the prediction of undrained shear strength of remolded ***-Forward backpropagation and the TANSIG transfer function were used for artificial neural network modeling,while the mamdani inference system was preferred with trapezoidal and triangular membership functions for fuzzy logic *** experimental results of 914 tests were used for training of the artificial neural network models,196 for validation and 196 for *** was observed that the accuracy of the artificial neural network and fuzzy logic modeling was higher than that of the non-linear regression ***,a simple and reliable regression equation was proposed for assessments of undrained shear strength values with higher coefficients of determination.

Late corneal ectasia after penetrating and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty for keratoconus

Fruit Yield and Quality, and Irrigation Water Use Efficiency of Summer Squash Drip-Irrigated with Different Irrigation Quantities in a Semi-Arid Agricultural Area

Fruit yield, yield components, fruit mineral content, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and irrigation water use efifciency （IWUE） of summer squash responses to different irrigation quantities were evaluated with a ifeld study. Irrigations were done when the total evaporated water from a Class A pan was about 30 mm. Different irrigation quantities were adjusted using three different plant-pan coefifcients （Kcp, 100% （Kcp1）, 85% （Kcp2） and 70% （Kcp3））. Results indicated that lower irrigation quantities provided statistically lower yield and yield components. The highest seasonal fruit yield （80.0 t ha-1） was determined in the Kcp1 treatment, which applied the highest volume of irrigation water （452.9 mm）. The highest early fruit yield, average fruit weight and fruit diameter, length and number per plant were also determined in the Kcp1 treatment, with values of 7.25 t ha-1, 264.1 g, 5.49 cm, 19.95 cm and 10.92, respectively. Although the IWUE value was the highest in the Kcp1 treatment （176.6 kg ha-1 mm-1）, it was statistically similar to the value for Kcp3 treatment （157.1 kg ha-1 mm-1）. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of fruits was higher in the Kcp1 （44.27 μg gallic acid equivalents （GAE） mg-1 fresh sample） and in the Kcp2 （84.75%） treatments, respectively. major （Na, N, P, K, Ca, mg and S） and trace （Fe, Cu, mn, Zn and B） mineral contents of squash fruits were the highest in the Kcp2 treatment, with the exception of P, Ca and Cu. mineral contents and total phenolic content were signiifcantly affected by irrigation quantities, but antioxidant activity was not affected. It can be concluded that the Kcp1 treatment was the most suitable for achieving higher yield and IWUE. However, the Kcp2 treatment will be the most suitable due to the high fruit quality and relatively high yield in water shortage conditions.

H pylori infection and other risk factors associated with peptic ulcers in Turkish patients: A retrospective study

AIm: To identify and evaluate the relative impact of H pylori infection and other risk factors on the occurrence of gastric ulcer (GU), duodenal ulcer (DU) and gastritis in Turkish patients. mETHODS: A total of 4471 patients (48.3% female) out of 4863 attended the Samatya hospital in Istanbul (June 1999 - October 2003) were included. The records of H pylori status (CLO-test), endoscopic f indings of GU, DU and gastritis, personal habits (smoking, alcohol intake) and medication [non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin intake] were analyzed using multi-way frequency analysis. RESULTS: We have found that GU in the presence of H pylori had significant association with aspirin (P = 0.0001), alcohol (P = 0.0090) and NSAIDs (P = 0.0372). DU on the other hand had significant association with aspirin/ smoking/NSAIDs (P = 0.0259), aspirin/alcohol (P = 0.0002) and aspirin/smoking (P = 0.0233), also in the presence of H pylori. In the absence of H pylori GU had significant association with alcohol/NSAIDs (P = 0.0431), and NSAIDs (P = 0.0436). While DU in the absence of H pylori had significant association with smoking/alcohol/ NSAIDs (P = 0.0013), aspirin/NSAIDs (P = 0.0334), aspirin/alcohol (P = 0.0360). CONCLUSION: In the presence of H pylori, aspirin, alcohol and NSAIDs intake act as an independent risk factors that had an augmenting impact on the occurrence of GU and only together on the occurrence of DU in Turkish patients.

Aim:The purpose of the present study was to perform a comprehensive analysis of WT1 gene expression in high-risk pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL).methods:We performed a meta-analysis of WT1 gene expression for normal hematopoietic cells *** leukemia cells from 801 pediatric ALL samples deposited in the Oncomine database combined with an in-depth gene expression analysis using our in-house database of gene expression profiles of primary leukemia cells from 1416 pediatric ALL *** also examined the expression of WT1 in primary leukemic cells from 299 T-lineage ALL patients in the Oncomine database and 189 T-lineage ALL patients in the archived datasets GSE13159,GSE13351,and ***:Our data provide unprecedented evidence that primary leukemia cells from patients with mLL gene rearrangements(mLL-R)express highest levels of WT1 expression within the high-risk subsets of pediatric B-lineage ***,mLL-R^(+)patients exhibited>6-fold higher expression levels of the WT1 gene compared to the other B-lineage ALL subtypes combined(PmLL-R^(+)infant B-lineage ALL cases uniquely demonstrated that WT1 is expressed at 1.5-4.2-fold higher levels in mLL-R^(+)infant leukemia cells than in normal hematopoietic cells and revealed that WT1 expression level was substantially higher in steroid-resistant infant leukemia cells when compared to non-leukemic healthy bone marrow ***,our study demonstrates for the first time that the WT1-regulated EWSR1,TP53,U2AF2,and WTAP genes(i.e.,WT1 interactome)were differentially upregulated in mLL-R^(+)leukemia cells illustrating that the mLL-regulatory pathway is aberrantly upregulated in mLL-R^(+)pediatric B-lineage *** novel insights provide a compelling rationale for targeting WT1 in second line treatment of mLL-R^(+)pediatric B-lineage ALL,including mLL-R^(+)infant ***,our study is the first to demonstrate that leukemia cells from 370 Ph-like patients had
