Background:Vascular access used for pediatric cardiac catheterization is one of the most important factors that affects the success of the *** aimed to compare the effect,success,and complications of cardiac catheterizations performed by carotid cut-down or femoral puncture in newborns or young ***:We included who underwent catheterization in our department between 28 January 2017 and 15 April *** patients underwent balloon aortic valvuloplasty,balloon coarctation angioplasty,ductal stenting,diagnostic procedures for aortic arch pathologies,and modified Blalock-Taussig in-shunt *** were divided into two groups:femoral puncture(group=1)and carotid cut-down(CC,group=2).Results:Seventy-two catheterization procedures were performed in 64 patients;32(44.4%)were performed via the femoral approach and 40(55.6%)were performed via the carotid ***(22.2%)procedures were diagnostic and 56(77.8%)procedures were *** was performed in 13(32.5%)patients with failed femoral *** in the CC group had shorter durations of procedure,vascular access,and anesthesia,compared with the femoral access group(80.9 and 116.2 min,p=0.001;12.9 and 22.5 min,p=0.001;140.9 and 166.6 min,p=0.001,respectively).Patients who underwent CC had fewer complications than did patients in the femoral access group(2.5%and 21.8%,respectively;p=0.01);larger sheats were used in CC patients(p=0.028).Conclusion:The carotid artery can be successfully used as a primary catheterization route,particularly in patients with small body weight and patients who require rapid vascular access,or stenting of the vertical duct.

AIM:To evaluate the clinical use of Fourier analysis of videokeratography data in the diagnosis and follow-up of keratoconus(KC).METHODS:We conducted a chart review of consecutive patients presented to our cornea clinic.A team of two experienced cornea specialists divided the patients into three groups:normal cornea,forme fruste KC(FFKC),and clinical *** exclusion criteria were a history of previous ocular surgery,any accompanying corneal pathology other than KC,high myopia(>6.00 diopters),amblyopia,pregnancy,breastfeeding,or any current autoimmune *** data of Fourier series harmonic analysis were evaluated for their diagnostic capacity using the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve.A binary logistic regression analysis was also conducted to construct a diagnostic model.A total of 259 eyes showed progression in the clinical KC group and underwent a combination of accelerated corneal collagen cross-linking and topographyguided customized treatment with an excimer ***:The study included 1262 eyes(618 normal,530 KC,and 114 FFKC)of 1262 *** observed that maximum decentration(MaxDec)was almost as good as maximum keratometry(Kmax)in detecting progressive *** area under the curve(AUC)was 0.95 for KC[95%confidence interval(CI):0.93-0.96]and 0.84 for FFKC(95%CI:0.79-0.88).Higher predictive accuracy was obtained using a model combining the spherical component,MaxDec,irregularity,and regular astigmatism in the center of the cornea(AUC:0.97;sensitivity:89%,and specificity:96%).CONCLUSION:Decentration,Kmax,and posterior radii of curvatures from a 3.0-mm optical zone centered on the thinnest point of the cornea provide the highest accuracy with low reproducibility of Kmax.

Carbon dioxide-abated hydrogen can be synthesised via various processes,one of which is sorption enhanced steam methane reforming(SE-SMR),which produces separated streams of high purity H_(2) and CO_(2).Properties of hydrogen and the sorbent material hinder the ability to rapidly upscale SE-SMR,therefore the use of artificial intelligence models is useful in order to assist scale *** of a data driven soft-sensor model over ther-modynamic simulations,is the ability to obtain real time information dependent on actual process *** this study,two soft sensor models have been developed and used to predict and estimate variables that would otherwise be difficult direct *** artificial neural networks and the random forest models were devel-oped as soft sensor prediction *** were shown to provide good predictions for gas concentrations in the reformer and regenerator reactors of the SE-SMR process using temperature,pressure,steam to carbon ratio and sorbent to carbon ratio as input process *** models were very accurate with high R^(2) values,all above 98%.However,the random forest model was more precise in the predictions,with consistently higher R^(2) values and lower mean absolute error(0.002-0.014)compared to the neural network model(0.005-0.024).

AIM： To investigate the effects of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor （G-CSF） on peritoneal defense mechanisms and bacterial translocation after systemic 5-Fluorouracil （5-FU） administration. METHODS： Thirty Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups; the control, 5-FU and 5-FU ＋ G-CSF groups. We measured bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid, phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid, total peritoneal cell counts and cell types of peritoneal washing fluid. Bacterial translocation was quantified by mesenteric lymph node, liver and spleen tissue cultures. RESULTS： Systemic 5-FU reduced total peritoneal cell counts, neutrophUs and macrophage numbers. It also altered bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. 5-FU also caused significant increase in frequencies of bacterial translocation at the liver and mesenteric lymph nodes. G-CSF decreased bacterial translocation, it significantly enhanced bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. It also increased total peritoneal cell counts, neutrophils and macrophage numbers. CONCLUSION： Systemic 5-FU administration caused bacterial translocation, decreased the bactericidal activity of peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid. G-CSF increased both bactericidal activity of the peritoneal fluid and phagocytic activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes in the peritoneal fluid, and prevented the bacterial translocation. We conclude that intraperitoneal GCSF administration protects the effects of systemic 5-FU on peritoneal defense mechanisms.

The ground state hydrogen conformations and vibrational analysis of 3-deazauracil(3DAU)and 6-azauracil(6AU)tautomers(4-enol and 2,4-diol forms)have been calculated using ab initio Hartree-Fock(HF)and density functional theory(B3LYP)methods with 6-311++G(d,p)basis set *** calculations have shown that the most probably preferential tautomer of 3DAU and 6AU are the 4-enol form,which gives best fit to the corresponding experimental *** ground state conformer of the 2,4-diol form has two O—H bonds which are oriented externally and internally(to the N—H bond).The vibrational analyses of the ground state conformer of each tautomeric form of 3DAU and 6AU were done and their optimized geometry parameters(bond lengths and bond angles)were ***,from the correlations values it was concluded that the B3LYP method is superior to the HF method for both the vibrational frequencies and the geometric parameters.

AIM： To investigate the role of second-look laparoscopy in patients with acute mesenteric ischemia （AMI）. METHODS： Between January 2000 and November 2005, 71 patients were operated for the treatment of AMI. The indications for a second-look were low flow state, bowel resection and anastomosis or mesenteric thromboembolectomy performed during the first operation. Regardless of the clinical course of patients, the second-look laparoscopic examination was performed 72 h post-operatively at the bed side in the ICU or operating room. RESULTS： The average time of admission to the hospital after the initation of syrnptoms was 3 d （range, 5 h-9 d）. In 14 patients, laparotomy was performed. In 11 patients, small and/or large bowel necrosis was detected and initial resection and anastomosis were conducted. A low flow state was observed in two patients and superior mesenteric artery thromboembolectomy with small bowel resection was performed in one patient. In 13 patients, a second-look laparoscopic examination revealed normal bowel viability, but in one patient, intestinal necrosis was detected. In two of the patients, a third operation was necessary to correct anastomotic leakage. The overall complication rate was 42.8%, and in-hospital mortality rate was 57.1% （n = 6）. CONCLUSION： Second-look laparoscopy is a minimally invasive, technically simple procedure that is performed for diagnostic as well as therapeutic purposes. The simplicity and ease of this method may encourage wider application to benefit more patients. However, the timing of a second-look procedure is unclear particularly in a patient with anastomosis.
