Background: Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy occurs typicallly after an intrinsic adrenergic hyperstimulation triggered by a psychological or physically stressful event. Exceptionally, it may be caused by an exogenous hyperadrenergism. We report the case of an 85 year old man, hypertensive, with a history of ischemic stroke. He consulted for signs of heart failure with recurrent dizziness two weeks which was explained by an atrioventricular block. Initial echocardiography showed left ventricular ejection fraction to 60% with no wall motion abnormalities. The patient received iso-prenaline (0.02 mcg/kg/mn) for 20 hours before the implantation of a single chamber pacemaker. At 24 hours of admission an acute pulmonary edema occurred. The control echocardiography showed impaired left ventricular ejection fraction of 25% with apical ballooning and akinesis was also found on ventricu-lography. Coronary angiography showed no significant coronary lesions. Troponin level was elevated to 2 ng/ml. The pulmonary edema was then controlled. Subsequent clinical and echocardiographic were favo- rable after two weeks which was consistent with the diagnosis of tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy. Conclusion: This case illustrates an example of tako-tsubo syndrome induced by an exogenous catecholergic stimulation (isoprenaline) combined with an endogenous release after a pacemaker implantation which confirmed the physiopathological hypothesis of a catecholamine-mediated stunning in tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore neuromuscular fatigue and recovery profiles im individuals with intellectual disability(ID) after exhausting submaximal ***: Ten men with ID were compared to 10 men without ID. The evaluation of neuromuscular function consisted in brief(3 s) isometric maximal voluntary contraction(IMVC) of the knee extension superimposed with electrical nerve stimulation before, immediately after, and during33 min after an exhausting submaximal isometric task at 15% of the IMVC. Force, voluntary activation level(VAL), potentiated twitch(Ptw), and electromyography(EMG) signals were measured during IMVC and then ***: Individuals with ID developed lower baseline IMVC, VAL, Ptw; and RMS/M_(max) ratio(root-mean-square value normalized to the maximal peak-to-peak amplitude of the M-wave) than controls(p < 0.05). Nevertheless, the time to task failure was significantly longer in ID vs. controls(p < 0.05). The 2 groups presented similar IMVC decline and recovery kinetics after the fatiguing exercise. However. individuals with ID presented higher VAL and RMS/M_(max) ratio declines but lower Ptw decline compared to those without ID. Moreover, individuals with ID demonstrated a persistent central fatigue but faster recovery from peripheral ***: These differences in neuromuscular fatigue profiles and recovery kinetics should be acknowledged when prescribing training programs for individuals with ID.

An experimental study was undertaken to express the hardening Swift law according to friction stir welding （FSW） aluminum alloy 2017. Tensile tests of welded joints were run in accordance with face centered composite design. Two types of identified models based on least square method and response surface method were used to assess the contribution of FSW independent factors on the hardening parameters. These models were introduced into finite-element code ＂Abaqus＂ to simulate tensile tests of welded joints. The relative average deviation criterion, between the experimental data and the numerical simulations of tension-elongation of tensile tests, shows good agreement between the experimental results and the predicted hardening models. These results can be used to perform multi-criteria optimization for carrying out specific welds or conducting numerical simulation of plastic deformation of forming process of FSW parts such as hydroforming, bending and forging.

Objective: To evaluate the predatory capacity of the Odonata, Hemianax ephippiger nymph as a biocontrol agent for the freshwater snail Lymnaea natalensis, intermediate host of Fasciola gigantica. Methods: Observations on the searching, attacking and devouring of the snails with a series of laboratory-based predation experiments, whose aims were to determine daily predation rate, differential predation on small-, medium- and large-sized snails were carried out. Results: Laboratory evaluation revealed that, the Odonata nymph could kill and consume all three sizes of snails. Searching and handling time of the predator differed depending on snail size and predator vulnerability. The predation rate varied also with respect to snail size and ***: Our observations suggested that the predator Hemianax ephippiger may be a suitable bio-control agent of Lymnaea natalensis snail population.
