Simulating long-term effect of Hyrcanian forest loss on phosphorus loading at the sub-watershed level

Conversion of forest land to farmland in the Hyrcanian forest of northern Iran increases the nutrient input, especially the phosphorus（P） nutrient, thus impacting the water quality. Modeling the effect of forest loss on surface water quality provides valuable information for forest management. This study predicts the future impacts of forest loss between 2010 and 2040 on P loading in the Tajan River watershed at the sub-watershed level. To understand drivers of the land cover, we used Land Change Modeler（LCM） combining with the Soil Water Assessment Tool（SWAT） model to simulate the impacts of land use change on P loading. We characterized priority management areas for locating comprehensive and cost-effective management practices at the sub-watershed level. Results show that agricultural expansion has led to an intense deforestation. During the future period 2010–2040, forest area is expected to decrease by 34,739 hm^2. And the areas of pasture and agriculture are expected to increase by 7668 and 27,071 hm^2, respectively. In most sub-watersheds, P pollution will be intensified with the increase in deforestation by the year 2040. And the P concentration is expected to increase from 0.08 to 2.30 mg/L in all of sub-watersheds by the year 2040. It should be noted that the phosphorous concentration exceeds the American Public Health Association′s water quality standard of 0.2 mg/L for P in drinking water in both current and future scenarios in the Tajan River watershed. Only 30% of sub-watersheds will comply with the water quality standards by the year 2040. The finding of the present study highlights the importance of conserving forest area to maintain a stable water quality.

Human resources are a key source of sustainable competitive advantage and are considered as one of the substantial factors for an organization's success.No organization can survive without its human resources.Understanding employees'needs,desires,and satisfaction is essential.Organizational managers consider financial and non-financial compensation for employees'service.There is a need for a practical look at the field of nursing service compensation,especially in the healthcare system.In this study,the factors affecting nursing service compensation in the selected private hospitals in Iran were initially identified and confirmed using the exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses.The three major factors are empowerment components,organizational components,and financial components.Then,the driver factors(causes)and dependent factors(effects)in the nursing service compensation system were investigated and their relationships were determined using the fuzzy DEMATEL technique.Finally,these factors were ranked using the best-worst(BWM)method.The results of BWM indicate that financial components gained the top-ranked,followed by organizational components,and empowerment components.

目的:探讨极低频率电磁场(extremely low-frequency electromagnetic field,ELF-EMF)对小鼠生育力和着床前期子宫与输卵管上皮细胞高度的影响。方法:80只雌性NMRI小鼠随机分为对照组和EMF组。对照组小鼠不接受EMF,EMF组小鼠接受50 Hz、0 .5 mT EMF,每次4 h,每周6次,连续2周。雌小鼠注射孕马血清促性腺激素和人绒毛膜促性腺激素促其排卵,与雄鼠交配。通过观察阴道栓形成确定小鼠妊娠后,冲洗子宫腔获得胚泡,取子宫角和输卵管组织用于光学显微镜检查。结果:EMF组小鼠平均胚泡数比对照组明显减少(P<0 .03)。光学显微镜下观察发现,EMF组小鼠输卵管上皮细胞高度较对照组明显增加,而子宫内膜上皮细胞高度与对照组比较差异无统计学意义。结论:ELF-EMF可能通过减少胚泡数目,增加输卵管上皮细胞高度而损伤雌性小鼠生育能力。

Effects of the Hydro-Alcoholic Extract of Nigella Sativa on Scopolamine-Induced Spatial Memory Impairment in Rats and Its Possible Mechanism

Objective： To evaluate the effect of Nigella sativa （NS） extract on memory performance and its possible mechanisms in scopolamine （Sco）-induced spatial memory impairment model using Morris water maze test. Methods： Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups. The control group received saline instead of both NS extract and Sco. The Sco group was treated by saline for two weeks, and was injected by Sco （2 mg/kg, intraperitoneally） 30 min before each trail in Morris water maze test. Sco＋NS 200 and SCO＋NS 400 groups were daily treated by 200 or 400 mg/kg of NS （intraperitoneally） for two weeks, respectively, and were finally injected by Sco 30 min before Morris water maze test. The brains of animals were removed to determine the acetylcholinesterase （ACHE） activity and oxidative stress criteria in cortical tissues. Results： Time latency and path length in the Sco group were significantly higher than in the control group （P〈0.01）, while the SCO＋NS 400 group showed a significantly shorter traveled path length and time latency compared with the Sco group （P〈0.01）. AChE activity in the cortical tissues of the Sco group was significantly higher than the control group （P〈0.01）, while AChE activity in the Sco＋NS 200 and Sco＋NS 400 groups was lower than the Sco group （P〈0.01）. Following Sco administration, malondialdehyde （MDA） concentrations were increased （P〈0.01） in comparison with the control group, while cortical total thiol content decreased （P〈0.01）. Pretreatment with extracts caused a significant elevation in cortical total thiol content （P〈0.01） and reduction in cortical MDA concentration （P〈0.01） compared with the Sco group. Conclusions： Hydro-alcoholic extract of NS prevents Sco-induced spatial memory deficits and decreases the AChE activity as well as oxidative stress of brain tissues in rats. Our results support the traditional belief about the beneficial effects of NS in nervous system. Moreover, further investigations are needed for better understanding of this protective effect.

Numerical Modelling of the Powder Metallurgical Manufacturing Chain of High Strength Sintered Gears

This paper presents a digital model for the powder metallurgical(PM)production chain of high-performance sintered gears based on an integrated computational materials engineering(ICME)platform.Discrete and finite element methods(DEM and FEM)were combined to describe the macroscopic material response to the thermomechanical loads and process conditions during the entire production process.The microstructural evolution during the sintering process was predicted on the meso-scale using a Monte-Carlo Model.The effective elastic properties were determined by a homogenization method based on modelling a representative volume element(RVE).The results were subsequently used for the FE modelling of the heat treatment process.Through the development of multi-scale models,it was possible obtain characteristics of the microstructural features.The predicted hardness and residual stress distributions allowed the calculation of the tooth root load bearing capacity of the heat-treated sintered gears.

Overexpression of the MDM2 oncogene and mutations in the p53 tumor suppressor commonly occur in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and are associated with increased mortality due to this disease.Inhibiting MDM2 has been demonstrated to be a valid approach for the treatment of HCC.However,most of the MDM2 inhibitors evaluated to date have been designed to block the MDM2 and p53 binding,and have limited efficacy against tumors with mutant or deficient p53.In the present study,we developed a novel MDM2 inhibitor(termed SP141)that has direct effects on MDM2 and exerts anti-HCC activity independent of the p53 status of the cancer cells.We demonstrate that SP141 inhibits cell growth and prevents cell migration and invasion,independent of p53.Mechanistically,SP141 directly binds the MDM2 protein and promotes MDM2 degradation.The inhibition of MDM2 by SP141 also increases the sensitivity of HCC cells to sorafenib.In addition,in orthotopic and patient-derived xenograft models,SP141 inhibits MDM2 expression and suppresses tumor growth and metastasis,without any host toxicity.Furthermore,the inhibition of MDM2 by SP141 is essential for its anti-HCC activities.These results provide support for the further development of SP141 as a lead candidate for the treatment of HCC.

Nailfold Capillaroscopy Findings in Diabetic Patients (A Pilot Cross-Sectional Study)

Background: Microcirculation is affected in diabetes mellitus and Microvascular abnormalities cause persistent diabetic complications. The aim of this study was nailfold capillaroscopic assessment to describe the pathological changes (morphological and structural) in capillary of a large series of patients with type 1 and 2 diabetes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in a Nailfold Capillaroscopy Center (Tehran-Iran) between 2011 and 2014. The study included 235 types 1, 2 diabetic patients. All patients underwent 10 nailfolds capillaroscopy examinations. Microvascular architecture, disturbances capillary distribution, capillary morphology, capillary density, efferent/afferent limb ratio, subpapillary venular plexus, and morphological abnormalities were evaluated. Conclusions were stated as normalor scleroderma pattern. Results of patients’ capillaroscopic images were recorded and analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. P value < 0.05 was considered as statistical significance. Results: of all participants with mean age 59.91 ± 12.39, 183 cases (77.9%) were female and 52 (22.1%) were male. Tortuosity of capillaries was more often observed in our subjects (235 cases) followed by angiogenesis (171 cases). Normal and early scleroderma patterns were observed in 195 (83.0%) and 40 cases (17.0%). Based on P values, altered micro vascular architecture, capillary distribution and capillary morphology were more frequent in patients with scleroderma pattern in comparison to patients with normal pattern (P value < 0.05). Morphological abnormalities except from neo formation capillary and mega capillary were also significantly more common in patients with scleroderma pattern than patients in counterpart group (P value < 0.05). Conclusion: Nailfold capillaroscopy as a non-invasive, diagnostic and prognostic method may potentially affect on diabetes outcome and control.

Random pulse width modulation （RPWM） technique has been employed to generate the control signals of Vienna-type rectifier. This technique is compared to two conventional techniques （Hysteresis-band and ramp comparison with fix frequency carrier signal）. Simulation results are illustrated for three approaches. The results verify significantly reduction of high frequency harmonics magnitude;and consequently overcome electromagnetic interference （EMI） problem in this active type of rectifier.
