Impact of modified electrodes on boosting power density of microbial fuel cell for effective domestic wastewater treatment:A case study of Tehran

Utilizing microbial fuel cells( MFCs) is a promising technology for energy-efficient domestic wastewater treatment,but it still faces practical barriers such as low power generation. In this study,the LaMnO_3 perovskite-type oxide nanoparticles and nickel oxide/carbon nanotube/polyaniline( NCP) nanocomposite( the cathode and anode catalysts,respectively) have been prepared and used to enhance power density of MFC. The prepared La-based perovskite oxide catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction( XRD) and scanning electron microscopies( SEM). The electrocatalytic properties of the prepared catalysts were investigated through cyclic voltammetry( CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy( EIS) and Tafel plot at ambient temperature. Results show the exchange current densities of LaMnO_3/carbon cloth cathode and NCP nanocomposite/carbon cloth anode were 1.68 and 7 times more compared to carbon cloth cathode,respectively. In comparison to the bare carbon cloth anode,the MFC with the modified electrodes shows 11 times more enhancement in power density output which according to electrochemical results,it can be due to the enhancement of the electron transfer capability. These cathodic and anodic catalysts were examined in batch and semicontinuous modes to provide conditions close to industrial conditions. This study suggests that utilizing these low cost catalysts has promising potential for wastewater treatment in MFC with high power generation and good COD removal efficiency.

Shahre-Babak ophiolite is a part of the inner Zagros ophiolite belt in Iran. Major parts of intrusive masses of Share-Babak ophiolite are gabbro and plagiogranite. The SiO2 versus Na2O＋K2O diagram shows that the palgiogranites are related to calk-alkaline series. Rare earth elements exhibit relatively similar pattern that indicates these rocks are syngenetic. Also, REE patterns display an enrichment of LREE compared to HREE, and are characterized by flat to slightly concaveup patterns from Gd to Yb. Such patterns contrast sharply with those of plagiogranites in more complete ophiolite sequences, such as the Semail ophiolite, Oman, or the Troodos ophiolite, Cyprus, and Neyriz, where patterns are much flatter and slightly LREE-depleted. The slightly LREE-enriched patterns of the Shahre-Babak plagiogranites support a partial melting origin for them. The low TiO2, Nb, Ta content and high LREE concentrations of the Shahre-Babak plagiogranites indicate that the rocks were likely derived from the anatexis of amphibolites, which were related to hydrothermal alteration of gabbros in intra-oceanic back-arc basin.

In order to strengthen pure tin and improve its dry sliding resistance, Sn/SiC and Sn/Zn composites were fabricated via a powder metallurgy route. Microstructure,hardness and pin-on-disk wear resistance of pure tin and the fabricated composites were compared to those of Sn–7.5 Sb–3.5 Cu Babbitt alloy. The dominant wear mechanism at different applied loads was determined by analyzing worn surfaces and wear debris in each case. The results showed that the hardening effect of Zn was much higher than that of SiC. The hardening role of Zn in the tin matrix was ascribed to the direct load transfer mechanism. Microscopic studies of the worn surfaces revealed that the pure tin was susceptible to surface fatigue wear and plowing damage, depending on the normal load applied during the wear test. In the case of Sn/SiC composite and the Babbitt alloy, delamination wear mechanism resulting from subsurface crack propagation controlled the wear rate. While the highest hardness and the lowest coefficient of friction were obtained for the Babbitt alloy, the Sn/Zn composite exhibited the highest wear resistance at a constant applied load, indicating the importance of asperity contact type in the wear process.

Post-synthetic functionalization or modification has been regarded as a promising strategy to treat surfaces of adsorbents for their applications in targeted adsorption and separation *** this work,a novel microporous adsorbent for carbon capturing was developed via functionalization of zeolitic imidazolate framework-91(ZIF-91)to generate a hard/hard(metal-oxygen)structure named as lithium-modified ZIF-91(ZIF-91-OLi compound).To this purpose,the ZIF-91 compound as an intermediate product was achieved by reduction of ZIF-90 in the presence of NaBH4 as a good reducing ***,acidic hydrogen atoms in the hydroxyl groups of ZIF-91 were exchanged with lithium cations via reaction of n-BuLi compound as an organo lithium agent through an appropriate *** particular,the as-synthesized ZIF-91-OLi operated as an excellent electron-rich center for CO2 adsorption through trapping the positive carbon centers in the CO2 *** calculations revealed that the presence of lithium over the surface of ZIF-91-OLi adsorbent plays an effective role in double enhancement of CO2 storage via creating a strong negative charge center at the oxygen atoms of the imidazolate linker as a result of the lithium/hydrogen exchange ***,the selectivity of CO2/N2 was investigated at different temperatures,revealing the ZIF-91-OLi as a selective adsorbent for industrial application.

In other words, a thinker nurse is a philosopher who has the ability of reasoning, critical and reflective thinking. In many investigations, the role of critical or reflective thinking is explored, but in this review article, we are trying to introduce a comprehensive concept that involves all these elements of thinking skills. It is philosophizing.

Erosion,scour and sedimentation are the most common phenomena which should be considered in the design of marine *** and oceans are dynamic environments,hence studying them in more details,gathering more information about their bathymetric changes and pursuing their historical evolution could be beneficial in the efficient design of marine structures such as:jetties,groins and *** achieve this goal one desperately needs to know about currents and waves and the effects of their interactions as well as the rate of sedimentation(Net Gain),and erosion(Net Loss)in the *** the other hand,to obtain a sufficient depth to facilitate marine traffics in the harbors the rate of sediment deposition must be calculated,offering effective annual dredging *** this research the pool of Nowshahr port and some parts to the east and west were *** transport direction was compatible with the counter-clock-wise circulation of the Sothern part of Caspian *** data,water surface elevation,and hydrographic points from the bathymetric surveys applied in the hydrodynamic module of Mike 21 and the output of the hydrodynamic module(HD)were used as inputs for sediment transport module(ST).The result of the ST module shows that the main direction considering dominant waves is from northwest of the Caspian Sea to the ***,net rate of sediment transfer is from west to *** approaching to the main breakwater arms from the west side sediment transport rate decreases which means deposition occurs behind the western arm.

This paper addresses the planning problem of residential micro combined heat and power (micro-CHP) systems (including ‎micro-generation units, auxiliary boilers, and thermal storage tanks) considering the associated technical and economic factors. Since the accurate values of the thermal and electrical loads of this system cannot be exactly predicted for the planning horizon, the thermal and electrical load uncertainties are modeled using a two-stage ‎adaptive robust optimization method based on a ‎polyhedral uncertainty set. A solution method, which is composed of column-and-constraint generation (C&CG) algorithm ‎and block coordinate descent (BCD) method, is proposed to efficiently solve this adaptive robust optimization model. Numerical results ‎from a practical case study show the effective performance of the proposed adaptive robust model for residential micro-CHP planning and its solution method.
