Experimental investigation and prediction of free fall jet scouring using machine learning models

The current study deals with the depth of scour at the location of impact between a free fall jet and a riverbed. The current study is based on extensive laboratory experiments that were designed to mimic full-scale behavior. The literature review shows that relations among hydraulic parameters for predicting the depth of scour are complex; therefore, six artificial intelligence techniques are used in the current study to capture these complex relation. A total of 120 observations are used for the analysis. Results from the experiments show that with increasing downstream water depth(h), the impinging jet causes increasingly turbulent currents and large vortices that increase the scouring of the riverbed. Increasing discharge per unit width(q) enhances the relative scour depth(D/H) while increasing the average diameter of the riverbed materials(d) decreases D/H, where D is maximum scour depth and H is the height of the falling jet. With increasing(particle Froude number Fr), the relative scour depth *** the current study the prediction accuracy of Gene Expression Programming(GEP), multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline(mARS), m5P Tree, Random Forest(RF), Random Tree(RT), and Reduces Error Pruning Tree(REP Tree) techniques are evaluated using the relative scour depth(D/(H-h)). The performance evaluation indices and graphical methods suggest that the GEP based model is more accurate than other prediction methods for the relative scour depth with a coefficient of determination(R2) equal to 0.8330 and 0.8270, a mean absolute error(mAE) equal to 0.1125 and 0.0902, root mean square error(RmSE) values of 0.1463 and 0.1116, and Willmott’s Index(WI) equal to 0.8998 and 0.9014, for the training and testing stages.

Efficient desulfurization of gasoline fuel using ionic liquid extraction as a complementary process to adsorptive desulfurization

The extractive desulfurization of a model gaso- line containing several alkyl thiols and aromatic thiophenic compounds was investigated using two imidazolium-based ionic liquids （ILs）, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroaluminate, and 1-octyl-3-methylimidazolium te- trafluoroborate, as extractants. A fractional factorial design of experiments was employed to evaluate the effects and possible interactions of several process variables. Analysis of variance tests indicated that the number of extraction steps and the IL/gasoline volume ratio were of statistically highly significant, but none of the interactions were significant. The results showed that the desulfurization efficiency of the model gasoline by the ILs could reach 95.2 % under the optimal conditions. The optimized conditions were applied to study the extraction of thiophenic compounds in model gasoline and several real gasoline samples; the following order was observed in their separation： benzothio- phenc 〉 thiophcne 〉 3-methylthiophene 〉 2-methylthiophene, with 96.1% removal efficiency for benzothiophene. The IL extraction was successfully applied as a complementary process to the adsorptive desulfurization with acti- vated Raney nickel and acetonitrile solvent. The results indicated that the adsorptive process combined with IL extraction could provide high efficiency and selectivity, which can be regarded as a promising energy efficient desulfurization strategy for production of low-sulfur gasoline.

Interacting viscous entropy-corrected holographic scalar field models of dark energy with time-varying G in modified FRW cosmology

We study the entropy-corrected version of the holographic dark energy （HDE） model in the framework of modified Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology. We consider a non-flat universe filled with an interacting viscous entropy-corrected HDE （ECHDE） with dark matter. Also included in our model is the case of the variable gravitational constant G. We obtain the equation of state and the deceleration param- eters of the interacting viscous ECHDE. moreover, we reconstruct the potential and the dynamics of the quintessence, tachyon, K-essence and dilaton scalar field models according to the evolutionary behavior of the interacting viscous ECHDE model with time-varying G.

Effects of chelating agents on the sol-gel synthesis of nano-zirconia:Comparison of the Pechini and sugar-based methods

This study focused on the comparison of the Pechini and sugar-based combustion synthesis methods to produce nano-zirconia. Zirconium hydroxide was utilized as metal precursor and citric acid, sucrose, and fructose were used as chelating agents, followed by calcination at 500, 600, and 700°C in air, respectively. Characterization was conducted by thermal analysis, specific surface area measurement, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. When sucrose and citric acid were used as chelating agents during synthesis, mixtures of monoclinic and tetragonal phases were formed after calcination at 600 and 700°C. In the fructose samples, the tetragonal structure was the unique characterized phase. The tetragonal parameters in the fructose samples were determined using the diffraction data and the lattice parameter ratio was proven to increase with the temperature increase. Compared with the citrate and sucrose samples, the largest specific surface area(27 m2·g-1) and smallest particle size(39.1 nm) were obtained for the fructose sample after calcination at 700°C. The study revealed the formation of single-phase stabilized tetragonal zirconia using fructose as chelating agent after calcination at 500°C, and the presence and formation mechanism of stabilized tetragonal phase were also discussed on the basis of the X-ray and electron diffraction studies.

Acute ankle sprain is the most common lower limb injury in athletes and accounts for 16%-40%of all sports-related *** is especially common in basketball,American football,and *** majority of sprains affect the lateral ligaments,particularly the anterior talofibular *** its high prevalence,a high proportion of patients experience persistent residual symptoms and injury recurrence.A detailed history and proper physical examination are diagnostic *** is not indicated for the majority of ankle sprain cases and should be requested according to the Ottawa ankle *** interventions have been recommended in the management of acute ankle sprains including rest,ice,compression,and elevation,analgesic and anti-inflammatory medications,bracing and immobilization,early weight-bearing and walking aids,foot orthoses,manual therapy,exercise therapy,electrophysical modalities and surgery(only in selected refractory cases).Among these interventions,exercise and bracing have been recommended with a higher level of evidence and should be incorporated in the rehabilitation *** exercise program should be comprehensive and progressive including the range of motion,stretching,strengthening,neuromuscular,proprioceptive,and sport-specific ***-making regarding return to the sport in athletes may be challenging and a sports physician should determine this based on the self-reported variables,manual tests for stability,and functional performance *** are some common myths and mistakes in the management of ankle sprains,which all clinicians should be aware of and *** include excessive imaging,unwarranted non-weightbearing,unjustified immobilization,delay in functional movements,and inadequate *** application of an evidence-based algorithmic approach considering the individual characteristics is helpful and should be recommended.

Effects of rainfall patterns on runoff and rainfall-induced erosion

Rainfall-induced erosion involves the detachment of soil particles by raindrop impact and their transport by the combined action of the shallow surface runoff and raindrop impact. Although temporal variation in rainfall intensity(pattern) during natural rainstorms is a common phenomenon, the available information is inadequate to understand its effects on runoff and rainfall-induced erosion processes. To address this issue, four simulated rainfall patterns(constant, increasing, decreasing, and increasing-decreasing) with the same total kinetic energy were designed. Two soil types(sandy and sandy loam)were subjected to simulated rainfall using 15 cm × 30 cm long detachment trays under infiltration conditions. For each simulation, runoff and sediment concentration were sampled at regular intervals. No obvious difference was observed in runoff across the two soil types, but there were significant differences in soil losses among the different rainfall patterns and stages. For varying-intensity rainfall patterns, the dominant sediment transport mechanism was not only influenced by raindrop detachment but also was affected by raindrop-induced shallow flow transport. moreover, the efficiency of equations that predict the interrill erosion rate increased when the integrated raindrop impact and surface runoff rate were applied. Although the processes of interrill erosion are complex, the findings in this study may provide useful insight for developing models that predict the effects of rainfall pattern on runoff and erosion.

The Anxiolytic and Antidepressant Effect of Stachys Lavandulifolia in the Experimental Pentylenetetrazole-Induced Rat model of Acute Seizure

The way to deal with flexible data from their stochastic presence point of view as output or input in the evaluation of efficiency of the decision-making units(DmUs)motivates new perspectives in modeling and solving data envelopment analysis(DEA)in the presence of flexible *** the orientation of flexible data is not pre-determined,and because the number of DmUs is fixed and all the DmUs are independent,flexible data can be treated as random variable in terms of both input and output *** a result,the selection of flexible variable as input or output for n DmUs can be regarded as binary random *** the randomness of choosing flexible data as input or output,we deal with DEA models in the presence of flexible data whose input or output orientation determines a binomial distribution *** study provides a new insight to classify flexible variable and investigates the input or output status of a variable using a stochastic *** proposed model obviates the problems caused by the use of the large m number and using its different values in previous *** addition,it can obtain the most appropriate efficiency value for decision-making units by assigning the chance of choosing the orientation of flexible variable to the model *** proposed method is compared with other available methods by employing numerical and empirical examples.

Surface deformation under overlapping impacts of solid particles

To improve the accuracy of erosion prediction,the effect of subsequent particles impacting the same area while the first single particle rebounds from the substrate must be *** issue has rarely been considered in studies pertaining to erosion *** the present study,the ABAQUS software is used to investigate the erosion crater morphology and stress distribution on a target material subjected to overlapping impacts of spherical ***,the validated model is applied to investigate the effect of the overlapping impacts of particles on the ***,the correlation between erosion severity and the impact locations of the two incident particles is *** results show that the horizontal distance between two solid particle impact locations can significantly affect the erosion magnitude and *** interactions of the resulting craters diminish when the horizontal distance exceeds 0.6 times the particle *** the horizontal distance is approximately 0.06 times the particle diameter,the energy loss originating from collisions reaches the maximum,which modifies the crater *** present study is expected to provide in-depth insights into erosion mechanisms and erosion modeling.

In this study,we successfully synthesized Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag nanocomposites(NCPs) using the ultrasonicmediated sol-gel technique to create a multifunctional material with enhanced photocatalytic and antibacterial *** visible light photocatalytic activities of Er_(2)TiO_(5) nanoparticles(NPs) and Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs were systematically evaluated under various conditions,including different concentrations of Basic Blue 41(BB 41) dye and *** results reveal a remarkable improvement in the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs(95%) compared to Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs(80%).Furthermore,the antibacterial efficacy of Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs and Er2TiO_5@Ag NCPs were extensively examined against Gram-positive and Gram-negative ***,Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs exhibit significantly higher minimum bactericidal concentration(mBC) values compared to Er_(2)TiO_(5) *** antibacterial effect of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs is particularly pronounced against *** and Pseudomonas aeruginosa,while demonstrating moderate effects on Escherichia coli and Enterococcus *** assess the biocompatibility of the synthesized materials,we investigated their internalization by mCF-7 ***,both Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs and Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs are found to be effectively internalized by the cells,suggesting their potential application in biomedical ***,our study unveils the exceptional potential of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs as a dual-action solution,simultaneously possessing enhanced photocatalytic efficiency and potent antibacterial *** multifunctional nanocomposite not only outperforms Er_(2)TiO_(5) and Ag but also paves the way for innovative applications in sustainable environmental remediation and advanced biomedical technologies,promising a brighter and cleaner future.
