Prevalence and Associated Factors of Anemia among Pregnant Women Receiving Antenatal Care (ANC) at Fatima Hospital in Jashore, Bangladesh: A Cross-Sectional Study

Since anemia is one of the most skyrocketed public health problems worldwide, an investigation has thus been conducted to assess the prevalence and associated factors of anemia among the pregnant women receiving antenatal care (ANC) at Fatima Hospital in Jashore, Bangladesh. Facility-based cross-sectional study was carried out among 384 pregnant women at Fatima hospital, Bangladesh from February to April, 2019. Data were obtained using a structured questionnaire and participant’s current medical record card. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with anemia and a P-value < 0.05 was considered as statistically significance. The overall prevalence of anemia among pregnant women was 58.9% (226/384). Out of 226 anemic pregnant mothers, 36.3% (82/226) were mildly anemic, 62.4% (141/226) were moderately anemic and 1.3% (3/384) was severely anemic. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that the following variables were significantly associated with anemia: Monthly family income (11,000 - 20,000 Taka) [AOR (95% CI) = 0.45 (0.21 - 0.98)], Family size (joint) [AOR (95% CI) = 1.59 (1.03 - 2.45)], Gestational age (third trimester) [AOR (95% CI) = 2.18 (1.40 - 3.40)], birth spacing < 2 years [AOR (95% CI) = 2.87 (1.51 - 5.44)], Excessive blood loss during previous surgery (Yes) [AOR (95% CI) = 2.08 (1.14 - 4.17)], Food group eaten 24 hours (1 - 4 groups) [AOR (95% CI) = 3.43 (1.84 - 6.39)], Breakfast regularly (No) [AOR (95% CI) = 3.64 (1.36 - 9.75)]. The results obtained showed that the prevalence of anemia among pregnant women is severe at Fatima Hospital in Jashore, Bangladesh.

The Impact of Motivational Factors Towards Entrepreneurial Intention

The entrepreneurial intention is one’s desire to start up one’s own business. Krueger et al.(2000) relate entrepreneurial intention with those who care about new venture formation. It is a way of thinking for an entrepreneur to emphasize on opportunities over threats. The rise in entrepreneurship is an important issue in the present world. Entrepreneurs are giving more attention to the small and medium enterprise. Start-up businesses are very significant in the case of growth, profitability, and development of the society. Possible factors that have an impact on entrepreneurial intention includes financial well-being, need for achievement, self-efficacy, and desire to be independent. The research question is to examine the factors of motivation towards entrepreneurial intention in the context of the female of Bangladesh. The problem is very significant as previous research has done mainly on male entrepreneurs and in the developed countries. The few studies conducted in developing countries to date (Iakovleva et al., 2011). The current study is an effort to explicitly examine the relationship between several factors of motivation and entrepreneurial intention of females of Bangladesh. In keeping with the hypotheses, results show that only need for achievement has a significant positive relation with entrepreneurial intention.

The Moderating Effects of Gender Diversity on Supply Chain Practice and Firm Performance

This research investivates the moderating effects of employees gender diversity and uncertainty on the relationship between supply chain practices and the performance of the firm which have a supply chain, Current supply chain management has become a possibly valuable way of improving firm performance, Gender plays an important role in the performance of an organization, but it has not get emphasize in research so far, This study provides a conceptual justification for a proposed model that identifies the relationships between supply chain practices and firm performance and describes the moderating effect of gender diversity and uncertainty, The higher levels of supply chain practice can lead to enhance firm performance, Also, gender diversity and uncertainty has an interaction effect on this relationship.

Predictors of Meningitis in Under-Fifteen Children Attending an Intensive Care Unit of an Urban Large Diarrheal Disease Hospital in Bangladesh

Background: Data are lack on predicting features of meningitis in diarrheal children although the great clinical importance. Objective: To evaluate clinical and laboratory features in predicting meningitis in under-fifteen children having diarrheal illnesses. Methods: Children aged 1 month to 15 years, admitted in the ICU of the Dhaka Hospital of icddr, b between March 2011 and February 2012 with fever and seizure or altered consciousness and having LP done were enrolled into this analysis. Those children who had abnormal CSF findings [pleocytosis (normal range of leukocyte, 0 - 10/mm3) and/or elevated protein (normal range, 0.10 - 0.45 mg/dl) and low glucose (normal value, 60% of corresponding blood glucose)] were defined as meningitis. Comparison was made between children with (cases = 17) and without meningitis (controls = 66) from our study children. Data were retrospectively collected from SHEBA, an online database system of the Dhaka Hospital of icddr, b. Results: Death was significantly higher among the cases compared to the controls (29% vs. 3%, p = 0.003). In logistic regression analysis, after adjusting for potential confounders, cases frequently had hypoxemia (95% CI 1.55 - 21.93), absent peripheral pulse (95% CI 1.95 - 27.13) and neutrophilia (95% CI 1.13 - 17.00). Conclusion: Our data suggest that children with meningitis had higher case fatality rate. Simple independent predictors of meningitis such as hypoxemia, absent peripheral pulse, and neutrophilia may help clinicians to initiate early and prompt management in order to curve lifelong sequel due to meningitis and death in such patient population especially those in resource poor settings.

Clinicopathological Profile of Breast Cancer Patients at a Tertiary Care Hospital in Kashmir Valley

Introduction: Breast cancer is the commonest malignancy in women worldwide. There are considerable variations in risk factors and presentation of the disease region wise. The present study aimed to describe clinical and pathological profile of breast cancer patients attending tertiary care hospital. Method: All consenting patients attending to surgical out-patient department (OPD) with complaints pertaining to breast disease were enrolled from 16th June 2015 to 15th June 2016. The patients were followed and demographic, clinical and pathologic information was recorded and analysed. Results: Total Of 180 patients with breast disease were enrolled. 34/100 were diagnosed of malignancy and formed the cases of the present study. Age of the patients ranged from 22 to 60 years with mean age of 42.06 ± 10.7 years. All the patients presented as breast lump variably associated with pain or discharge. Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma Not Otherwise Specified (IDC NOS) was common histologic diagnosis (76.47%). Conclusion: Breast carcinoma presents with painless lump and patients are usually diagnosed in our setup at locally advanced stage. Implementation of the simple and effective screening programs for early detection is urgent need in our population.

Rapid and accurate laboratory diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection is crucial for the management of COVID-19 patients and control of the spread of the virus. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh had only one government molecular laboratory where real-time RT-PCR would be performed to diagnose SARS-CoV-2 infection. With the increasing number of suspected cases requiring confirmation diagnostic testing, there is a requirement to expand capacity for large-scale testing quickly. The government of Bangladesh established over 100 molecular laboratories within one year to test COVID-19. To expand the testing capacity, the government was compelled to recruit laboratory staff with limited experience and technical expertise, especially in molecular assays, to process specimens, interpret results, troubleshoot. As a result, the risk of diagnostic errors, such as cross-contamination, increased, potentially undermining the efficacy of public health policies, public health response, surveillance programs, and restrictive measures aimed toward containing the outbreak. In this piece, we discuss the different sources of cross-contamination in the COVID-19 RT-PCR laboratories and proffer practical preventive measures to avoid them.

Chi-Square Distribution: New Derivations and Environmental Application

We describe two new derivations of the chi-square distribution. The first derivation uses the induction method, which requires only a single integral to calculate. The second derivation uses the Laplace transform and requires minimum assumptions. The new derivations are compared with the established derivations, such as by convolution, moment generating function, and Bayesian inference. The chi-square testing has seen many applications to physics and other fields. We describe a unique version of the chi-square test where both the variance and location are tested, which is then applied to environmental data. The chi-square test is used to make a judgment whether a laboratory method is capable of detection of gross alpha and beta radioactivity in drinking water for regulatory monitoring to protect health of population. A case of a failure of the chi-square test and its amelioration are described. The chi-square test is compared to and supplemented by the t-test.

[目的]了解中国树花内生真菌的多样性及其系统发育关系。[方法]通过常规组织分离法,采用马铃薯葡萄糖琼脂培养基(PDA)分离培养中国树花内生真菌,对内生真菌的菌落、菌丝和孢子进行观察并结合r DNA-ITS序列的PCR扩增测序,对获得的ITS序列通过Gen Bank数据库搜索同源序列并进行分析确定其分类地位并构建系统发育树。[结果]从中国树花中分离得到可培养内生真菌51株,分属4纲、5目、7科、12属,其中青霉属(Penicillium sp.)和曲霉属(Aspergillus sp.)总相对分离率分别为47%、18%,为中国树花内生真菌优势属。[结论]首次对中国树花进行内生真菌的分离,并确定其分类地位,对分离得到的51株内生真菌进行合并相同菌落形态和显微结构,共获得18株内生真菌,通过系统发育分析发现这18株聚为5大类。

Baccaurea motleyana(rambai)is underutilized fruits that are native to Malaysia,Indonesia and *** this study,a total of 54,779 unigenes identified from rambai transcriptome were used for simple sequence repeat(SSR)analysis by MIcroSAtellite(MISA).A total of 20,420 SSRs were found to be distributed within 37.27%of the total number of *** repeats represented the main type,accounting for 64.04%,followed by trinucleotide repeats(20.28%)and dinucleotide repeats(19.94%).Gene annotation to seven databases has a success ratio of 68.53%(National Center for Biotechnology Information(NCBI)protein sequences),53.68%(NCBI nucleotide sequences),27.43%(Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genome Ortholog),56.0%(SwissProt),52.44%(Protein family),53.99%(Gene Ontology)and 26.44%(Kluster of Orthologous Group).Further rambai SSRs were randomly selected and validated to ***(rambai),***(tampoi),***(jentik-jentik),***(pupor)and ***(setambun).
