A comprehensive simulation-based assessment of office building performance adaptability to teleworking scenarios in different Canadian climate zones

Recent studies have shown that office building systems do not adapt well to partial occupancy(e.g.,from teleworking)and thus perform *** a result,this study aims to assess office building performance adaptability by investigating the impact of four different technologies,including occupancy-based lighting,smart plugs(occupancy-based plug load),demand-controlled ventilation(DCV),occupancy-based thermostat,and their cumulative effect in office buildings in six different Canadian climates.A three-story office building is simulated in EnergyPlus version 9.3.0 under five occupancy scenarios,including 0%occupancy,100%occupancy,50%uniformly distributed occupancy across the floor,50%consolidated occupancy scenario where occupants work in core zones,and 50%consolidated occupancy scenario where occupants work in perimeter *** results are compared using energy use intensity(EUI),energy use intensity per occupant(EUP),and the corresponding greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions.A total of 180 simulations demonstrate the occupancy-adaptive technologies are generally most beneficial for low occupancy scenarios and milder *** results also show the cumulative impact of all these technologies on the potential energy savings is significant in the climates under ***,the results show office buildings can improve their performance adaptability during partial occupancy by implementing the studied *** from filling in the current knowledge gap in the literature on partial occupancy,the for the first time results of this study systemically demonstrate how each technology performs under different partial occupancy scenarios and how they perform together at each climate.

In the present study, time evolution of quantum Cramer–Rao bound of entangled N00N state, as phase sensitivity, is determined by the aid of quantum estimation theory in the presence decoherence channels. Also, the dynamic quantum process as decoherence approach is characterized by quantum fisher information flow and entanglement amount in order to distinguish between Markovian and Non-Markovian process. The comparison between quantum fisher information and quantum fisher information flow assists to comprehend the phase sensitivity evolution corresponding to Non-Markovian and Markovian process. Furthermore, as result of backflow of information from the environment to system, the phase sensitivity corresponding memory effect of environment are revived after complete decay and increase in the few times.

Uncertainty of concrete strength in shear and flexural behavior of beams using lattice modeling

This paper numerically studied the effect of uncertainty and random distribution of concrete strength in beams failing in shear and flexure using lattice modeling,which is suitable for statistical *** independent variables of this study included the level of strength reduction and the number of members with reduced *** levels of material deficiency(i.e.,10%,20%,30%)were randomly introduced to 5%,10%,15%,and 20%of *** provide a database and reliable results,1000 analyses were carried out(a total of 24000 analyses)using the MATLAB software for each *** studies were conducted for both shear-and flexure-deficit beams under four-point loading and results were compared using finite element software where *** of lattice modeling was highlighted as an efficient tool to account for uncertainty in statistical *** showed that the number of deficient members had a more significant effect on beam capacity compared to the level of strength *** scatter of random load-capacities was higher in flexure(range:0.680-0.990)than that of shear(range:0.795-0.996).Finally,nonlinear regression relationships were established with coefficient of correlation values(R^(2))above 0.90,which captured the overall load-deflection response and level of load reduction.

To help walking,using assistive devices can be considered to reduce the loads caused by weight and to effectively decrease the propulsive *** this study,a mobility Saddle-Assistive Device(S-AD)supporting body weight while walking was evaluated on two healthy *** device is based on the support of body weight against gravity with the help of a saddle,which is not used in other passive mobility assistive *** prove the efficiency of this device,the experimental results obtained while walking with this device were compared with those related to walking without the assistive *** results showed that this device could significantly reduce the forces and torque of the lower and upper limbs when *** distributing the load on the saddle,the vertical force and the propulsive force in the best conditions were decreased to 46.7%and were increased to 13.7%in body weight,*** a S-AD can help patients with lower limbs weakness and elderly people to walk.

Effect of channel shape on selection of time marching scheme in the discontinuous Galerkin method for 1-D open channel flow

One-dimensional open channel flows are simulated using the discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. Three different explicit time marching schemes, including multistep/multistage schemes, are evaluated for different channel shapes for accuracy and efficiency. The Forward Euler, second-order Adam-Bashforth （multistep）, and second-order total variation diminishing （TVD） Runge-Kutta （multistage） time marching schemes are utilized. The role of monotonized central, minmod, and zero TVD slope limiters for each of the time marching scheme is investigated. The numerical flux is approximated using HLL function. The accuracy and robustness of different time marching schemes are evaluated for steady and unsteady flows using analytical and measured data. The unsteady flows include dam break tests with wet and dry beds downstream of the dam in prismatic （rectangular, trapezoidal, triangular, and parabolic cross-sections） and non-prismatic （natural river） channels. The steady flow test involves simulation of hydraulic jump in a diverging rectangular channel. The various schemes are evaluated by comparing accuracy using statistical measures and efficiency using maximum possible time step size as well as CPU runtime. The second-order Adam-Bashforth time marching scheme is found to have the best accuracy and efficiency among the time stepping schemes tested.

1-D coupled non-equilibrium sediment transport modeling for unsteady flows in the discontinuous Galerkin framework

A high-resolution, 1-D numerical model has been developed in the discontinuous Galerkin framework to simulate 1-D flow behavior, sediment transport, and morphological evaluation under unsteady flow conditions. The flow and sediment concentration variables are computed based on the one-dimensional shallow water flow equations, while empirical equations are used for entrainment and deposition processes. The sediment transport model includes the bed load and suspended load components. New formulations for Harten-Lax-van Leer （HLL） and Harten-Lax-van Contact （HLLC） are presented for shallow water flow equations that include the bed load and suspended load fluxes. The computational results for the flow and morphological changes after two dam break events are compared with the physical model tests. Results show that the modified HLL and HLLC formulations are robust and can accurately predict morphological changes in highly unsteady flows.

Effects of drought and slope aspect on canopy facilitation in a mountainous rangeland

Aims Species composition and diversity of the mountainous rangelands are results of interactions between environmental severities,het-erogeneous topography and facilitative effects by nurse *** research was aimed to compare relative effects of these three envi-ronmental variables on the natural vegetation of a mountainous *** a more detailed understanding,effects of four dif-ferent nurse species were separately compared on the various plant growth forms and on two community plant responses(diversity and abundance).Methods A mountainous semiarid rangeland was selected in Baharkish,Quchan,Northeast of *** and canopy cover of all plant species were recorded under the canopy of four different shrubs and in open areas,in north and south-facing aspects,and in a normal and a drought *** diversity,total abundance(%cover)and the abundance of different growth forms were used as crite-ria for assessing effects of the environmental *** were arranged in a factorial combination and analyzed by three-way analysis of variance using a GLM *** Findings(i)Drought,aspect and canopy created niche differentiation:annual forbs and shrubs were more affected by drought,whereas geophytes and grasses were more responsive to slope *** of drought and slope aspect were more profound on species diversity,whereas that of canopy facilitation was stronger on plant abundance.(ii)Canopy facili-tation was dependent on severity of the abiotic factors and life history of interacting *** facilitation allowed for the persistence of only annual forbs,but it was disadvantaged during the drought *** community responses to abiotic factors(slope and drought)were more dependent on the plant growth form,while responses to canopy facilitation were more dependent on the morphology and/or ecology of nurse shrubs.(iii)Effect of shrubs was dependent on their morphology and ecology:shrubs with larger canopy area and nitrogen fix

Growth-promoting bacteria(GPB)have shown promising effects on serving plants against environmental constraints such as ***,simultaneous effects of different GPB have less been considered for arid land plants and under field *** investigated the effects of single and combined application of GPB,including free-living nitrogen-fixing bacteria(NFB),phosphate solubilizing bacteria(PSB),potassium solubilizing bacteria(KSB),a combination of NFB,PSB,and KSB(NPK),and control,at three drought stress *** order to better understand the interactions between drought and GPB,we measured the morphological,biochemical,and physiological plant *** target plant was salt tree(Halimodendron Halodendron(Pall.)Voss),a legume shrub native to arid lands of Central and West *** biofertilizer treatments enhanced the growth,physiology,and biochemistry of salt tree seedlings,and there were significant differences among the *** and PSB treatments increased photosynthetic pigments,but KSB treatment was more efficient in transpiration rate and stomatal regulation and increased the soluble *** treatment had the highest effect on root traits,such as taproot length,root volume,cumulative root length,and the ratio of root to *** treatment enhanced root diameter and induced biomass translocation between root ***,only the application of mixed biofertilizer(i.e.,NPK treatment)was the most significant treatment to improve all plant morphological and physiological characteristics of salt tree under drought ***,our results provided improvement of some specific plant traits simultaneous with application of three biofertilizers to increase growth and establishment of salt tree seedlings in the degraded arid lands.
