A remotely sensed tracking of forest cover and associatedtemperature change in Margalla hills

Worldwide, forest degradation is a serious environmental issue, and inPakistan, forest wealth is depleting at the highest rate in South Asia. Toensure sustainable development goals of environmental stewardship,social development and economic growth, a sound monitoring andregulatory mechanism is essential for tracking forest cover changes. Thisstudy aims to quantify the decline of forest reserves and associatedtemperature variations in a relatively unexplored biodiversity hotspot ofIslamabad, Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP). Imagery acquired byLandsat TM (Thematic Mapper) for the year 1992, 2000 and 2011 areused to assess the spatial and temporal changes occurred over the lasttwo decades (from 1992 to 2011). A robust hybrid-classification routineis implemented to monitor the changes in forest cover and ANOVAalong with Tukey’s HSD (Honestly Significant Difference) test is used totest the significance of temperature variation associated with a shift inland cover classes. The results showed a significant growth insettlements, agricultural area and barren soil whereas water body, lowervegetation, scrub and pine forest are diminishing. In both decades, thetemperature alteration associated with a change in land cover classesare statistically significant (confirmed by ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD tests)for most of the land use/land cover classes. Based on these findings, thisstudy concludes that forests are dwindling at MHNP and the degradingcondition of the forest is below par and necessitates the promotion ofconservation practices to minimize ecological disturbances.

Objective:To investigate the effect of Rosa moschata(***)extract on haloperidol-induced Parkinson’s disease(PD)in ***:Haloperidol(1 mg/kg)was given to rats intraperitoneally for 3 weeks for induction of *** extract(150,300 and 600 mg/kg)was administered orally for 21 *** neuroprotective role of *** leaf extract in PD was explored by performing neurobehavioral tests and RT-PCR analysis and measuring neurotransmitters and oxidative stress ***:An improvement in motor functions and muscle strength was observed in PD rats treated with *** *** levels of dopamine,serotonin,noradrenaline,superoxide dismutase,catalase,glutathione,and superoxide dismutase were significantly increased(P<0.001),whereas acetylcholinesterase and malondialdehyde levels were markedly decreased by treatment with *** extract(P<0.001).The extract also markedly downregulated the mRNA expressions of IL-1β,α-synuclein,IL-1α,and TNF-αin brain ***,histopathological analysis indicated that neurofibrillary tangles and plaques were noticeably decreased in a dose-dependent manner in PD rats treated with *** ***:*** extract alleviates haloperidol-induced PD in rats by reducing oxidative stress and *** may be used for management and treatment of *** additional studies are required to confirm its efficacy and molecular mechanisms.

An Early Evaluation and Comparison of Three Private Cloud Computing Software Platforms

Cloud computing, after its success as a commercial infrastructure, is now emerging as a private infrastructure. The software platforms available to build private cloud computing infrastructure vary in their performance for management of cloud resources as well as in utilization of local physical resources. Organizations and individuals looking forward to reaping the benefits of private cloud computing need to understand which software platform would provide the efficient services and optimum utilization of cloud resources for their target applications. In this paper, we present our initial study on performance evaluation and comparison of three cloud computing software platforms from the perspective of common cloud users who intend to build their private clouds. We compare the performance of the selected software platforms from several respects describing their suitability for applications from different domains. Our results highlight the critical parameters for performance evaluation of a software platform and the best software platform for different application domains.

Biodegradation of p-cresol by aerobic granules in sequencing batch reactor

The cultivation of aerobic granules in sequencing batch reactor for the biodegradation of p-cresol was studied. The reactor was started with 100 mg/L of p-cresol. Aerobic granules first appeared within one month of start up. The granules were large and strong and had a compact structure. The diameter of stable granules was in the range of 1-5 mm. The integrity coefficient and granules density was found to be 96% and 1046 kg/m3, raspectively, The settling velocity of granules was found to be in the range of 2×10^-2-6×10^-7 m/sec. The aerobic granules were able to degrade p-cresol upto 800 mg/L at a removal efficiency of 88%. Specific p-cresol degradation rate in aerobic granules followed Haldane model for substrate inhibition, High specific p-cresol degradation rate up to 0,96 g pcresol/（g ***） were sustained upto p-cresol concentration of 400 mg/L, Higher removal efficiency, good settling characteristics of aerobic granules, makes sequencing batch reactor suitable for erLhaneing the microorganism potential for biodegradation of inhibitory compounds.

In this paper we prove the existence of conditional expectations in the noncom- mutative Lp（M, Ф）-spaces associated with center-valued traces. Moreover, their description is also provided. As an application of the obtained results, we establish the norm convergence of weighted averages of martingales in noncommutative Lp（M, Ф）-spaces.

Kinetics of the exchange reaction catalyzed by 2-amino-3- ketobutyrate CoA ligase

2-Amino-3-ketobutyrate CoA ligase （KBL） of Escherichia coli is a member of the a-oxoamine synthase family; it catalyzes the condensation reaction between glycine and acetyl CoA to yield 2-amino-3-ketobutyrate. We have previously shown that KBL catalyzes the exchange ofpro-R hydrogen of glycine with protons in the medium; however, the kinetics of this reaction has never been determined. In this study, we calculated the kinetic parameters of this exchange reaction by using different concentrations of [2RS- 3H2： 2-14C] glycine. The rate of the exchange reaction was determined by measuring the 3H/14C ratio in recovered ｜2S- 3H： 2J4C]glycine. The Lineweaver-Burk plot showed that Km and kcat of this reaction were 3.8 ×10^-3 M and 0.22 S^-11, respectively. On the other hand, Km and kcat values of the overall KBL-mediated catalysis were correspondingly 1.23 × 10^-2 M and 1.19 S^-1. Thus, the rate of the exchange reaction was almost five times lower than that of overall KBL catalysis.

Optical wireless information transfer with nonlinear micromechanical resonators

Wireless transfer of information is the basis of modern *** includes cellular,WiFi,Bluetooth,and GPS systems,all of which use electromagnetic radio waves with frequencies ranging from typically 100 MHz to a few ***,several long-standing challenges with standard radio-wave wireless transmission still exist,including keeping secure transmission of data from potential ***,we demonstrate wireless information transfer using a line-of-sight optical architecture with a micromechanical *** this fundamentally new approach,a laser beam encoded with information impinges on a nonlinear micromechanical resonator located a distance from the *** force generated by the radiation pressure of the laser light on the nonlinear micromechanical resonator produces a sideband modulation signal,which carries the precise information encoded in the subtle changes in the radiation *** this,we demonstrate data and image transfer with one hundred percent fidelity with a single 96-by-270μm silicon resonator element in an optical frequency *** mechanical approach relies only on the momentum of the incident photons and is therefore able to use any portion of the optical frequency band—a band that is 10000 times wider than the radio frequency *** line-of-sight architecture using highly scalable micromechanical resonators offers new possibilities in wireless *** to their small size,these resonators can be easily arrayed while maintaining a small form factor to provide redundancy and parallelism.

A Robust Emergency Messages Routing Scheme for Urban VANETs

Vehicular ad-hoc networks(VANETs)play an essential role in enhancing transport infrastructure by making vehicles intelligent and proficient in preventing traffic ***-based greedy protocols pick the next route vehicle for transmitting emergency messages(EMs)depending upon the present location of adjacent vehicles towards sink vehicles by using an optimal uni-directional road traffic ***,such protocols suffer performance degradation by ignoring the moving directions of vehicles in bi-directional road traffic where topological changes happen *** to the high number of vehicles,it is essential to broadcast EMs to all vehicles to prevent traffic delays and collisions.A cluster-based EM transmitting technique is proposed in this *** urban VANETs,this paper pioneers the clustering of bi-directional road traffic for robust and efficient routing of *** this regard,this paper introduces a routing protocol,namely,the bi-directional urban routing protocol(BURP).In addition to the paths and relative locations of vehicles,BURP takes account of the distance parameter by using the Hamming distance function to determine the direction ofmotion of vehicles and communicates EMs through the cluster head(CH).Amodified k-medoids algorithm is presented for the clustering of bi-directional road traffic.A median method is presented for selecting CH to ensure the longrunning of a *** results show that BURP provides enhanced throughput,a maximized packet delivery ratio,low energy consumption,and network delay relative to eminent routing protocols.

Value-Based Test Case Prioritization for Regression Testing Using Genetic Algorithms

Test Case Prioritization(TCP)techniques perform better than other regression test optimization techniques including Test Suite Reduction(TSR)and Test Case Selection(TCS).Many TCP techniques are available,and their performance is usually measured through a metric Average Percentage of Fault Detection(APFD).This metric is value-neutral because it only works well when all test cases have the same cost,and all faults have the same *** APFD for performance evaluation of test case orders where test cases cost or faults severity varies is prone to produce false ***,using the right metric for performance evaluation of TCP techniques is very important to get reliable and correct *** this paper,two value-based TCP techniques have been introduced using Genetic Algorithm(GA)including Value-Cognizant Fault Detection-Based TCP(VCFDB-TCP)and Value-Cognizant Requirements Coverage-Based TCP(VCRCB-TCP).Two novel value-based performance evaluation metrics are also introduced for value-based TCP including Average Percentage of Fault Detection per value(APFDv)and Average Percentage of Requirements Coverage per value(APRCv).Two case studies are performed to validate proposed techniques and performance evaluation *** proposed GA-based techniques outperformed the existing state-of-the-art TCP techniques including Original Order(OO),Reverse Order(REV-O),Random Order(RO),and Greedy algorithm.
