Impact of the Brink-Axel hypothesis on unique first-forbiddenβ-transitions for r-process nuclei

Key nuclear inputs for the astrophysical r-process simulations are the weak interaction rates.Consequently,the accuracy of these inputs directly affects the reliability of nucleosynthesis modeling.The majority of the stellar rates,used in simulation studies are calculated by invoking the Brink-Axel(BA)hypothesis.The BA hypothesis assumes that the strength functions of all parent excited states are the same as for the ground state,only shifted in energies.However,the BA hypothesis has to be tested against microscopically calculated state-by-state rates.In this project,we study the impact of the BA hypothesis on calculated stellarβ^(-)-decay and electron capture rates.Our investigation include both unique first forbidden(U1F)and allowed transitions for 106 neutron-rich trans-iron nuclei([27,77]≤[Z,A]≤[82,208]).The calculations were performed using the deformed proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation(pn-QRPA)model with a simple plus quadrupole separable and schematic interaction.Waiting-point and several key r-process nuclei lie within the considered mass region of the nuclear chart.We computed electron capture andβ^(-)-decay rates using two different prescriptions for strength functions.One was based on invoking the BA hypothesis and the other was the state-by-state calculation of strength functions,under stellar density and temperature conditions([10,1]≤[ρYe(g/cm^(3)),T(GK)]≤[10^(11),30]).Our results show that the BA hypothesis invoked U1Fβ^(-)rates are overestimated by 4–5 orders of magnitude as compared to microscopic rates.For capture rates,more than two orders of magnitude differences were noted when applying the BA hypothesis.It was concluded that the BA hypothesis is not a reliable approximation,especially forβ^(-)-decay forbidden transitions.

Crop improvement is crucial for addressing the global challenges of food security and sustainable agriculture.Recent advancements in high-throughput phenotyping(HTP)technologies and artificial intelligence(AI)have revolutionized the field,enabling rapid and accurate assessment of crop traits on a large scale.The integration of AI and machine learning algorithms with HTP data has unlocked new opportunities for crop improvement.AI algorithms can analyze and interpret large datasets,and extract meaningful patterns and correlations between phenotypic traits and genetic factors.These technologies have the potential to revolutionize plant breeding programs by providing breeders with efficient and accurate tools for trait selection,thereby reducing the time and cost required for variety development.However,further research and collaboration are needed to overcome the existing challenges and fully unlock the power of HTP and AI in crop improvement.By leveraging AI algorithms,researchers can efficiently analyze phenotypic data,uncover complex patterns,and establish predictive models that enable precise trait selection and crop breeding.The aim of this review is to explore the transformative potential of integrating HTP and AI in crop improvement.This review will encompass an in-depth analysis of recent advances and applications,highlighting the numerous benefits and challenges associated with HTP and AI.

Colonoscopy is an integral part of the lower bowel care and is generally considered a potentially safe diagnostic and therapeutic procedure performed as a daycare outpatient procedure.Colonoscopy is associated with different complications that are not limited to adverse events related to the bowel preparation solutions used,the sedatives used,but to the procedure related as well including bleeding and perforation.Injuries to the extra-luminal abdominal organs during colonoscopy are uncommon,however,serious complications related to the procedure have been reported infrequently in the literature.Life threatening injuries to the spleen,liver,pancreas,mesentery,and urinary bladder have been reported as early as in mid-1970s.These injuries should not be overlooked by clinicians and endoscopists.Steadily increasing abdominal pain,abdominal distension,and hemodynamic instability in absence of rectal bleeding should raise the possibility of severe organ injury.Splenic and hepatic injury following colonoscopy are usually serious and may be life threatening.Although conservative management may help,yet they usually need interventional radiology or surgical intervention.Acute pancreatitis following colonoscopy is usually mild and is mostly managed conservatively.The mechanism of abdominal organ injuries during colonoscopy is not fully understood,however many risk factors have been identified,which can be classified as-organ related,procedure related,and local abdominal factors.Difficult colonoscopy and prior intra-abdominal adhesions are probably the most relevant risk factors for these injuries.Left lateral position,avoidance of looping and excessive force during the procedure would probably reduce the risk of such injuries.

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus(HCV)is a blood-borne virus which globally affects around 79 million people and is associated with high morbidity and mortality.Chronic infection leads to cirrhosis in a large proportion of patients and often causes hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in people with cirrhosis.Of the 6 HCV genotypes(G1-G6),genotype-3 accounts for 17.9%of infections.HCV genotype-3 responds least well to directly-acting antivirals and patients with genotype-3 infection are at increased risk of HCC even if they do not have cirrhosis.AIM To systematically review and critically appraise all risk factors for HCC secondary to HCV-G3 in all settings.Consequently,we studied possible risk factors for HCC due to HCV-G3 in the literature from 1946 to 2023.METHODS This systematic review aimed to synthesise existing and published studies of risk factors for HCC secondary to HCV genotype-3 and evaluate their strengths and limitations.We searched Web of Science,Medline,EMBASE,and CENTRAL for publications reporting risk factors for HCC due to HCV genotype-3 in all settings,1946-2023.RESULTS Four thousand one hundred and forty-four records were identified from the four databases with 260 records removed as duplicates.Three thousand eight hundred and eighty-four records were screened with 3514 excluded.Three hundred and seventy-one full-texts were assessed for eligibility with seven studies included for analysis.Of the seven studies,three studies were retrospective case-control trials,two retrospective cohort studies,one a prospective cohort study and one a cross-sectional study design.All were based in hospital settings with four in Pakistan,two in South Korea and one in the United States.The total number of participants were 9621 of which 167 developed HCC(1.7%).All seven studies found cirrhosis to be a risk factor for HCC secondary to HCV genotype-3 followed by higher age(five-studies),with two studies each showing male sex,high alpha feto-protein,directly-acting antivirals treatment and achievement of sustained virologic res

Recently,there have been several uses for digital image processing.Image fusion has become a prominent application in the domain of imaging processing.To create one final image that provesmore informative and helpful compared to the original input images,image fusion merges two or more initial images of the same item.Image fusion aims to produce,enhance,and transform significant elements of the source images into combined images for the sake of human visual perception.Image fusion is commonly employed for feature extraction in smart robots,clinical imaging,audiovisual camera integration,manufacturing process monitoring,electronic circuit design,advanced device diagnostics,and intelligent assembly line robots,with image quality varying depending on application.The research paper presents various methods for merging images in spatial and frequency domains,including a blend of stable and curvelet transformations,everageMax-Min,weighted principal component analysis(PCA),HIS(Hue,Intensity,Saturation),wavelet transform,discrete cosine transform(DCT),dual-tree Complex Wavelet Transform(CWT),and multiple wavelet transform.Image fusion methods integrate data from several source images of an identical target,thereby enhancing information in an extremely efficient manner.More precisely,in imaging techniques,the depth of field constraint precludes images from focusing on every object,leading to the exclusion of certain characteristics.To tackle thess challanges,a very efficient multi-focus wavelet decomposition and recompositionmethod is proposed.The use of these wavelet decomposition and recomposition techniques enables this method to make use of existing optimized wavelet code and filter choice.The simulated outcomes provide evidence that the suggested approach initially extracts particular characteristics from images in order to accurately reflect the level of clarity portrayed in the original images.This study enhances the performance of the eXtreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)algorithm in detecting brain malignancies with

Accurate detection and classification of artifacts within the gastrointestinal(GI)tract frames remain a significant challenge in medical image processing.Medical science combined with artificial intelligence is advancing to automate the diagnosis and treatment of numerous diseases.Key to this is the development of robust algorithms for image classification and detection,crucial in designing sophisticated systems for diagnosis and treatment.This study makes a small contribution to endoscopic image classification.The proposed approach involves multiple operations,including extracting deep features from endoscopy images using pre-trained neural networks such as Darknet-53 and Xception.Additionally,feature optimization utilizes the binary dragonfly algorithm(BDA),with the fusion of the obtained feature vectors.The fused feature set is input into the ensemble subspace k nearest neighbors(ESKNN)classifier.The Kvasir-V2 benchmark dataset,and the COMSATS University Islamabad(CUI)Wah private dataset,featuring three classes of endoscopic stomach images were used.Performance assessments considered various feature selection techniques,including genetic algorithm(GA),particle swarm optimization(PSO),salp swarm algorithm(SSA),sine cosine algorithm(SCA),and grey wolf optimizer(GWO).The proposed model excels,achieving an overall classification accuracy of 98.25% on the Kvasir-V2 benchmark and 99.90% on the CUI Wah private dataset.This approach holds promise for developing an automated computer-aided system for classifying GI tract syndromes through endoscopy images.

Ocular surface disease(OSD)can have a severe impact on patients as it can lead to visual impairment and persistent discomfort.Ocular surface reconstruction(OSR)is an approach to the management of ocular diseases that cause structural damage to the ocular surface.OSR encompasses both medical and surgical treatment options.In this review,we discuss the medical and surgical strategies used in OSR.Medical management often aims to treat tear insufficiency,inflammation,and keratinization.Surgical treatments may be employed for a variety of reasons,including failure of medical management.This may include improving the oculo-palpebral structures in order to improve lid positioning and tear film.Additional therapies focus on improving tear production,such as through salivary gland transplantation.In situations where the ocular surface is so severely damaged that there is loss of limbal stem cells,limbal stem cell transplant(LSCT)may be indicated.Other surgeries such as amniotic membrane transplant(AMT)and conjunctival flaps(CFs)can help promote corneal healing.Finally,in severe situations where the cornea is beyond salvage,corneal transplantation,such as a penetrating keratoplasty(PKP),can be considered.OSR often requires a combination of medical and surgical approaches targeted to each specific patient’s presentation in order to achieve optimal outcomes.

Ammonia（NH3） is an irreplaceable chemical that has been widely demanded to keep the sustainable development of modern society.However,its industrial production consumes a huge amount of energy and releases extraordinary greenhouse gases（GHGs）,leading to various environmental issues.Achieving the green production of ammonia is a great challenge,which has been extensively pursued in the last decade.In this review,the most promising strategy,electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction（e-NO3RR）,is comprehensively investigated to give a complete understanding of its development and mechanism and provide guidance for future directions.However,owing to the complex reactions and limited selectivity,a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms is crucial to further development and commercialization.Moreover,NO3-RR is a promising strategy for simultaneous water treatment and NH3production.A detailed overview of the recent progress in NO3-RR for NH3production with nontransition and transition metal based electrocatalysts is summarized.In addition,critical advanced techniques,future challenges,and prospects are discussed to guide future research on transition metal-based catalysts for commercial NH3synthesis by NO3-reduction.

Glacier inventories serve as critical baseline data for understanding the impacts of climate change on glaciers.The present study maps the outlines of glaciers in the Chandra-Bhaga Basin(western Himalaya)for the years 1993,2000,2010,and 2019 using Landsat Thematic Mapper(TM),Enhanced Thematic Mapper(ETM),and Operational Land Imager(OLI)datasets.A total of 251 glaciers,each having an area above 0.5 km^(2),were identified,which include 216 clean-ice and 35 debris-covered glaciers.Area changes are estimated for three periods:1993-2000,2000-2010,and 2010-2019.The total glacierized area was 996±62 km^(2) in 1993,which decreased to 973±70 km^(2) in 2019.The mean rate of glacier area loss was higher in the recent decade(2010-2019),at 0.036 km^(2),compared to previous decades(0.029 km^(2) in 2000-2010 and 0.025 km^(2) in 1993-2000).Supraglacial debris cover changes are also mapped over the period of 1993 and 2019.It is found that the supraglacial debris cover increased by 14.12±2.54 km^(2)(15.2%)during 1993-2019.Extensive field surveys on Chhota Shigri,Panchi II,Patsio,Hamtah,Mulkila,and Yoche Lungpa glaciers were carried out to validate the glacier outlines and supraglacial debris cover estimated using satellite datasets.Controls of various morphological parameters on retreat were also analyzed.It is observed that small,clean ice,south oriented glaciers,and glaciers with proglacial lakes are losing area at faster rates than other glaciers in the basin.
