Inorganic pyrophosphatases are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of inorganic pyrophosphate to orthophosphate. These enzymes are divided into two groups: the soluble pyrophosphatases and the membrane pyrophosphatases. They vary in structure and each has a determined catalysis mechanism. Soluble pyrophosphatases are ubiquitous enzymes and play a key role in regulating the rate of pyrophosphate and balance in this sense, the biosynthetic reactions. Membrane pyrophosphatases are ion pumps, producing a proton or sodium gradient, and provide critical energy reserves to organisms, especially during stress conditions. Several studies have shown that these enzymes are involved in numerous disorders (diseases, fault cell growth···). However they are potential targets for the development of agents against parasites. This article consists of a description of the different types, structures, catalytic properties of inorganic pyrophosphatases and their involvement in cellular metabolism.

The protection of aquatic ecosystems is of great importance to maintain the biological balance necessary to secure healthy foods therein imbedded. Toho Lake, located to the south east of Benin, is threatened by pollution emanating from anthropogenic activities with the use of chemical fertilizers, effluent of domestic waste, particularly human and animal excrement with neighbourhood effluents. This study aimed at assessing some heavy metals in fresh fish (Oreochromis aureus) of Toho Lake in order to secure healthy food for the population and protect the ecosystem. Samples of water and fishes were collected and analyzed by HACH DR 3900 after treatment. Results revealed a mean oxygenation of water (4.95 mgo2/l), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (21.5 mgo2/l), Chemical oxygen Demand (149, 39 mg/l) with the nitrogen in Nitrate (NO3: 0.18 mg/l), ammonium nitrate (N-N: 0.47 mg/l), and phosphorous (2.06 mg/l) to be very high. The highest contents of heavy metals obtained in the fresh fish were cadmium (32.25 mg/kg), copper (115 mg/kg), lead (8.25 mg/kg), and zinc (90.75 mg/kg) and revealed that the fishes of Toho lake were polluted. The finding allowed us to conclude that the pollution of the lake and the fish carnage are due to anthropogenic pollution through chemicals spilling. Some protection methods of the lake and ecosystem are proposed in order to keep the fish safe and protect the well-being of the population.

Bowel occlusions by bezoars are rare pathologies. They are due to an ob-struction of the intestinal lumen by a solid mass of fruits or undigested vegetable fibers. They are seasonal (wild fruit season from March to June) in the Sahel Zone. We report a case of small bowel obstruction in a 35-year-old rural man after swallowing a significant amount of wild grapes (Lannea microcarpa). We proceeded to the resection of the occluded ileal segment and performed an ileal terminal ileal anastomosis. There weren’t any complications during the postoperative site.

The objective of this study was to develop allometric models for estimating the biomass of Sclerocarya birrea (***) Hoscht and Boscia senegalensis (Pers.) Lam. ex Poir. The inventory of these ligneous was carried out at Widou Thiengoly (North of Senegal). The sample consists of 43 individuals of Boscia senegalensis and 15 individuals of Sclerocarya birrea. The selected individuals were dendrometrically characterized before being cut, compartmentalized (trunk, branches, and twigs) and weighed entirely. Simple regression tests were performed to examine the most explanatory dendrometric parameter (x) for biomass (y) according to two types of models: the linear model (y = ax + b) and the polynomial model of degrees 2 (y = ax2 + bx + c). The criteria for selection and validity of the models are based firstly on the tests of normality, nullity, heterogeneity and autocorrelation of the residues. The results showed that the most explanatory dendrometric parameter of the biomass was the crown surface for Boscia senegalensis and the 1.30 m diameter for Sclerocarya birrea of all the tests performed, the second-order Polynomial model is the best predictor of above ground biomass for these two species. Thus, the allometric models established to predict the biomass of these two species are: y = 0.0023x2 + 0.4851x - 0.0519 for Boscia senegalensis and y = 0.35x2 + 10.35x - 12.90 for S. birrea;with very significant correlation coefficients (R2) of 0.85 and 0.94 respectively. These results can be used for a sequestered carbon assessment study and will play a role in monitoring the carbon market in Africa.

Introduction: Intra-dural and extramedullary ependymomas are rare lesions. We report a clinical case confirmed by the histology supported by the neurosurgery department of Martinique University Hospital. Clinical, paraclinical and therapeutic data will be compared to a literature review. Observation: A 38-year-old patient was admitted for tetraparesthesia evolving since 3 months, associated with a left hemiparesis. The clinical examination revealed deterioration of the general condition and a tetrapyramidal syndrome. MRI of the cervical spine revealed extensive cervical extra-medullary intradural lesion of C3 to C5. The treatment had been an excisional surgery that had been subtotal in two stages, supplemented by craniospinal radiotherapy because the pathological examination had found a grade III anaplasic ependymoma. Conclusion: Because of their rarity, the treatment of these forms of ependymoma is not yet well codified.

This study aimed to assess the opinion of visitors regarding animal welfare at Zoo National d＇Abidjan. To reach this goal, a survey was conducted by interview with 220 visitors randomly selected among those who realized a full tour of the Zoo. Respondents were predominantly （59.1%） men and 59.1% were aged between 21 and 40 years. A large part （48.2%） had a high school level. Nearly 31% （30.9%） have animals and 64.6% love animals. More than half （60%） believe that the animals are in a situation of well being and 24.1% believe that elephant, lions and monkeys are lean. On the hygiene of habitat, 49.5% of visitors think that the pen of chimpanzees is the least clean. More three quarters （79.1%） believe that the animals are well fed, 89.1% that they are safe and 29.9% believe that animals are sad. Finally, visitors have various opinions but many believe that the welfare of lions, elephant, chimpanzees and patas monkeys must be improved.

Phosphorus is one of the bioelements most needed as a compound cell by living organisms. Phosphorus is involved in several pathologies: in human with bone and kidney diseases, in mammals with metabolism disorder (glucose, insulin···), in microorganisms whose phosphorus is involved in cell growth. Phosphorus has various forms including pyrophosphate, a by-product of multiple pathways of biosynthesis. Enzymes that hydrolyze pyrophosphate are called inorganic pyrophosphatases (PPases). Two major types of inorganic pyrophosphatases are distinguished: the soluble pyrophosphatases (sPPases) and the membrane pyrophosphatases (mPPases or H+/Na+-PPases). They play a key role in the control of intracellular inorganic pyrophosphate level and produce an important ions gradient (H+ or Na+) to the cells. In this work, we primarily focused on the physiological study in a phosphate-poor medium of two models Tetrahymena thermophile and Tetrahymena pyriformis, following the mobility, the growth and the morphology of cells. Secondly, we evaluated the enzymatic activity of soluble and membrane pyrophosphatases in both species grown in the same complex medium. A decrease of cell growth is correlated with unusual morphologies and different mobility in the stress medium. The measurement of soluble and membrane inorganic pyrophosphatases activities also shows a decrease which illustrates the lack of phosphate found in the stress medium. Deficiency of phosphate is a limiting factor for protozoan growth. These results indicate that Tetrahymena can be used as a model of cellular stress and consists of a target to study inorganic pyrophosphatases for a better understanding of phosphate cycle in higher organisms.

One new hydrogenosuccinate and two succinate adduct and complex have been synthesized and studied by infrared,UV-Visible and NMR(Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy)^(119)Sn *** suggested structure is discrete,the hydrogenosuccinate behaving as a monodentate ligand or only involved in hydrogen bonding,the environment around the magnesium centre being triangular(compound 3).The succiate anion is a monochelating ligand(compound 1 and 2).In all the suggested structures,when extra hydrogen bonds are considered,supramolecular architectures are obtained(compound 2 and 3).

The development of cadmium-free CIGS solar cells with high conversion efficiency is crucial due to the toxicity of cadmium. Zinc-based buffer layers seem to be the most promising. In this paper, a numerical analysis using SCAPS-1D software was used to explore the Zn(Mg,O) layer as an alternative to the toxic CdS layer. The effect of several properties such as thickness, doping, Mg concentration of the Zn(Mg,O) layer on the current-voltage parameters was explored and their optimal values were proposed. The simulation results reveal that the optimal value of the ZMO layer thickness is approximately 40 nm, the doping at 1017 cm-3 and an Mg composition between 0.15 and 0.2. In addition, the effect of Gallium (Ga) content in the absorber as well as the Zn(Mg,O)/CIGS interface properties on the solar cell’s performance was examined. The results show that contrary to the CdS buffer layer, the best electrical characteristics of the ZMO/CIGS heterojunction are obtained using a Ga-content equal to 0.4 and high interface defect density or unfavorable band alignment may be the causes of poor performances of Zn(Mg,O)/CIGS solar cells in the case of low and high Mg-contents.
