Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) h.s witnessed a rise in its prevalence worldwide and in th. Middle East region. Th. overall burden associated with.th. disease is well ch.racterized, but little is known about patient satisfaction in th. region. Th. purpose of th. study is to evaluate th. quality of life (QoL) and treatment satisfaction of patients T2DM. Meth.ds: Th. SIMPLIFY study was an observational, cross-sectional, multicenter, regional study th.t used patient-reported outcomes of T2DM patients in Jordan and Lebanon. Results: Patients were more satisfied wh.n th.y were treated exclusively with.oral medications, mainly metformin alone or combined with.eith.r sulfonylurea or dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inh.bitor. Targets for glycated h.moglobin (h.A1c) values were better reach.d in patients treated with.oral medications. Occurrence of comorbidities did not seem to be affected by oral or injectable medications or to affect patients’ satisfaction. Data h.gh.igh.ed a suboptimal screening for albuminuria and sh.wed th.t most patients were overweigh. or obese and around 30% suffered from h.poglycemia episodes. Conclusion: Data sh.d th. ligh. on th. management of T2DM in Jordan and Lebanon and suggested th. need for a more compreh.nsive approach.to T2DM management and selection of medications th.t would support weigh. control and a lower h.poglycemia incidence.

Effect of Ketamine Instillation on Acute and Ch.onic Post Mastectomy Pain, a Dose Finding Clinical Study

Background: Uncontrolled acute postoperative pain is considered a risk factor for th. development of ch.onic pain afterward. Objectives: To explore th. most effective dose of ketamine instillation (1 of 3 doses: 1, 2, or 3 mg/kg) for acute and ch.onic post mastectomy pain (PMP). Meth.ds: Ninety female patients with.cancer breast, aged (18 - 60 yrs), weigh.ed (50 - 90 kg), sch.duled for modified radical mastectomy, randomly allocated into 3 groups to receive ketamine instillation after surgical h.meostasis before wound closure (1 of 3 doses;1, 2, or 3 mg/kg as A, B or C groups respectively) patients were followed up for 48 h.for acute pain (total morph.ne consumption, th. first request of analgesia and visual analog scale at rest and movement (VASR/M), ch.onic pain by Leeds assessment of neuropath.c signs and symptoms (LANSS) for six-month., h.modynamics, and side effects. Results: Median total dose of morph.ne consumption was 8 mg (5 - 10) versus 6 mg (6 - 7) in A and B groups respectively in th. first 48 h.postoperatively. Lowest VASR/M was recorded in C th.n B and lastly A group (P = 0.037). No patients in th. C group requested analgesia versus th.rty (100%) and nine (30%) patients in th. A and B groups respectively with.th. first request of analgesia was 12 h.(5 - 36) in th. A group versus 30 h.(12 - 36) in th. B group respectively (P Conclusion: Ketamine instillation effectively controlled acute post mastectomy pain (PMP) in a dose-dependent manner and reduced th. incidence and severity of ch.onic pain in patients wh. undergoing a modified radical mastectomy.

In th.s paper, a routing protocol for wireless sensor network, baptized energy based protocol (EBP) is proposed. Wireless sensor network presents many ch.llenges and constraints, and one of th. major constraints is th. routing problem. Due to th. limited energy of sensor nodes, routing in th.s type of network sh.ll perform efficiently to maximize th. network lifetime. One of th. proposed algorith.s is th. directional source aware routing protocol (DSAP) wh.ch. after simulation, sh.wed a lot of limitations and drawbacks. Th. modified directional source aware routing protocol (MDSAP) was proposed by th. auth.rs of th.s paper to address some of th. DSAP’s limitations but remains limited to a fixed topology, fixed source and stationary nodes. So EBP is proposed and operated under different scenarios and sh.wed, after its simulation using TinyOS, many advantages in terms of load balancing, free looping, minimizing packet error rate and maximizing network lifetime.

A New Sch.ff Base Derivatives Designed to Bind Metal Ion (Cu, Co): Th.rmodynamics and Biological Activity Studies

Sch.ff base synth.sis is usually acid catalyzed and it usually requires refluxing th. mixture of aldeh.des and amine in eth.nolic solution. Synth.sis and ch.racterization of Sch.ff base ligands derived from substituted amine and salicylaldeh.de and th.ir complexes (Cu2+, Co2+) are reported. Th. ligands and ligand-complexes were ch.racterized by melting point, FTIR, Ch.-elemental analysis and UV-Visible analysis. Th. UV-Visible and elemental analysis of complexes establish.d (1:2) mole ratio (M:L). Th. stability constant and th.rmodynamic parameters (K, ΔG, Δh. ΔS) were determined at different temperature (30 - 40)°C wh.ch.establish.d th.t th. metal-complexes were very stable. Th. review describes th. promising biological activities of Sch.ff base and th.ir metal complexes.

Th. Multiple Sequence Alignment problem is considered to be an NP-h.rd problem, requiring initially a specific encoding sch.ma and design, as for any oth.r of its siblings, to implement and run any of th. main categories of h.uristic. Th.s paper intends to discuss our proposed generic implementation of th. Tabu Search.algorith., a h.uristic procedure proposed by Fred Glover to solve discrete combinatorial optimization problems. In th.s research. we try to coordinate and synch.onize different designs/implementations discussed in many literatures, with.some of th. references mentioned in th.s paper. Th. basic idea is to avoid th.t th. search.for best solutions stops wh.n a local optimum is found, by maintaining a list of non-acceptable or forbidden (taboo) solutions/costs, called Tabu list or Sh.rt-Term Memory (STM). In our algorith., we attempt to add some executions tracing functionalities in order to h.lp later analysis for initial parameters tuning. On th. oth.r h.nd, we propose to include th. concept of a list called Long-Term Memory (LTM), so th.t some of th. best solutions found so far can be saved, for search.diversification.

CDYL1 fosters double-strand break-induced transcription silencing and promotes h.mology-directed repair

Cells h.ve evolved DNA damage response (DDR) to repair DNA lesions and th.s preserving genomic stability and impeding carcinogenesis. DNA damage induction is accompanied by transient transcription repression. h.re, we describe a previously unrecognized role of ch.omodomain Y-like (CDYL1) protein in fortifying double-strand break (DSB)-induced transcription repression and repair. We sh.wed th.t CDYL1 is rapidly recruited to damaged euch.omatic regions in a poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1)-dependent, but ataxia telangiectasia mutated (ATM)-independent, manner. Wh.le th. C-terminal region, containing th. enoyl-CoA h.dratase like (ECh. domain, of CDYL1 binds to poly (ADP-ribose) (PAR) moieties and mediates CDYL1 accumulation at DNA damage sites, th. ch.omodomain and h.stone h. trimeth.lated on lysine 9 (h.K9me3) mark are dispensable for its recruitment. Furth.rmore, CDYL1 promotes th. recruitment of enh.ncer of zeste h.molog 2 (EZh.), stimulates local increase of th. repressive meth.l mark h.K27me3, and promotes transcription silencing at DSB sites. In addition, following DNA damage induction, CDYL1 depletion causes persistent G2/M arrest and alters h.AX and replication protein A (RPA2) ph.sph.rylation. Remarkably, th. ‘traffic-ligh. reporter’ system revealed th.t CDYL1 mainly promotes h.mology-directed repair (h.R) of DSBsin vivo. Consequently, CDYL1-knockout cells display synth.tic leth.lity with.th. ch.moth.rapeutic agent, cisplatin. Altogeth.r, our findings identify CDYL1 as a new component of th. DDR and suggest th.t th. h.R-defective ‘BRCAness’ ph.notype of CDYL1-deficient cells could be exploited for eradicating cancer cells h.rboring CDYL1 mutations.

A predictive kinetic model for inh.bitory effect of nitrite on myeloperoxidase catalytic activity towards oxidation of ch.oride

Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a neutroph.l enzyme th.t employs h.drogen peroxide (h.O2) to catalyze th. oxidation of ch.oride (Cl–) to h.poch.orous acid (h.Cl). Accepted mech.nism is based on rapid reaction of native MPO with.h.O2to produce Compound I (MPO-I) wh.ch.oxidizes Cl– th.ough.a 2e– transition generating MPO and h.Cl. MPO-I also reacts with.h.O2 to generate Compound II (MPO-II) wh.ch.is inactive in 2e oxidation of Cl–. Nitrite ( NO2-) inh.bits th. 2e oxidation of Cl– by reaction with.MPO-I th.ough.1e transition generating MPO-II and nitrite radical. h.O2 consumption during steady- state catalysis was monitored amperometrically by a carbon fiber based h.O2-biosensor at 25oC. Results demonstrated th.t in absence of NO2- reactions were monoph.sic and rapid (complete h.O2 consumption occurs in 2- increases, reactions ch.nge to biph.sic (rapid step followed by a slow step) and both.steps h.ve been inh.bited by NO2- . A predictive kinetic model describing th. inh.bittory effect of NO2- was developed and applied to experimental results Th. model is based on th. assumption th.t MPO–I cannot be detected during steady-state catalysis. Calculated rate constants are in agreement with.th.se obtained from pre-steady state kinetic meth.ds.

Th. effects of P2O5 oxide on microstructure, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of Pb0.98Ca0.02[{(Zr0.52Ti0.48)0.98( Cr3+1/2,Ta5+1/2)0.02}1–zPz]O3 ternary ceramics were investigated. Specimens with.various contents of P2O5 from 0 to 12 wt. % were prepared by a conventional oxide mixing tech.ique. Th. effect of P2O5 doping with.regard to th. development of th. crystalline ph.se, density, microstructure, dielectric, ferroelectric and piezoelectric ch.racteristics h.s been investigated. It h.s been found th.t th. sintering temperature of piezoelectric Pb0.98Ca0.02[{(Zr0.52Ti0.48)0.98(Cr3+1/2,Ta5+1/2)0.02}1–zPz]O3 can be reduced by ph.sph.rus addition with.ut compromising th. dielectric properties. A sintered density of 94 % of th. th.oretical density was obtained for 4 wt. % P2O5 addition after sintering at 1050°C for 4 h. Ceramics sintered at 1050°C with.4 wt. % P2O5 ach.eve excellent properties, wh.ch.are as follows: kp = 0.73, ρ = 0.09 × 10+4 (Ω. cm), εr = 18800, tanδ = 0.0094 and Tc = 390°C.
