Introduction: Healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia face significant occupational injury risks, particularly needle stick injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents. This poses a serious threat to their health, leading to infections such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. Despite the high prevalence of injuries, awareness of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility is relatively high, with 84.0% of respondents aware of it. However, there are gaps in knowledge and implementation, as evidenced by variations in availability of PEP. Improving workplace safety measures, providing comprehensive training on injury prevention and PEP protocols, and ensuring consistent availability of PEP in healthcare facilities are crucial steps to safeguard the well-being of healthcare workers in Mogadishu, Somalia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among hospital workers in Mogadishu, Somalia, focusing on professionals from various healthcare facilities. The study targeted nurses, doctors, laboratory personnel, and pharmacists. Purposive sampling was employed, resulting in a sample size of 383 calculated using Fisher’s sample size formula. Data were collected using coded questionnaires entered into Microsoft Excel 2019 and analyzed with SPSS software to generate frequencies and proportions, presented through frequency tables and pie figures. Results: The study in Mogadishu, Somalia, examined the prevalence of occupational injuries and knowledge of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) accessibility among healthcare workers. Findings indicate a high prevalence of injuries, with 61.1% reporting incidents, predominantly needle stick injuries (60.6%). Despite the majority seeking prompt medical attention (72.0%), work-related illnesses affected 53.2% of respondents, notably work-related stress (59.5%). 许多研究表明,课堂学习环境与学生的表现之间存在着密切的联系。本研究的目的是评估高中学生对数学课堂学习环境的认知,他们对数学的态度。并且从学生的学习成绩和对数学的态度入手,进而阐释学生对课堂学习环境的认知与其表现之间的关联。笔者在6所学校中随机抽取了246名(156名男生和90名女生)还有一年即将毕业的(四年级)高中生参加了这项研究。本研究的调查问卷改编自‘班级中发生了什么’(WIHIC)问卷和‘对数学的态度’(ATMI)问卷。WIHIC用于评估学生对课堂学习环境五个维度(学生凝聚力,教师支持,参与和合作以及任务导向)的认知,并选择ATMI评估学生对数学学习的态度。此外,学生的学业成绩用其数学期中考试的成绩来衡量。数据分析采用了包括平均值和标准差的描述性统计分析,以及单样本t检验、独立样本t检验、单因素相关分析和多元线性回归分析的推论统计分析。研究表明,(1)一般来说,高中生对数学课堂学习环境有较好的认知,但他们认为课堂学习环境对教师的支持与合作相对不利;在学生对数学课堂学习环境的看法中,没有发现统计学上显著的性别差异。研究还表明,学生对数学表现出积极的态度;学生对数学的态度没有显著的性别差异。简单相关分析表明,课堂学习环境的各个维度与态度显著正相关;此外,学生的凝聚力和参与程度也与学业成绩显著正相关。多元线性回归分析显示:学生凝聚力是学生学业成绩和对数学态度的最重要的预测因素。任务导向也被发现是学生对数学态度的重要预测指标。最后,该研究为教师阐释了促进当前课堂学习环境、学生态度和学业成就的意义。

Fanconi’s Anemia—Rare Aplastic Anemia at Ten Year-Old Boy in Mogadishu-Somalia: Case Report

Fanconi’s anemia (FA) alson called Fanconi Pancytopenia is a rare, potentially life-threatening failure of haemopoiesis characterized by aplastic anemia that is associated with a variety of congenital abnormalities (Cafe-au-lait spots, abnormalities of fingers, hyperpigmentation of the skin, short stature, microcephaly, deformities of the ear, hypogenitalism, renal anomalies, etc.) and a high risk of developing of malignancy and chromosomal instability. FA is the first described in 1927 by Guido Funconi reported 3 brothers with pancytopenia and physical anomalies. The diagnosis is based on morphological abnormalities, hematologic abnormalities and genetic tests. The present case report describes a 10 years old Somali boy was diagnosed with a Fanconi anemia after recurrent blood transfusion. Though aplastic anaemia in children is an important haematological disorder, there is no study having been undertaken in Somalia and this is the first reported by the patient with Fanconi’s anemia in Somalia. We report this case to create awareness among clinicians the presence of this disease and have a consideration when it comes differentiatal diagnosis of recurrent blood transfusion patients with pancytopenia because it’s a rare genetic disease in Mogadishu and around the world.

Background: In Africa, female genital mutilation (FGM) is a widespread and harmful practice, with Somalia having the highest incidence at 98%. This practice has severe and long-lasting physical and mental health consequences. The aim of the study was to evaluate the different types of FGM;immediate and long-term complications associated with the practice, and identify factors related to its prevalence. Method: In a one-year cross-sectional hospital-based study, data were collected from females aged 18 - 50 with a history of FGM. Face-to-face semi-structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, utilizing univariate and bivariate analyses to identify correlations between variables, which were presented in tables. Results: In a study involving 255 female participants, 65.5% were between 18 and 30 years old. The majority (82.7%) were married, while 47.1% were illiterate. FGM cases were more prevalent in rural areas (61.6%). Among the participants, 45.1% were employed. Type 3 FGM was the most common (44.3%), followed by Type 2 (32.2%) and Type 1 (23.9%). In terms of short-term complications experienced by circumcised women, the most common were bleeding, reported by 29.8% of participants, followed by infection (25.1%), and urinary retention (19.2%). Among the long-term complications observed, recurrent vaginal infections were the most prevalent, affecting 29.8% of the surveyed females. This was episiotomy during delivery (22.3%) and genital scarring (10.2%). Conclusion: The study reveals that Type 3 FGM is highly prevalent among the surveyed females, contributing to an increased risk of recurrent vaginal infections, prolonged second stage of labor, higher likelihood of episiotomy during delivery, and genital scarring. These findings emphasize the urgent need for effective preventive strategies and implementation from both international and local organizations to eliminate the harmful practice of FGM.

Prevalence of Mastitis and Associated Risk Factors in Lactating Camels (Camelus Dromedarius) on Dairy Farms in Benadir Region, Somalia

The study took a comprehensive approach to understanding mastitis in lactating camels, a disease that significantly impacts milk quantity and quality. This complex and multifactorial disease poses a significant challenge to dairy camel farming, particularly in Somalia. The studys objective was to determine the prevalence of mastitis and the risk factors associated with it among lactating camels on dairy farms in Benadir, Somalia. To achieve this, a cross-sectional study was conducted from May to September 2022 in the Benadir region of Somalia. A total of 96 lactating camels underwent examination using the California Mastitis Test (CMT) to identify clinical and subclinical mastitis cases. Additionally, a questionnaire survey was conducted among 20 farm employees/owners to gather information on hygiene practices, parity, lactation stage, tick infestation, and the presence of udder/teat lesions. Data regarding parity and lactation stage were obtained through owner interviews. The data collected on specifically designed forms were recorded and entered into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for analysis using SPSS version 20 statistical software, ensuring a comprehensive and reliable analysis of the data. The studys findings revealed a significant prevalence of camel mastitis, with 34.4% (33/96) of lactating camels affected and clinical and subclinical cases constituting 5.2% and 29.2%, respectively. Quarter-level prevalence was 46.3%, with clinical and subclinical mastitis at 4.7% and 41.6%, respectively. The study also identified significant associations (P < 0.05) among risk factors such as stage of lactation, parity, and age, indicating a higher susceptibility to mastitis in older camels during early lactation compared to those in late lactation and younger camels. Vegetation Analysis and Soil Characteristics on Two Species of Genus <i>Achillea</i>Growing in Egyptian Desert

The present study provides a vegetation analysis and species distribution at 50 sites, emphasizing the environmental factors that affect species distribution. A total of 74 plant species belonging to 67 genera and related to 23 families of vascular plants are recorded. Asteraceae, Poaceae, Chenopodiaceae, Brassicaceae, Fabaceae and Zygophyllaceae are the largest families, and therophytes (41.89) and chamaephytes (24.32%) are the most frequent, indicating a typical desert life-form spectrum. Chorological analysis revealed that 25 of the studied species were Mediterranean taxa, Saharo-Sindian chorotypes, either pure or penetrated into other regions, comprised 47 species. After application of the TWINSPAN and DCA programs, 4 vegetation groups (A-D) were identified, groups A and B were dominated by Achillea santolina, group C was codominated by Zygophyllm coccinum and Launaea spinosa and group D was dominated by Leptadenia pyrotechnica. Groups A and B may represent the vegetation types of the Western Mediterranean coast of Egypt, while groups C and D may represent the Wadi Hagul. The linear correlation of soil variables with the importance values of some dominant species and the application of Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA-biplot) indicates significant associations between the floristic composition of the studied area and the edaphic factors such as electrical conductivity, pH, calcium carbonate, sulphates, bicarbonate, cations (Na+, K+, Ca++ and Mg++) and PAR.

Background:During the COVID-19 vaccination,the access to vaccines has been unequal among countries and indi‑viduals,for example low-income countries displayed signifcant low levels of ***,most refugees are living in developing low-income countries which struggling to access the essential health-care services including ***,the objective of this study was to assess the experiences and perceptions of COVID-19 infection and vaccination among Palestine refugees in Jerash camp compared to resident Jordanian ***:A face-to-face interview-based comparative cross-sectional study was carried out among Palestine refu‑gees in Jerash camp located in northern Jordan and Jordanian citizens from diferent cities in Jordan from October,2021 to March,2022.A Chi-square test was used to determine the diferences in the experiences and perceptions of COVID-19 infection and vaccination between Palestinian refugees and resident Jordanian *** regres‑sion analysis was performed to predict factors associated with the beliefs,barriers and hesitancy towards COVID-19 ***:The total number of participants was 992,with 501(50.5%)Palestinian refugees and 491(49.5%)Jordanian *** participants(64.1%)who have never been tested for COVID-19 were from the refugees(P<0.001),whereas about 80.3%of the participants tested for COVID-19 at private healthcare institutions were citizens(P<0.001).While 70.0%of the participants who tested positive for COVID-19(n=303)were from the refugees(P<0.001).Com‑pared to the citizens,the refugees had signifcantly lower levels of beliefs about the safety(P=0.008)and efciency(P<0.001)of COVID-19 *** also had lower rates of vaccine hesitancy(P=0.002)and vaccine uptake(P<0.001),and a higher rate of facing difculties during registration for COVID-19 vaccination(P<0.001).Furthermore,refugees have more negative attitudes toward the importance and implementation of COVID-19 precautionary activi
