Optofluidic Refractive Index Sensor Based on Partial Reflection

We demonstrate a novel optofluidic refractive index （RI） sensor with high sensitivity and wide dynamic range based on partial reflection. Benefited from the divergent incident light and the output fibers with different tilting angles, we have achieved highly sensitive RI sensing in a wide range from 1.33 to 1.37. To investigate the effectiveness of this sensor, we perform a measurement of RI with a resolution of ca. 5.0× 10^-5 refractive index unit （RIU） for ethylene glycol solutions. Also, we have measured a series of liquid solutions by using different output fibers, achieving a resolution of ca. 0.52mg/mL for cane surge. The optofluidic RI sensor takes advantage of the high sensitivity, wide dynamic range, small footprint, and low sample consumption, as well as the efficient fluidic sample delivery, making it useful for applications in the food industry.

A method was developed to modify silicon surfaces with good protein resistance and specific cell attachment. A silicon surface was initially deposited using a block copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone （NVP） and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate （HEMA）（PVP-b-PHEMA） film through surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization and then further immobilized using a short arginine-glycine-aspartate （RGD） peptide. Our results demonstrate that the RGD-modified surfaces （Si-RGD） can suppress non-specific adsorption of proteins and induce the adhesion of L929 cells. The Si-RGD surface exhibited higher cell proliferation rates than the unmodified silicon surface. This research established a simple method for the fabrication of dual-functional silicon surface that combines antifouling and cell attachment promotion.

To evaluate and compare the outcomes and complications of three different surgical techniques for treating primary proximal hypospadias with ventral curvature(VC)≥30°,we retrospectively reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent primary repair of proximal hypospadias with vC≥30°after degloving at Beijing Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University(Beijing,China)from January 2019 to January 2021.A total of 152 patients were divided into three groups:transverse preputial island flap(TPIF)combined with Duplay,modified Koyanagi,and staged TPIF,which were performed on 55,16,and 81 patients,respectively.A total of 39(25.7%)patients had *** rates were similar for the TPIF combined with the Duplay group(40.0%)and modified Koyanagi group(50.0%)but lower for the staged TPIF group(11.1%;P<0.01).The incidence of urethrocutaneous fistulas was significantly higher in TPIF combined with Duplay group(21.8%)compared to staged TPIF group(4.9%;P=0.01).In univariate analysis,the length of the urethral defect was the single factor that could predict complications;the cutoff was 4.55 *** patients in the long urethral defect group than in the short one had complications(34.1%vs 15.7%,P=O.O1).These results indicate that staged TPIF produced a better outcome,whereas more patients in the TPIF combined with Duplay group presented with two or more complications.

Preparation and Properties of the Heteropolyoxometalates of Large Organic Cation with Molybdotungstosilicic Acids

Some new heteropolyoxometalates of large organic cations with molybdotungstosilicic acids （general formula：（CTMA）4SiMoxW12-xO40·mH2O·nDMF, x=0,2,4,6,8,10,12） were prepared by the reaction of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide （CTMAB,C16H33N（CH3）3Br） with H4SiMoxW12-xO40（x=0,2,4,6,8,10,12） in aqueous solution and recrystallization in DMF, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra,TG- DTA and XRD techniques. The IR spectrum confirms the presence of Keggin structure and organic cations in these compounds, and it is indicated that the stretching vibration of the M-Od, M-Ob-M and Si-Oa becomes more red-shifted when molybdenum is gradually substituted for the tungsten atom. In particular, the thermal decomposition of the heteropolyoxometalates was studied in nitrogen atmosphere. The TG-DTA curves show that their thermal behaviors not only contain the release of water molecule, DMF molecule, CTMA and its fragments but also contains simultaneous collapse of Keggin anion. Their end products of the thermal decomposition are the mixture of WO3, MoO3 and SiO2. And from the final decomposition temperature of view, it is found that the thermal stability of these compounds gradually is decreased when the number of molybdenum atoms is increased.

In analyzing seismic stability of a slope with upper bound limit analysis method, the slip surface is often assumed as a log-spiral or plane slip surface. However, due to the presence of a weak layer and unfavorable geological structural surface or a bedrock interface with overlying soft strata, the preexisting slip surface of the slope may be irregular and composed of a series of planes rather than strictly logspiral or plane shape. A computational model is developed for analyzing the seismic stability of slopes with pre-existing slip surfaces. This model is based on the upper bound limit analysis method and can consider the effect of anchor bolts. The soil or rock is deemed to follow the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion. The slope is divided into multiple block elements along the slip surface. According to the displacement compatibility and the associated flow rule, a kinematic velocity field of the slope can be obtained computationally. The proposed model allows not only calculation of the rate of external work owing to the combined effect of self-weight and seismic loading, but also that of the energy dissipation rate caused by the slip surface, interfaces of block elements and anchorage effect of the anchors. Considering a direct relationship between the rate of external work and the energy dissipation rate, the expressions of yield acceleration and permanent displacement of anchored slopes can be derived. Finally, the validity of this proposed model is illustrated by analysis on three typical slopes. The results showed that the proposed model is more easily formulated and does not need to solve complex equations or time consuming iterations compared with previous methods based on the conditions of force equilibrium.

Sichuan Basin is very famous for the Mesozoic reptiles, especially the Jurassic dinosaurs. Here, we report some isolated plesiosaurian teeth and vertebrae newly excavated from the Middle Jurassic Xintiangou Formation in Yunyang county, Chongqing City, the northeastern region of the Sichuan Basin, southwestern China. The specimens are referred to Pliosauroidea based on the combination of the following features: the circular cross-section of the tooth crown, apicobasal ridges fully covering the enamel surface and reaching to the apex, the short and amphicoelous centrum, the centrum shorter than wide or tall, and the absence of a keel on the lateral surface of the cervical centrum. With the fragmentary nature, it is undetermined whether the Yunyang specimens belong to a known taxon or represent a new species of Plesiosauria. These plesiosaurian specimens further demonstrate that the freshwater plesiosaurians are common in the Jurassic deposits of the Sichuan Basin. For a comprehensive knowledge of the plesiosaurians of the basin in origin, distribution and diversity, to discover new and more complete specimens is necessarily the first priority.

A coupled one-dimensional （1-D） and two-dimensional （2-D） channel network mathematical model is proposed for flow calculations at nodes in a channel network system in this article. For the 1-D model, the finite difference method is used to discretize the Saint-Venant equations in all channels of a looped network. The Alternating Direction Implicit （ADI） method is adopted for the 2-D model at the nodes. In the coupled model, the 1-D model provides a good approximation with small computational effort, while the 2-D model is applied for complex topography to achieve a high accuracy. An Artificial Neural Network （ANN.） method is used for the data exchange and the connectivity between the 1-D and 2-D models. The coupled model is applied to the Jingjiang-Dongting Lake region, to simulate the tremendous looped channel network system, and the results are compared with field data. The good agreement shows that the coupled hydraulic model is more effective than the conventional 1-D model.
