Inter-individual differences in the responses to aerobic exercise in Alzheimer’s disease: Findings from the FIT-AD trial

Background:Despite the strong evidence of aerobic exercise as a disease-modifying treatment for Alzheimer’s disease(AD)in animal models,its effects on cognition are inconsistent in human studies.A major contributor to these findings is inter-individual differences in the responses to aerobic exercise,which was well documented in the general population but not in those with AD.The purpose of this study was to examine inter-individual differences in aerobic fitness and cognitive responses to a 6-month aerobic exercise intervention in community-dwelling older adults with mild-to-moderate dementia due to AD.Methods:This study was a secondary analysis of the Effects of Aerobic Exercise for Treating Alzheimer’s Disease(FIT-AD)trial data.Aerobic fitness was measured by the shuttle walk test(SWT),the 6-min walk test(6MWT),and the maximal oxygen consumption(VO2max)test,and cognition by the AD Assessment Scale-Cognition(ADAS-Cog).Inter-individual differences were calculated as the differences in the standard deviation of 6-month change(SDR)in the SWT,6MWT,VO2max,and ADAS-Cog between the intervention and control groups.Results:Seventy-eight participants were included in this study(77.4±6.3 years old,mean±SD;15.7±2.8 years of education;41%were female).VO2max was available for 26 participants(77.7±7.1 years old;14.8±2.6 years of education;35%were female).The SDR was 37.0,121.1,1.7,and 2.3 for SWT,6MWT,VO2max,and ADAS-Cog,respectively.Conclusion:There are true inter-individual differences in aerobic fitness and cognitive responses to aerobic exercise in older adults with mild-tomoderate dementia due to AD.These inter-individual differences likely underline the inconsistent cognitive benefits in human studies.

Fingerprints are widely acknowledged as crucial evidence for personal identification and security,among which the invisible latent fingerprints(LFPs)is one of the most common and arduous proofs in investigations of crime scenes[1].Conventional imaging techniques suffer from various limitations like low contrast and sensitivity[2],which can only recognize macroscopic features of LFPs,including shape,core,ending,bifurcation,and island(Levels 1 and 2).Alternatively,aggregation-induced emission(AIE)materials[3]have shown great potential in visualizing LFPs with microscopic details,like pores,ridges and their edges(Level 3),due to their strong fluorescence,easy functionalization,and intrinsic AIE characteristics[4].Despite these advances,several issues still hamper the practical application of AIE probes in this field:(1)organic solvents rather than environmentally more benign water are used in most cases with extended incubation time;(2)cheap,general,and colortunable probes for LFPs are still missing[5],which hampered their practical application for different scenarios;(3)in-depth understanding of the plausible mechanism for the visual imaging of LFPs at molecular level is still underdeveloped in most cases.

Load-time series data in mobile cloud computing of Internet of Vehicles(IoV)usually have linear and nonlinear composite characteristics.In order to accurately describe the dynamic change trend of such loads,this study designs a load prediction method by using the resource scheduling model for mobile cloud computing of IoV.Firstly,a chaotic analysis algorithm is implemented to process the load-time series,while some learning samples of load prediction are constructed.Secondly,a support vector machine(SVM)is used to establish a load prediction model,and an improved artificial bee colony(IABC)function is designed to enhance the learning ability of the SVM.Finally,a CloudSim simulation platform is created to select the perminute CPU load history data in the mobile cloud computing system,which is composed of 50 vehicles as the data set;and a comparison experiment is conducted by using a grey model,a back propagation neural network,a radial basis function(RBF)neural network and a RBF kernel function of SVM.As shown in the experimental results,the prediction accuracy of the method proposed in this study is significantly higher than other models,with a significantly reduced real-time prediction error for resource loading in mobile cloud environments.Compared with single-prediction models,the prediction method proposed can build up multidimensional time series in capturing complex load time series,fit and describe the load change trends,approximate the load time variability more precisely,and deliver strong generalization ability to load prediction models for mobile cloud computing resources.

An air-rail inter-modal strategy for aircraft recovery

It is common that airlines encounter a disruption of a flight schedule,which is mainly caused by resource shortages.In case of a disruption,subject to scarce resources,most of airlines lose flexibility of performing aircraft recovery on the basis of business interest priorities and need to delay,swap,and cancel flights.This paper proposes an air-rail inter-modal strategy to incorporate a High-Speed Rail(HSR)transport mode into an aviation network for aircraft recovery.The air-rail inter-modal strategy focuses on occasionally operational integration of existing airside and HSR infrastructure capacities.It is different from air-rail cooperation implemented in Europe which emphasizes a long-term strategy.In addition to modelling the air-rail inter-modal strategy,an inter-modal time-band network is presented.Modelling is applied to a pure aviation network and the inter-modal network.Comparison results show that the inter-modal air-rail strategy helps to reduce the number of cancelled flights and the total disruption cost.

Rechargeable Mg batteries have attracted much attention in the past decade due to their high theoretical energy density and low production cost,in which the electrolyte is the key component that determines the overall performance.Applying solid Mg-ion electrolytes brings many benefits to rechargeable Mg bat-teries,which can improve safety under aggressive conditions and open opportunities for new electrode applications.After extensive investigations,researchers make major breakthroughs in the solid Mg-ion electrolyte field,especially in terms of Mg-ion conductivities.However,the development of solid-state Mg batteries is still at the early stage since their stable cycling has not been achieved yet.In this review,we introduce the Mg-ion conducting properties of current solid Mg-ion electrolytes,and then summarize the performances of corresponding solid-state Mg batteries.In addition,we provide a discussion on the application potentials and future directions of each type of solid Mg-ion electrolytes that are applied in solid-state Mg batteries.

Carbon Isotope Stratigraphy of the Cambrian System in the Eastern Tarim Basin,China

The ultra-deep Cambrian System in the Tarim Basin is an important field for petroleum exploration,while fine division of the Cambrian strata remains controversial.In recent years,carbon isotope stratigraphy of the Cambrian System has been established and widely used.Here,we report an integrated profile of carbonate and organic carbon isotopic values(δ^(13)C_(carb)andδ^(13)C_(org))from cuttings of the Tadong2 Well in the eastern Tarim Basin.Three carbon isotope anomalies of BACE,ROECE and SPICE were recognized on theδ^(13)C_(carb)profile.Three apogees and a nadir on theδ^(13)C_(org)profile and the onset of ROECE on theδ^(13)C_(carb)profile were suggested as boundaries of the present four series of the Cambrian System.Suggested boundaries are easily identifiable on the gamma logging profile and is consistent with the previous division scheme,based on biostratigraphic evidence in outcrop sections.Abnormal carbon cycle perturbations and organic carbon burials during the BACE and SPICE events might be related to the reduction and expansion of a huge dissolved organic carbon reservoir in the deep ocean of the ancient Tarim Basin.

Research on the Efficient Computation Mechanism-in the Case of N-vehicle Exploration Problem

The research of efficient computation focus on special structures of NP-hard problem instances and request providing reasonable computing cost of instances in polynomial time. Based on the theory of combinatorial optimization, by studying the clusters partition and the clusters complexity measurement in Nvehicle exploration problem, we build a frame of efficient computation and provide an application of tractability for NP-hard problem. Three N-vehicle examples show that when we use efficient computation mechanism on N-vehicle, through polynomial steps of tractability analysis, decision makers can get the computing cost of searching optimal solution before practical calculation.

An object is usually composed of different features(e.g.,color,orientation,and motion),which are processed by segregated visual pathways and represented by functionally specialized brain areas.However,we perceive an object as a coherent whole,rather than its isolated features.How we integrate those isolated features and achieve a precise perception of objects is a fundamental challenge for the visual system,which is referred to as the binding problem.
