Effect of Seasonality on Distribution of Macroalgae in a Stream System(Xin'an Spring) in Shanxi Province,North China

A survey of the seasonal distribution of macroalgae in a stream system in Shanxi Province, north China, was undertaken from July 2004 to April 2005. The relative abundance and percentage cover of macroalgae, and several environmental factors were monitored along a 20-m stretch at each of four sites, at intervals of approximately three months （one sampling per season）. Several stream conditions were relatively constant over the sampling period （pH, maximum width and maximum depth）, whereas others exhibited a distinct seasonal pattern （water temperature and specific conductance）, and some fluctuated with no discernable seasonal pattern （current velocity and dissolved oxygen）. Forty-two species of macroalgae were found, with a predominance of Chlorophyta （26 species, 61.9%）. Rhodophyts and Charophyta represented the smallest proportion （1 species each, 2.38%）. Six macroalgae species were the most widespread, occurring in all four sampling sites. Twelve species were found at only one site each. In terms of seasonality, eight species occurred throughout the year, whereas 16 species were found in only one season each. The macroalgal community at Xin＇an Spring was species rich relative to other streams. Species richness per sampling site was negatively correlated with pH. Principal component analysis revealed that no single variable had much influence on the macroalgal seasonal dynamics. We calculated Sorensen similarity indices to compare our study with other continent-wide surveys of stream macroalgae, but the similarity indices were all very low. This study also shows that macroalgae in different locations have significant reproductive isolation.

As cathodes,iron-series(Fe,Co,Ni)clusters supported by carbon materials exhibit outstanding electrocatalytic reduction activities in many electrocatalytic *** date,this general characteristic of ironseries clusters that should be related to the inherent attributes of these electrodes has not been fully understood from the perspectives of thermodynamics and electronic structure *** transport is a necessary process in electrocatalysis,and therefore,the study of the change of the electronic state in electron transport is beneficial for understanding this general characteristic of iron-series cluster *** this work,the electron transport properties,including the conductivity and transport spin-polarization at the Ni-cluster/graphene interface are carefully investigated as an example of carbon-supported iron-series *** first-principles calculations within the framework of the nonequilibrium Green’s function density functional theory(NEGF-DFT),we reveal that the electronic transport states of the coupled Ni-cluster/graphene are strongly changed compared to those of their isolated Ni-cluster and graphene *** is found that graphene dominates the overall conductivity of the interface,while the morphology of Ni-clusters controls the spin polarization *** spin polarization can lead to the self-excitation effect of the electrons that raises the energy of the electronic system,improves the thermodynamics of the reduction reaction and promotes catalytic *** work hints that iron-series elements(Fe,Co,Ni)based electrodes may generally show transport polarization that is likely to give rise to a high electrocatalytic reduction activity and such transport polarizability can be used as a new factor in the further exploration and design for electrocatalytic materials.

As China’s socio-economic development is entering into a transitioning era,urban residents’demands are becoming more diversified,complicated,and *** to address issues regarding community environmental renovation,infrastructure and facilities constructions,and efficient public service supplies,measures should be adopted to adjust the urban community governance model in China to face emergent *** this background,this paper argues that the"participating actors,""community management and organization framework,""related laws,regulations,and policies,"and"resources allocation and management"are the four crucial dimensions in urban community *** then adopted these four underpinnings as the theoretical framework to unravel the complex dynamics of community governance in contemporary urban *** paper argues that the current community governance system falls short in accommodating the growing demands of community development due to"ambiguity of participating actors,""excessive administrative intervention on community management,""insufficient legislation supports,"and a"deficiency in financing management system."Therefore,this paper argues that through the pluralization of public participation,diversification of community organization modes,and the enhancement of participation accessibility,community governance performance in urban China could be drastically ***,a pluralistic and participatory community governance model is proposed in this paper to provide additional policy implications for community governance in urban China.

Comparison of diagnostic validity of two autism rating scales for suspected autism in a large Chinese sample

Residual Characteristics of Organochlorine Pesticides in Lou Soils with Different Fertilization Modes

Soll samples with three fertilization treatments （no fertilizer, corn straw and farm manure） collected from a Lou soil （Eum-orthic Anthrosol classfied using Chinese Soil Taxonomy） in northwestern China were analysed for residual levels and their characteristics of organochlorine pesticides （α-HCH, β-HCH,γ-HCH, δ-HCH, HCB, o, p＇-DDT, p, p＇-DDT, o, p＇- DDE, p,p＇-DDE, p,p＇-DDD, α-endosulfan, dieldrin and endrin）. Organochlorine pesticides （OCPs） were detected in all soil samples except δ-HCH and their total concentrations ranged from 159.31 ± 9.00 to 179.77 ± 2.58 ng g^-1 with an order of HCHs 〉 DDTs 〉（dieldrin ＋ endrin）〉 HCB 〉 α-endosulfan. Among all the compounds, γ-HCH had the highest concentration followed by p, p＇-DDE. The residual levels of HCH isomers and DDT as well as their metabolites in soil with different fertilization treatments were in the order of γ-HCH 〉β-HCH ≈ α-HCH 〉 δ-HCH and p,p’-DDE 〉 p, p’-DDT 〉 o,p＇-DDT 〉 p, p＇-DDD ≈ o, p＇-DDE, respectively. DDE/DDT ratios ranged from 1.59 ± 0.13 to 3.35± 0.16 and endrin/dieldrin ratios from 1.40 ±0.06 to 9.20± 4.05, both indicating no new occurrence of these pesticides in these soils, while α-HCH/γ-HCH ratios of 0.04 indicated a new input of lindane （almost pure γ-HCH） in the past several years. The farm manure treatments showed lower DDT residues than samples without fertilizer. Also addition of corn straw and farm manure increased soil organic matter content and decreased the soil pH which could retard the degradation of DDT in the soil.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are small particles containing various molecules that mediate cell to cell communications in micro-environments. Exosomes are the smallest-sized EVs. With adequate research, exosomes play an important role in the development of many cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), including atherosclerosis, myocardial ischemia, acute coronary syndrome, heart failure. However, studies of exosomes in hypertension report relatively fewer. This review aims to summarize the current progress of exosomes in the progression of hypertension, with emphasis on kidney sodium transport, cell to cell communications, cardiovascular remodeling and vascular calcification.

Objective:ToAortic aneurysm (AA) is the permanent, irreversible, asymmetrical arterial dilation to at least 50% of the normal diameter. Aortic dissection (AD) may occur when the aorta enlarges to reach the tensile limit, which is the most lethal condition because of its rapid progression and high mortality. There is no doubt that inflammation is involved in the pathogenesis of AA and AD. Inflammasome, a large multi-protein complex in the cytosol regulating interleukin-1β (IL-1β) production, has critical roles on the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases. This review aims to summarize the current progress of the inflammasomes on AA/AD-related proteins and signal pathways to further explore the role of the inflammasomes in the progression of AA and AD.

Predictive model for acute abdominal pain after transarterial chemoembolization for liver cancer
