Multiple neurofibromas plus fibrosarcoma with familial NF1 pathogenicity:A case report

BACKGROUND Neurofibromatosis(NF)is a genetic disease consisting of seven types,of which types 1 to 4 are caused by a dominant autosomal gene mutation;such disease sometimes arises in patients with NF type ***,it remains unclear whether the origin of neurofibrosarcoma is directly linked to the incidence of NF type 1,as no reports have been published on this ***,we report a case of NF1-positive multiple neurofibromas with malignant fibrosarcomatous transformation in the pleural *** SUMMARY A 51-year-old male was admitted to our hospital due to fever accompanied by coughing,chest tightness and asthma for more than one *** preliminary diagnosis was NF type 1,which was pathologically confirmed by a subsequent thoracoabdominal subcutaneous *** definitive diagnosis was neurofibrosarcoma with a pathogenic NF1 *** patient refused surgery and chemoradiotherapy,and died two months *** is a genetic disease consisting of seven types,of which types 1 to 4 are caused by a dominant autosomal gene *** case reported belongs to the class of NF1-positive dominant *** is a malignant tumor derived from cells surrounding the peripheral ***,due to the lack of previous reports,it remains unclear whether the origin of neurofibrosarcoma is directly linked to the incidence of NF type *** We report the first case of NF1-positive multiple neurofibromas with malignant fibrosarcomatous transformation in the pleural cavity.

Two New Piperazine Templated Lanthanide Sulfates with 2D Corrugated Layered Crystal Structures

Two new piperazine templated lanthanide sulfates （C4N2HI2）1.5[Ln（SO4）3（H20）]H20[Ln=Gd（1）, Tb（2）] have been synthesized solvothermally and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction（XRD）, infrared（IR） spectroscopy, thermal analysis, fluorescent spectra and inductively coupled plasma（ICP）. Single crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that both compounds 1 and 2 crystallized in the monoclinic crystal system, with space group P2t/c and cell dimensions： a=0.64468（19） nm, b=2.9979（9） nm, c=0.9818（3） nm, fl=101.271（4）, V=l.8608（10） nm3, Z=4 for compound 1; a=0.64259（19） nm, b=3.0010（9） rim, c=0.9812（3） nm, fl=101.229（4）, V=1.8560（10） nm3, Z=4 for compound 2. Compounds 1 and 2 are isomorphous and have similar 2D corrugated inorganic frameworks fabricated via the connection of single chains and $204 groups, while fully protonated piperazine cations and water molecules are located between the inorganic layers. The solid state luminescent properties of compound 2 were investigated and it displayed a typical luminescent property of Tb3＋ with excitation wavelength at 371 nm.

Effect of elevated CO_2 concentration on photosynthetic characteristics of hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii under cadmium stress

The combined effects of elevated CO2 and cadmi- um （Cd） on photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll fluorescence and Cd accumulation in hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii Hance were investigated to predict plant growth under Cd stress with rising atmospheric CO2 concentration. Both pot and hydroponic experiments were conducted and the plants were grown under ambient （350 μL L^-1） or elevated （800μL L^-1） CO2. Elevated CO2 significantly （P 〈 0.05） increased Pn （105%- 149%）, Pnmax （38.8%-63.0%） and AQY （20.0%-34.8%） of S. alfredii in all the Cd treatments, but reduced chlorophyll concentra- tion, dark respiration and photorespiration. After lo days growth in medium with 50 μM Cd under elevated CO2, PSII activities were significantly enhanced （P 〈 0.05） with Pm, Fv/ Fm, φ（Ⅱ） and qP increased by 66.1%, 7.5%, 19.5% and 16.47o, respectively, as compared with ambient-grown plants. Total Cd uptake in shoot of S. alfredii grown under elevated CO2 wasincreased by 44.1%-48-5%, which was positively correlated with the increase in Pn. These results indicate that elevated CO2 promoted the growth of S. alfredii due to increased photosynthetic carbon uptake rate and photosynthetic light- use efficiency, and showed great potential to improve the phytoextraction of Cd by 5. alfredii.

ZERNIKE ASTIGMATISM AND VISUAL PERFORMANCE IN MYOPIC EYES BY RIGID GAS PERMEABLE CONTACT LENSES WEAR

To investigate the effects of rigid-gas-permeable contact lens(RGP-CL)wear on Zernike astigmatism and visual performance in myopic ***:A wavefront sensor was used to evaluate Zernike astigmatism for 21 eyes with minimum astigmatism and 18 eyes with moderate astigmatism under three different modes of refractive correction:the RGP-CL,spectacle lens correcting spherical equivalent(SL)and spectacle lens fully correcting spherical error and astigmatism(fSL).Contrast visual acuity was assessed with a VA tester at four contrast levels and two luminance ***:Compared to the SL wear,RGP-CL wear changed the main axis astigmatism(Z_(2)^(2))from0:09-0:34 to 0.34-0.22 for the minimum astigmatism group,while the contrast VA was improved about 0.05 LogMAR(F=8:06,p<0:01).For the group with moderate astigmatism,significant reduction in Z_(2)^(2)was found for both fSL wear(t=4:78,p<0:001)and RGP-CL wear(t=6:29,p<0:0001).The changes in astigmatism were significantly correlated between the fSL and RGP-CL wears(r=0:897,p<0:0001 for Z_(2)^(-2);and r=0:643,p=0:004 for Z_(2)^(2)).Contrast VA was significantly improved for both fSL and RGP-CL wears and the improvements were significantly correlated between each other for all four contrast levels and two ***:RGP-CL wear induces astigmatism for the eyes with minor astigmatism probably due to a correction of corneal astigmatism and thus a manifesting of the lens *** the astigmatic eyes,RGP-CL wear has similar effect on correcting astigmatism as the spectacle lens wear with spherical-cylinder correction and also produces similar visual improvement.

Adaptive Shape Control for Thermal Deformation of Membrane Mirror with In-plane PVDF Actuators

Optical membrane mirrors are promising key components for future space telescopes. Due to their ultra-thin and high flexible properties, the surfaces of these membrane mirrors are susceptible to temperature variations. Therefore adaptive shape control of the mirror is essential to maintain the surface precision and to ensure its working performance. However, researches on modeling and control of membrane mirrors under thermal loads are sparse in open literatures. A 0.2 m diameter scale model of a polyimide membrane mirror is developed in this study. Three Polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) patches are laminated on the non-reflective side of the membrane mirror to serve as in-plane actuators. A new mathematical model of the piezoelectric actuated membrane mirror in multiple fields,(i.e., thermal,mechanical, and electrical field) is established, with which dynamic and static behaviors of the mirror can be analyzed.A closed-loop membrane mirror shape control system is set up and a surface shape control method based on an influence function matrix of the mirror is then investigated. Several experiments including surface displacement tracking and thermal deformation alleviation are performed. The deviations range from 15 μm to 20 μm are eliminated within 0.1 s and the residual deformation is controlled to micron level, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed membrane shape control strategy and shows a satisfactory real-time performance. The proposed research provides a technological support and instruction for shape control of optical membrane mirrors.

Restin,a member of melanoma-associated antigen superfamily gene,was first cloned from differentiated leukemia cell induced by all trans-retinoic acid,and was able to inhibit cell proliferation,but the molecular mechanism was not *** Restin was localized in cell nucleus,and its homolog member,Necdin(neuronal growth suppressor factor),could interact with transcription factors p53 and E2F1,we proposed that Restin might also function as Necdin through interacting with some transcription *** this study,transcription factors p53,AP1,ATFs and E2Fs were cloned and used in the mammalian two-hybrid system to identify their in-teraction with *** results showed that only ATF3 had a strong interaction with *** is interesting to know that ATF3 was an important transcription factor for G1 cell cycle initiation in physiological stress *** was possible that the inhibition of cell proliferation by Restin might be related with the inhibition of ATF3 activity.

Anchoring Iron-EDTA Complex on Graphene toward the Synthesis of Highly Efficient Fe-N-C Oxygen Reduction Electrocatalyst for Fuel Cells

Developing nonprecious carbon electrocatalysts as alternatives to platinum for cathodic oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells is of signifi- cance. Herein, an efficient precursor-controlled synthesis strategy based on extremely rapid nucleation and deposition process assisted by the liquid nitrogen freeze drying method is explored to anchor cheap iron-EDTA complex evenly dispersed on graphene to realize mJcrostructural homogeneity of the derived Fe-N-C oxygen reduction electrocatalyst. The prepared electrocatatyst possesses excellent performance including high activity with more positive onset and half-wave potential, a long-term stability, and anti-poisoning effect compared to commercial Pt/C. The activity correlates well with the unique sheet-shaped morphology, high surface area, hierarchical porous structure, and the introduction of Fe-Nx/C species. Especially, both the assembled practical alkaline and acid fuel cells based on the synthesized cathode catalysts reveal excellent performance with high open-circuit voltage and power density.

PCR-RFLP and AP-PCR of rbcL and ITS of rDNA Show That × Taxodiomeria peizhongii （ Taxodium × Cryptomeria） Is not an Intergeneric Hybrid

Taxodiorneria peizhongii Z. J. Ye, J. J. Zhang et S. H. Pan was regarded as a new Intergenerlc hybrid between Taxodlum mucronatum Tenore （as the female donor） and Cryptomeria fortunei Hoolbrenk ex Otto et Dletr （as the male donor）. To confirm the authenticity of the intergeneric hybrid, we analyzed the rbcL gene and the Internal transcribed spacer （ITS） of 26S-18S ribosomal RNA gene of the three species using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism （PCR-RFLP） and arbitrarily primed PCR （AP-PCR）, and ob- tained the following results：i） Taxodiomeria peizhongii had the same RFLP maps of the rbcL gene and the ITS as Taxodlum mucronatum, but was different from C. fortunei; II） a 311-bp PCR amplification product was obtained In C. fortunei by AP-PCR of ITS, but was not found in Taxodiomeria peizhongii. Our results have demonstrated that C. fortunei did not provide any genome for Taxodiomeria peizhongii, Implying that T. peizhongii Is not an Intergenerlc hybrid between the two species.
