We present an error-detected hyperparallel Toffoli(hyper-Toffoli)gate for a three-photon system based on the interface between polarized photon and cavity-nitrogen-vacancy(NV)center system.This hyper-Toffoli gate can be used to perform double Toffoli gate operations simultaneously on both the polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedom(DoFs)of a three-photon system with a low decoherence,shorten operation time,and less quantum resources required,in compared with those on two independent three-photon systems in one DoF only.As the imperfect cavity-NVcenter interactions are transformed into the detectable failures rather than infidelity based on the heralding mechanism of detectors,a near-unit fidelity of the quantum hyper-Toffoli gate can be implemented.By recycling the procedures,the efficiency of our protocol for the hyper-Toffoli gate is improved further.Meanwhile,the evaluation of gate performance with achieved experiment parameters shows that it is feasible with current experimental technology and provides a promising building block for quantum compute.

Wantong Jingu Tablet(WJT),a mixture of traditional Chinese medicine,was reported to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis(RA),but its pharmacological mechanism was not completely understood.The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic mechanisms of WJT for RA in vivo.The effects of WJT on joint pathology,as well as the levels of Bax,Bcl-2,caspase-3,cleaved-caspase-3,ERK1/2,pERK1/2,TNF-α,IL-1β,and IL-6 were measured using collagen-induced arthritis(CIA)rats.The intestinal flora composition and the metabolites alteration were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolomics method,respectively.We found that WJT ameliorated the severity of the CIA rats which might be mediated by inducing apoptosis,inactivating the MEK/ERK signals and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.WJT,in part,relieved the gut microbiota dysbiosis,especially bacterial phylum Bacteroidetes,Tenericutes and Deferribacteres,as well as bacterial genus Vibrio,Macrococcus and Vagococcus.3’-N-debenzoyl-2’-deoxytaxol,tubulysin B,and magnoline were significantly associated with the specific genera.We identified serotonin,glutathione disulfide,N-acetylneuraminic acid,naphthalene and thromboxane B2 as targeted molecules via metabolomics.Our findings contributed to the understanding of RA pathogenesis,and WJT played essential roles in gut microbiota health and metabolite modulation in the CIA rats.

When an explosion occurs close to or partially within the face of a concrete structure, fragments are rapidly launched from the opposite face of the structure owing to concrete spalling, posing a significant risk to nearby personnel and equipment. To study the lead fragment velocity of ultra-high-performance concrete(UHPC), partially embedded explosion experiments were performed on UHPC slabs of limited thickness using a cylindrical trinitrotoluene charge. The launch angles and velocities of the resulting fragments were the determined using images collected by high-speed camera to document the concrete spalling and fragment launching process. The results showed that UHPC slabs without fiber reinforcement had a fragment velocity distribution of 0-118.3 m/s, which are largely identical to that for a normal-strength concrete(NSC) slab. In addition, the fragment velocity was negatively correlated to the angle between the velocity vector and vertical direction. An empirical Eq. for the lead spall velocity of UHPC and NSC slabs was then proposed based on a large volume of existing experimental data.

To improve the scanning speed of an atomic force microscopy(AFM),a smooth scanning pattern is elaborately devised via trajectory shaping in this paper,so as to achieve fast imaging without hardware modification.Specifically,in the proposed scanning method,the piezoelectric actuator tracks a well-designed smooth periodic signal in x-direction,and simultaneously tracks a step signal in y-direction.The advantage of the proposed method is that it does not require additional data reprocessing to construct the morphology of the sample surface,while significantly increasing the scanning bandwidth restricted by the raster scanning method.Particularly,to directly utilize the height data collected by scanning to produce the sample morphology,the forward process in the common raster scanning mode is retained in the proposed method,the tracking signal in the forward process is thus set to a ramp function in x-direction.In addition,to ensure the continuity and smoothness of the entire tracking signal in x-direction,a segment of a sine curve is uniquely determined as the backward tracking signal by position and acceleration constraints,so as to ensure that the forward and backward curves are continuous and acceleration-continuous at the intersection point.Moreover,the frequency spectrum analysis of the designed smooth signal is carried out to exhibit the depressed amplitudes of high-frequency components,which demonstrates that the proposed method is able to reduce the resonance in AFM high-speed scanning,so as to improve the capacity of rapidly generating high-quality images.Finally,convincing comparison experiments are implemented to verify the imaging performance of the designed scanning algorithm.

The ability to discriminate species and recognize individuals is crucial for reproductive success and/or survival in most animals.However,the temporal order and neural localization of these decision-making processes has remained unclear.In this study,event-related potentials(ERPs)were measured in the telencephalon,diencephalon,and mesencephalon of the music frog Nidirana daunchina.These ERPs were elicited by calls from 1 group of heterospecifics(recorded from a sympatric anuran species)and 2 groups of conspecifics that differed in their fundamental frequencies.In terms of the polarity and position within the ERP waveform,auditory ERPs generally consist of 4 main components that link to selective attention(N1),stimulus evaluation(P2),identification(N2),and classification(P3).These occur around 100,200,250,and 300 ms after stimulus onset,respectively.Our results show that the N1 amplitudes differed significantly between the heterospecific and conspecific calls,but not between the 2 groups of conspecific calls that differed in fundamental frequency.On the other hand,the N2 amplitudes were significantly different between the 2 groups of conspecific calls,suggesting that the music frogs discriminated the species first,followed by individual identification,since N1 and N2 relate to selective attention and stimuli identification,respectively.Moreover,the P2 amplitudes evoked in females were significantly greater than those in males,indicating the existence of sexual dimorphism in auditory discrimination.In addition,both the N1 amplitudes in the left diencephalon and the P2 amplitudes in the left telencephalon were greater than in other brain areas,suggesting left hemispheric dominance in auditory perception.Taken together,our results support the hypothesis that species discrimination and identification of individual characteristics are accomplished sequentially,and that auditory perception exhibits differences between sexes and in spatial dominance.

In orthopedic surgery,the accuracy of internal fixation is related to the success of the procedure.In the past,orthopedic surgeons usually placed screws freehand according to anatomical landmarks or fluoroscopy images.Although there are many surgical techniques for inserting screws freehand,the accuracy of freehand screw placement is not high enough,and the results can be unstable.The accuracy of freehand screw placement reported in the literature varies greatly.Particularly in the spine,with its unique anatomy and important adjacent tissues,inaccurate screw placement may lead to serious complications,such as nerve or vessel injury,cerebrospinal fluid leakage,thoracic or abdominal organ injury,and segment instability.Surgeons must undergo extensive professional training and accumulate in-depth surgical experience to reduce the incidence of inaccurate screw placement.

Transcranial direct current stimulation(tDCS)is a noninvasive technique that uses constant,low-intensity direct current to regulate brain activities.Clinical studies have shown that cathode-tDCS(c-tDCS)is effective in reducing seizure frequency in patients with epilepsy.Due to the heterogeneity and patient specificity of seizures,patient-specific epilepsy networks are increasingly important in exploring the regulatory role of c-tDCS.In this study,we first set the left hippocampus,parahippocampus,and amygdala as the epileptogenic zone(EZ),and the left inferior temporal cortex and ventral temporal cortex as the initial propagation zone(PZ)to establish a large-scale epilepsy network model.Then we set tDCS cathode locations according to the maximum average energy of the simulated EEG signals and systematically study c-tDCS inhibitory effects on the propagation of epileptic activity.The results show that c-tDCS is effective in suppressing the propagation of epileptic activity.Further,to consider the patient specificity,we set specific EZ and PZ according to the clinical diagnosis of 6 patients and establish patient-specific epileptic networks.We find that c-tDCS can suppress the propagation of abnormal activity in most patient-specific epileptic networks.However,when the PZ is widely distributed in both hemispheres,the treatment effect of c-tDCS is not satisfactory.Hence,we propose dual-cathode tDCS.For epilepsy models with a wide distribution of PZ,it can inhibit the propagation of epileptiform activity in other nodes except EZ and PZ without increasing the tDCS current strength.Our results provide theoretical support for the treatment of epilepsy with tDCS.
