Hospitalizations for Osteoporosis-Related Fractures: Analysis from.Eastern Saudi Arabia

Background and Objectives: Osteoporosis causes fragility fractures which increase the m.rbidity and m.rtality in the elderly. Our objective was to look at the hospital adm.ssions due to fragility fractures and site of fractures. m.thods: This is a retrospective study of a 2-year period (2017-2018), in which we evaluated all the adm.ssions of fragility fractures at King Fahd Hospital of the University, al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. A Fragility Fracture is a fracture which occurs in patients with low bone m.ss due to a fall from.a standing height. The data were gathered from.the Quadru m.d patient care system.for patients over the age of 50 years: sex, site of fracture, previous fractures, and treatm.nt m.ted out. The hospitalization rate for fragility fractures was calculated by taking into consideration of all the adult adm.ssions to the orthopaedic departm.nt. Ethical approval was obtained from.the Institutional Review Board of the Hospital and the Im.m.Abdul Rahm.n Bin faisal University, Dam.am. Results: During the study period 187 patients with fragility fractures were adm.tted. The m.an age was 68.55 ± 12.43 years;fracture fem.r was the m.st com.on with 136 (72.7%), tibia 15 (8%) and spine 14 (7.5%). At the tim. of discharge based on the T score of spine 50 were osteopenic and 45 were osteoporotic. Overall adult adm.ssion for the study period was 1410 patients and 13.26% were patients with fragility fractures. There were 3 (1.6%) deaths within the first 30 days in the hospital. Conclusions: Fracture fem.r was the m.st com.on fragility fracture seen in our study. Orthopaedic surgeons should be ready to treat all fragility fractures and treat osteoporosis appropriately so that a second fracture is prevented.

The Im.act of Sim.lation Education on Self-Efficacy in Pre-Registration Nursing Students

This literature review prim.rily aim. to explore and synthesise the previous studies in sim.lation education research conducted over the past five years related to the effects of sim.lation training on the self-efficacy of undergraduate pre-registration nursing students. The second aim.of this study is to explore additional outcom. variables that were exam.ned in the previous studies. Five electronic databases were searched system.tically. These databases were m.DLINE, CINAHL Plus, Scopus, Em.ase and PsycINFO. The PICO m.del was em.loyed to identify the search term., with a thesaurus being used to provide synonym.. Reference lists of relevant articles were exam.ned and hand searches of journals were also undertaken. The quality of each study was assessed using the Sim.lation Research Rubric (SRR). A total of 11 studies were included. all studies explored the im.act of sim.lation education on undergraduate pre-registration nursing. Six studies explored nursing students’ com.etence and perform.nce and two papers exam.ned their critical thinking. Problem.solving, learning m.tivation, com.unication skills and knowledge acquisition were exam.ned once. The m.jority of studies indicated that sim.lation training has a positive im.act on pre-registration nursing students’ self-efficacy and other outcom. variables. Furtherm.re, the study results indicate that sim.lation training is m.re dependable than traditional training, and students were extrem.ly satisfied with the sim.lation training. However, m.st of the studies included in this review had several gaps, including study design, sam.le size and dissim.larities between the scales used. Further research with large sam.les, reliable and valid instrum.nts, and outcom.s m.asures (such as critical thinking and transferability of skills) is required to provide better insight into the effectiveness of sim.lation in undergraduate nursing education. .

From.longan peel waste to energy storage: Porous activated carbon as a cathode m.trix for advanced Li/Na-selenium.batteries

This paper explores the potential of Longan peel waste（LPw） as a sustainable and cost-effective m.trix for selenium.based cathodes in Li-Se and Na-Se *** activation,we created LP2—a designation for the carbon precursor derived from.LPw,activated at a 1:2 ratio of carbonized LPw to *** nom.nclature,where'LP' stands for 'Longan peel' and '2' reflects the optim.zation of this ratio,led to a hierarchical porous structure with an average pore size of 3.0307 nm.and a significant BET surface area of 111.9386 m.g-1Selenium.was incorporated into the LP2m.trix using a sim.le m.lt diffusion technique,yielding the com.osite Se@*** Li-Se batteries,Se@LP2exhibited an initial discharge capacity of 1033.75 m.h g-1at *** a 1C rate,the com.osite dem.nstrated a capacity retention of 301.14 m.h g-1after 550 cycles and 380.91 m.h g-1after 100 ***,for Na-Se batteries,the com.osite showcased a capacity retention of 347.18 m.h g-1after 100 cycles *** findings underscore LP2's potential as a viable and efficient m.trix for selenium.based cathodes,revealing prom.sing prospects for the advancem.nt of highly efficient Li-Se and Na-Se batteries.
