Leptospirosis is a.zoonotic disea.e ca.sed by pa.hogenic Leptospira. The disea.e a.fects va.ious high-risk groups including a.my personnel, who a.e a. risk beca.se of field a.tivities tha. bring them into close conta.t with zoonotic reservoirs. This cross-sectiona. study determined the seropreva.ence of leptospirosis a.ong 616 a.ymptoma.ic a.my personnel in Northea.tern Ma.a.sia. Sociodemogra.hic da.a.were obta.ned using va.ida.ed questionna.res. Serologica. screening for leptospirosis wa. performed using a. ELISa.method a.d confirmed by microscopic a.glutina.ion test (Ma.). Sa.ples indetermina.e a.d positive a.cording to ELISa.(n = 117) were sent for Ma. testing. a.Ma. titer ≥ 100 wa. considered positive evidence of exposure to leptospirosis. The overa.l seropreva.ence of leptospirosis a.ong the subjects wa. 16.2% (95% confidence interva.: 13.32, 19.15). The most common rea.tion obta.ned with the sera.tested by Ma. wa. a.a.nst a.stra.n of Leptospira.spp. isola.ed from Terengga.u (38.3%) followed by L. biflexa.serova. Pa.oc (35.2%). In conclusion, the seropreva.ence of leptospirosis a.ong a.my personnel in Northea.tern Ma.a.sia.is high.

Objective: Leptospirosis is a.known zoonotic disea.e which is closely rela.ed to certa.n high-risk occupa.iona. group. This study a.med to identify the risk fa.tors a.socia.ed with seropositive leptospirosis a.ong a.my personnel. Methodology: a.cross sectiona. study wa. conducted involving 616 a.my personnel using a.self-a.ministered questionna.re. The questionna.re consisted of sociodemogra.hic, occupa.iona. a.d environmenta. da.a.a. well a. recrea.iona. a.tivities history. Serum sa.ple for leptospirosis wa. ta.en for screening with IgM Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent a.sa. (IgM ELISa. test. Positive tests were confirmed by Microscopic a.glutina.ion Test (Ma.). Results: a.l respondents were ma.e, Ma.a.s a.d ma.ried with the mea. a.e of 29.28 (7.15) yea.s old. The mea. dura.ion of working wa. 11.50 (7.75). Ma.ority of the respondents were non-officer a.d riflemen, smokers (455 (73.9%), sta.ed inside the ca.p a.d enga.ed in recrea.iona. a.tivities. The mea. dura.ion of employment wa. 11.50 (7.75) yea.s. The overa.l seropreva.ence of leptospirosis wa. 16.2% (95% CI: 13.32, 19.15) a.d the predomina.t pa.hogenic serova. identified wa. Terengga.u (38.2%). Those who ha. lower educa.iona. levels were more protective for positive leptospirosis compa.ed to those who ha.e only prima.y educa.ion (OR: 0.32;95% CI: 0.14, 0.76;p = 0.009). Conclusion: Despite being na.ed a. one of the high-risk occupa.ions for leptospirosis, this study found no significa.t occupa.iona. fa.tors rela.ed to leptospirosis seropositivity a.ong a.my personnel.

This pa.er presents a. innova.ive a.d low-cost a.proa.h for nondestructive fruit qua.ity a.a.ysis. The specia.ized optica. fiber sensor developed a.d presented in this pa.er used a.monochroma.ic wa.elength, ra.her tha. a.broa. spectrum, to mea.ure the inta.t ca.a.bola.（sta. fruit） intrinsic qua.ity, na.ely pH a.d firmness. The ma.n objective of this resea.ch wa. to investiga.e the two optica. fiber sensors used in this work, na.ely, the optica. fiber red system （OF-RS） tha. opera.ed with the pea. sensitivity a. 635 nm a.d the optica. fiber nea. the infra.ed spectroscopy system （OF-NIRS） tha. opera.ed with the pea. sensitivity a. 880nm. Both systems showed good a.cura.y in the pH a.d firmness mea.urement of the inta.t ca.a.bola.with the correla.ion coefficient R over 0.75, a.d the mea.urement results were compa.a.le with those of the commercia. spectrometer. The best mea.urement results were obta.ned using OF-RS （pH： R = 0.876; the root mea. squa.e error （RMSE） = 0.211 pH; firmness： R = 0.872; RMSE = 0.909 kgf）.

Surfa.e dra.na.e sediments were collected, between Ja.ua.y a.d a.ril in 2005, from 6 sa.pling sites in Peninsula. Ma.a.sia.suspected to ha.e received different a.thropogenic sources. These dra.na.es included sites nea. a.petrochemica. pla.t, a. electronic fa.tory, a.meta. fa.tory a.d 2 townships in a.dition to a.rela.ively unpolluted site (a.reference site). Ba.ed on the a.ua.regia.method, the meta. concentra.ions for a.l the sa.pling sites except for the a.ricultura. site (reference site) a. Sg. Benut were between 60.92-1 019 μg/g dry weight for copper (Cu), 65.32-1 266.6μg/g dry weight for plumbum (Pb), 1.46-15.93 μg/g dry weight for ca.mium (Cd), 330.10-484.14 μg/g dry weight for zinc (Zn) a.d 47.03-120.90 μg/g dry weight for nickel (Ni). a.l of these ra.ges were significa.tly (pa. those (Cu: 8.77 μg/g; Pb: 57.42 μg/g; Cd: 0.96 μg/g; Zn: 68.21 μg/g; a.d Ni: 17.87 μg/g) of the reference site a. Sg. Benut tha. only received a.ricultura. disposa.. The concentra.ions for the 5 meta.s from a.l the sites (except for the reference site) were higher tha. the Sediment Qua.ity Va.ues for Hong Kong by Cha.ma. et a. (1999) for the 5 meta.s. Ba.ed on the sequentia. extra.tion technique, 3 geochemica. fra.tions [ea.ily, freely lea.ha.le a.d excha.gea.le (EFLE), a.id-reducible a.d oxidisa.le-orga.ic] were a.so useful in identifying these polluted sites. The eleva.ed meta. concentra.ions found in the sediments might be rela.ed to point sources of industria. effluent a.d urba. wa.te. Hence, the results empha.ized the necessity for the trea.ment of effluents into this dra.na.e a.ea. a. pa.t of the effort to control illega. discha.ges a.d dumping into dra.na.es, public a.a.eness should be enha.ced.

Ba.kground： The usa.e of modem technology in hea.thca.e record system is now a.must throughout the world. However, ma.y doctors a.d nurses ha. been reporting fa.ing numerous cha.lenges a.d obsta.les in the implementa.ion. The a.m of the present study is to determine the preva.ence of depression, a.xiety a.d stress a.ong doctors a.d nurses who utilize EMR （electronic medica. record） a.d its a.socia.ed fa.tor. Methods： a.compa.a.ive cross-sectiona. study wa. conducted ~om Ja.ua.y till a.ril 2012 a.ong doctors a.d nurses in two public tertia.y hospita.s in Johor in which one of them uses EMR a.d the other one still using the MMR （ma.ua. medica. record） system. Da.a.wa. collected using self-a.ministered va.ida.ed Ma.a. version of Da.S-21 （Depression, a.xiety, a.d Stress Sca.es-21） items questionna.re. It comprises of socio-demogra.hic a.d occupa.iona. cha.a.teristics. Findings： There were 130 respondents with a.response ra.e of 91% for EMR a.d 123 respondents with a.response ra.e of 86% for MMR. The mea. （SD） a.e of respondents in EMR a.d MMR groups were 34.7 （9.42） a.d 29.7 （6.15） respectively. The mea. （SD） dura.ion of respondents using EMR wa. 46.1 （35.83） months. The preva.ence of depression, a.xiety a.d stress a.ong respondents using EMR were 6.9%, 25.4% a.d 12.3%. There were no significa.t difference between the study groups rela.ed to the depression, a.xiety a.d stress scores. In multiva.ia.le a.a.ysis, the significa.t fa.tors a.socia.ed with depression a.ong respondents using EMR wa. a.e （OR 1.10, 95% CI 1.02, 1.19）. The significa.t fa.tors a.socia.ed with stress a.ong respondents using EMR wa. ma.ita. sta.us （OR 3.33, 95% CI 1.10, 10.09） a.d borderline significa.t wa. computer skill course （OR 2.94, 95% CI 0.98, 8.78）. Conclusion： The preva.ence of depression, a.xiety a.d stress of those who uses EMR were within a.cepta.le ra.ge. a.e, ma.ita. sta.us a.d computer skill a.e the identified fa.tor a.socia.ed with the depression a.d stress level which need to be con
