The corrosion rates of additive-manufactured Mg alloys are higher than their as-cast counterparts,possibly due to increased kinetics for the hydrogen evolution reaction on secondary phases,which may include oxide inclusions.Scanning Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy demonstrated that MgO inclusions could act as cathodes for Mg corrosion,but their low conductivity likely precludes this.However,the density of state calculations through density functional theory using hybrid HSE06 functional revealed overlapping electronic states at the Mg/MgO interface,which facilitates electron transfers and participates in redox reactions.Subsequent determination of the hydrogen absorption energy at the Mg/MgO interface reveals it to be an excellent catalytic site,with HER being found to be a factor of 23x more efficient at the interface than on metallic Mg.The results not only support the plausibility of the Mg/MgO interface being an effective cathode to the adjacent anodic Mg matrix during corrosion but also contribute to the understanding of the enhanced cathodic activities observed during the anodic dissolution of magnesium.

This study aimed to report the outcomes of active surveillance(AS)in the management of low-risk prostate cancer(PCa).It recruited87 men who were prospectively followed up according to the Prostate Cancer Research International Active Surveillance(PRIAS)protocol with local adaptation at SH Ho Urology Centre,Prince of Wales Hospital,Hong Kong,China.We investigated the predictorsof disease progression and found that baseline prostate-specific antigen density(PSAD)and the presence of the highest ProstateImaging-Reporting and Data System(PI-RADS)score 5 lesion on magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)are significantly correlatedwith disease progression.Moreover,men with PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)or PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions had significantly worse upgradingfree survival compared to those with PSAD≤0.2 ng ml−2 and PI-RADS 2 or 3 lesions.The study concludes that AS is a safe andeffective management strategy for selected patients to defer radical treatment and that most disease progression can be detectedafter the first repeated biopsy.The combination of PSAD>0.2 ng ml^(−2)and PI-RADS 4 or 5 lesions may serve as a useful predictorof early disease progression and provide a guide to optimize follow-up protocols for men in different risk groups.

With the advancement of globalization and digital technology,students'ability to live in an interconnected world has become increasingly important.Global competence has gradually become an important indicator for assessing students'progress.In the study of global competence,Western countries took the lead,followed by China.China has gradually transitioned from learning from the ideas of other countries to the construction of global competence education with Chinese characteristics,demonstrating a catch-up trend.So,based on the PISA Global Competence Framework,this paper aims to interpret what global competence is,how to develop students'global competence in the context of Chinese school practices,and how to assess students'global competence using the PISA 2018 Global Competence Framework.As a result,it can substantially improve global competency research and development.

BACKGROUND Chronic liver disease(CLD)was associated with adverse clinical outcomes among people with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection.AIM To determine the effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on the incidence and treatment strategy of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)among patients with CLD.METHODS A retrospective,territory-wide cohort of CLD patients was identified from an electronic health database in Hong Kong.Patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection[coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)+CLD]between January 1,2020 and October 25,2022 were identified and matched 1:1 by propensity-score with those without(COVID-19-CLD).Each patient was followed up until death,outcome event,or November 15,2022.Primary outcome was incidence of HCC.Secondary outcomes included all-cause mortality,adverse hepatic outcomes,and different treatment strategies to HCC(curative,non-curative treatment,and palliative care).Analyses were further stratified by acute(within 20 d)and post-acute(21 d or beyond)phases of SARS-CoV-2 infection.Incidence rate ratios(IRRs)were estimated by Poisson regression models.RESULTS Of 193589 CLD patients(>95%non-cirrhotic)in the cohort,55163 patients with COVID-19+CLD and 55163 patients with COVID-19-CLD were included after 1:1 propensity-score matching.Upon 249-d median follow-up,COVID-19+CLD was not associated with increased risk of incident HCC(IRR:1.19,95%CI:0.99-1.42,P=0.06),but higher risks of receiving palliative care for HCC(IRR:1.60,95%CI:1.46-1.75,P<0.001),compared to COVID-19-CLD.In both acute and post-acute phases of infection,COVID-19+CLD were associated with increased risks of allcause mortality(acute:IRR:7.06,95%CI:5.78-8.63,P<0.001;post-acute:IRR:1.24,95%CI:1.14-1.36,P<0.001)and adverse hepatic outcomes(acute:IRR:1.98,95%CI:1.79-2.18,P<0.001;post-acute:IRR:1.24,95%CI:1.13-1.35,P<0.001),compared to COVID-19-CLD.CONCLUSION Although CLD patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were not associated with increased risk of HCC,they were more likely to receive palliative treatment

ChatGPT,as an emergent technique,has become a heat throughout the world.Currently,it was not known entirely to the public.To gain knowledge of how experts perceive and experience ChatGPT,a semi-structured interview was conducted.By doing thematic analysis of their interview reports,it found that the experts construed the chatbot not the same as some media advertised.They didn’t regard it as a threat to their occupation,but as a helper or an assistant both in life and work.Neither did they restrict its use in education or other fields.They viewed the challenges of ChatGPT in a welcomed and positive way.

Cu2ZnSnS4（CZTS） is a promising photovoltaic absorber material,however,efficiency is largely hindered by potential fluctuation and a band tailing problem due to the abundance of defect complexes and low formation energy of an intrinsic Cu Zn defect.Alternatives to CZTS by group I,II,or IV element replacement to circumvent this challenge has grown research interest.In this work,using a hybrid （HSE06） functional,we demonstrated the qualitative similarity of defect thermodynamics and electronic properties in Cu2MgSnS4（CMTS） to CZTS.We show Sn Mg to be abundant when in Sn-and Cu-rich condition,which can be detrimental,while defect properties are largely similar to CZTS in Sn-and Cu-poor.Under Sn-and Cu-poor chemical potential,there is a general increase in formation energy in most defects except Sn Mg,Cu Mg remains as the main contribution to p-type carriers,and Sn Mg may be detrimental because of a deep defect level in the mid gap and the possibility of forming defect complex Sn Mg+Mg Sn.Vacancy diffusion is studied using generalized gradient approximation,and we find similar vacancy diffusion properties for Cu vacancy and lower diffusion barrier for Mg vacancy,which may reduce possible Cu-Mg disorder in CMTS.These findings further confirm the feasibility of CMTS as an alternative absorber material to CZTS and suggest the possibility for tuning defect properties of CZTS,which is crucial for high photovoltaic performance.

Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is a major cause of viral hepatitis globally.There is growing concern about transfusion-transmitted HEV(TT-HEV)as an emerging global health problem.HEV can potentially result in chronic infection in immunocompromised patients,leading to a higher risk of liver cirrhosis and even death.Between 0.0013%and 0.281%of asymptomatic blood donors around the world have HEV viremia,and 0.27%to 60.5%have anti-HEV immunoglobulin G.HEV is infectious even at very low blood concentrations of the virus.Immunosuppressed patients who develop persistent hepatitis E infection should have their immunosuppressant regimen reduced;ribavirin may be considered as treatment.Pegylated interferon can be considered in those who are refractory or intolerant to ribavirin.Sofosbuvir,a nucleotide analog,showed modest antiviral activity in some clinical studies but sustained viral response was not achieved.Therefore,rescue treatment remains an unmet need.The need for HEV screening of all blood donations remains controversial.Universal screening has been adopted in some countries after consideration of risk and resource availability.Various pathogen reduction methods have also been proposed to reduce the risk of TT-HEV.Future studies are needed to define the incidence of transmission through transfusion,their clinical features,outcomes and prognosis.

The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has resulted in significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Vaccination against coronavirus disease 2019 is a use-ful weapon to combat the virus. Patients with chronic liver diseases (CLDs), including compensated or decompensated liver cirrhosis and noncirrhotic diseases, have a decreased immunologic response to coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines. At the same time, they have increased mortality if infected. Current data show a reduction in mortality when patients with chronic liver diseases are vaccinated. A suboptimal vac-cine response has been observed in liver transplant recipi-ents, especially those receiving immunosuppressive therapy, so an early booster dose is recommended to achieve a better protective effect. Currently, there are no clinical data com-paring the protective efficacy of different vaccines in patients with chronic liver diseases. Patient preference, availability of the vaccine in the country or area, and adverse effect profiles are factors to consider when choosing a vaccine. There have been reports of immune-mediated hepatitis after coronavi-rus disease 2019 vaccination, and clinicians should be aware of that potential side effect. Most patients who developed hepatitis after vaccination responded well to treatment with prednisolone, but an alternative type of vaccine should be considered for subsequent booster doses. Further prospec-tive studies are required to investigate the duration of immu-nity and protection against different viral variants in patients with chronic liver diseases or liver transplant recipients, as well as the effect of heterologous vaccination.

Arsenic Accumulation in Rice:Sources,Human Health Impact and Probable Mitigation Approaches

The human body loading with arsenic(As)through rice consumption is a global health concern.There is a crucial need to limit As build-up in rice,either by remediating As accumulation in soils or reducing As levels in irrigation water.Several conventional approaches have been utilized to alleviate the As accumulation in rice.However,except for some irrigation practices,those approaches success and the adoption rate are not remarkable.This review presents human health risks posed due to consumption of As contaminated rice,evaluates different biomarkers for tracing As loading in the human body,and discusses the latest advancement in As reducing technologies emphasizing the application of seed priming,nanotechnology,and biochar application for limiting As loading in rice grains.We also evaluate different irrigation techniques to reduce As accumulation in rice.Altering water management regimes significantly reduces grain As accumulation.Bio-and nano-priming of rice seeds improve germination and minimize As translocation in rice tissues by protecting cell membrane,building pool around seed coat,methylation and volatilization,or quenching harmful effects of reactive oxygen species.Nanoparticle application in the form of nano-adsorbents or nano-fertilizers facilitates nano-remediation of As through the formation of Fe plaque or sorption or oxidation process.Incorporating biochar in the rice fields significantly reduces As through immobilization,physical adsorption,or surface complexation.In conclusion,As content in cooked rice depends on irrigation source and raw rice As level.

Prevention and management of hepatitis B virus reactivation in patients with hematological malignancies in the targeted therapy era

Hepatitis due to hepatitis B virus(HBV)reactivation can be serious and potentially fatal,but is preventable.HBV reactivation is most commonly reported in patients receiving chemotherapy,especially rituximab-containing therapy for hematological malignancies and those receiving stem cell transplantation.Patients with inactive and even resolved HBV infection still have persistence of HBV genomes in the liver.The expression of these silent genomes is controlled by the immune system.Suppression or ablation of immune cells,most importantly B cells,may lead to reactivation of seemingly resolved HBV infection.Thus,all patients with hematological malignancies receiving anticancer therapy should be screened for active or resolved HBV infection by blood tests for hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg)and antibody to hepatitis B core antigen.Patients found to be positive for HBsAg should be given prophylactic antiviral therapy.For patients with resolved HBV infection,there are two approaches.The first is pre-emptive therapy guided by serial HBV DNA monitoring,and treatment with antiviral therapy as soon as HBV DNA becomes detectable.The second approach is prophy-lactic antiviral therapy,particularly for patients receiving high-risk therapy,especially anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.Entecavir and tenofovir are the preferred antiviral choices.many new effective therapies for hematological malignancies have been introduced in the past decade,for example,chimeric antigen receptor(CAR)-T cell therapy,novel monoclonal antibodies,bispecific antibody drug conjugates,and small molecule inhibitors,which may be associated with HBV reactivation.Although there is limited evidence to guide the optimal preventive measures,we recommend antivi-ral prophylaxis in HBsAg-positive patients receiving novel treatments,including Bruton’s tyrosine kinase inhibitors,B-cell lymphoma 2 inhibitors,and CAR-T cell therapy.Further studies are needed to determine the risk of HBV reactivation with these agents and the bes
