Background:Sarcopenia significantly impairs quality of life(QoL).The Sarcopenia Quality of Life®(SarQol®)questionnaire provides a sarcopenia-specific instrument for the assessment of *** aim of this study was to cross-culturally adapt the SarQol®to an Indonesian language questionnaire and to confirm its validity and reliability as a tool to measure QoL in Indonesian-speaking elderly patients with ***:This cross-sectional study translated and cross-culturally adapted the SarQol®questionnaire,followed by evaluating the psychometric properties of the final cross-culturally adapted SarQol®Indonesia ***:Fifty-nine elderly Indonesian subjects(29 sarcopenic and 30 nonsarcopenic)with a mean age of 72.2±6.3 years were included in this ***®Indonesia questionnaire overall provides a good discriminative value[60.61±14.34 vs.73.60±13.17,p=0.001],good internal consistency(Cronbach'sαcoefficient=0.896 and McDonald'sωcoefficient=0.906,both with good correlation to the questionnaire individual domains),acceptable construct validity,and good test-retest reliability(intraclass correlation coefficient:0.962[95%confidence interval:0.883-0.987]).Conclusions:The SarQol®Indonesia questionnaire provides a conceptual and literally equivalent questionnaire content to its original source with good discriminative value,good internal consistency,acceptable construct validity,and good test-retest *** SarQol®Indonesia questionnaire is ready to be used to measure QoL in Indonesian elderly sarcopenic individuals.

The effects of annealing on structural, optical and electrical properties of Sn2Sb2S5 thin films were studied. Sn2Sb2S5 thin films were deposited on no-heated glass substrates by single source vacuum evaporation method. The as- deposited films were annealed in air for 1 h at 100, 200 and 300 ℃. XRD study shows that annealed films are crystallized according to the preferential orientation （602）. Optical measurements show that the thin films have relatively high absorption coefficients in the range of 10s-106 cm-1 in the energy range of 2-3.25 eV. It is also found that Sn2Sb2S5 exhibit two optical direct transitions. The models of Wemple-DiDomenico and Spitzer-Fan were applied for the analysis of the dispersion of the refractive index and the determination of the optical and dielectric constants. The electrical resistivity measurements are recorded, and two activation energy values are determined. The layers annealed at 200 and 300 ℃ exhibit a resistive hysteresis behavior. The properties reported here offer perspective to Sn2SbES5 for its application in many advanced technologies.

Pangasius hypophthalmus is the most cultured freshwater fish by smallholder farmers in *** of the main challenges in the production is the highly weathered and infertile soils on the bottom of a pond that influences aquaculture *** work investigated the effects of pond age on soil quality,water quality,benthic algae population,and *** *** carried out a field experiment in a randomized design with pond age of 4 levels:Ponds aged 0-5 years(P1),6-10 years(P2),11-15 years(P3),and 16-20 years(P4).The soil is a Typic Palaeudult(Ultisol),and fish were grown for three *** results showed that the chemical soil quality parameters and soil organic matter content increased linearly with pond age,resulting in the enhancement of water quality *** increase in nitrate and phosphate directly affected benthic algae ***,in turn,in the highest fish production in P3,6.4 kg/m^(2),specific growth rate was 3.76%/d,survival rate of 66.7%,and feed conversion ratio of 1.8%.Linear correlation coefficients indicated that the contents of total N,total P,and organic carbon in the bottom soil of the pond were related to the increase in phosphate,nitrate,and organic matter content in pond *** N content,total P,carbon organic matter,C/N ratio,and CEC value in pond bottom soil significantly correlated to Pangus fish production.C/N ratio,CEC value in pond bottom soil,and CO_(2)concentration in pond water significantly correlated to fish survival *** linear regression indicated that fish production was significantly related to the pond age,water NH3,total alkalinity,and soil total P and C/N ratio(R^(2)=0.99,P<0.001).Increased soil C/N ratio caused a negative effect on fish *** results suggested that old-aged ponds,with proper management,act as a nutrient sink,resulting in increased aquaculture *** implementation of the best practices will benefit the Pangus culture in the tropical environm

Objective:To analyze scrum leptin levels in patients with malaria falciparum and compare them with healthy controls and correlate with development and outcome of malaria ***:Sixty cases of malaria falciparum were included in this study as *** healthy individuals of comparable age,racial and body mass index were taken as *** patients were diagnosed by clinical picture and the presence of malaria parasites in blood *** of liver function test,kidney function test,complete blood count,fasting blood sugar,fasting serum insulin,pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha(TNFα)and interleukin 1(IL1),estimation of morning serum leptin and calculation of body mass index(kg/m^2)were done in both groups on the day of admission,on discharge and 7 d after ***:At admission,leptin levels were significantly higher in patients group than in control while lasting serum insulin levels were not significantly different between the two *** were significant increases as regard to TNFαand IL1 in malaria *** differences were observed between the control and the patient group for leptin,TNFαand IL1 at the time of admission and *** discharge for 7 d.a significant decline in scrum leptin levels,TNFαand IL1 in the patients group was observed as compared with time of admission and time of discharge,a positive correlation between serum leptin levels and TNFαand ***:Leptin hormone level might play an important role in development and outcome of malaria infection.

Background: Autism represents a group of developmental disorder that pose a major challenge to world-wide societies and healthcare providers with limited diagnostics and medical cure. It is widely been considered as a mental disorder characterized by speech deficit and repetitive behavior. The presumed etiology of autism involves genetic, immunologic, intestinal and synaptic irregularities, aside from environmental toxicities. Yet, the prospective factor that triggers or predominates autism remains barely understood. Objective: Herein we aim to review the literature to identify the risk factors associated with the development of autism and the need to investigate the underlying pathological events. Results: Genetic factors have been widely investigated in autism for its role in inflammation, neuronal function, metabolism and detoxification. It’s assumed to be negatively impacted by heavy metals, allergens, infectious agents and environmental pollutants. Considering the fact that, these elements individually does not make up autism, one would expect a complex interplay of neuro inflammatory and gastrointestinal system in the pathophysiology of the disease. Gut-brain axis may serve as a potential pathological link representing the plethora of mechanistic events involved in the development of autism. Abnormal activation of mast and neuro glial cells may lead to deregulated expression of cytokines and neuroactive compounds, which may disrupt the blood brain barrier permeability leading to inflammation. Alternatively it may also interfere with intestinal permeability, gut physiology, microbial composition and related metabolites. Conclusion: A glance through the literature indicates the likelihood of genetic variations and environmental factors in triggering a cascade of inflammatory events leading to the development of autism. At the moment, there is no system to evaluate climate suitability for rubber cultivation. Most of land evaluation systems in Peninsular Malaysia often overlooked climate as not important on the assumption that the effect of climatic factors on rubber yield are small. The system to evaluate climate suitability follows the FAO （Food and Agriculture Organization） Framework for Laud Evaluation but employs a parametric approach using climatic data which are easily available. The climatic criteria used are mean annual temperature, mean daily maximum temperature, mean daily minimum temperature, mean annual rainfall, length of dry season, amount of sunshine, maximum wind speed and mean annual relative humidity. The evaluation of climate was carried out using information from nine meteorological stations in Peninsular Malaysia viz. Alor Star （Kedah）, Ipoh （Perak）, Subang （Selangor）, Malacca （Malacca）, Kluang （Johore）, Senai （Johore）, Kuantan （Pahang）, Kuala Krai （Kelantan） and Tanah Merah （Kelantan）. The results for actual suitability classification showed that eight of the stations are highly suitable （S1） for rubber cultivation with land indices ranging from 75 to 93. One station Alor Star is moderately suitable （S2y） due to dry season. The results for potential suitability classification showed that all the stations are highly suitable for rubber cultivation with land indices ranging from 90 to 99.

Thrombocytopenia Following Perceval Suture-Less Aortic Valve Implantation

Objectives: Thrombocytopenia has been reported following implantation of Perceval suture-less aortic valve. However, the time course of thrombocytopenia and platelet recovery is unknown. In addition, the effect of thrombocytopenia on post-operative outcome is unknown. We sought to study this observation and correlate that with short-term outcome. Methods: This is a retrospective review of a prospectively collected database over a 3-year period of all isolated aortic valve replacements (70 patients) using bioprosthetic valves (sutured Magna and suture-less Perceval). All preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative variables were collected and analyzed. Platelets count and mean platelet volumes were collected and analyzed in respect to the type of valve used and their time course. Results: The cohort consisted of 70 consecutive patients of which 42 underwent Perceval suture-less valve (group Perceval) and 28 underwent bioprosthetic sutured valve (group Magna). There was no difference in platelets count and mean platelet volume at baseline. However, Perceval group had significant drop in platelet count from day 1 to day 3 post-operatively, followed by a gradual increase in platelet count until discharge. Mean platelet volume, however, was not different between the two types of valves. Postoperative outcomes were similar in the two groups with exception of intensive care and a hospital stay which were significantly shorter in Perceval group. Conclusion: Thrombocytopenia following Perceval suture-less valve is observed from day 1 postoperatively and it is a transient phenomenon. It does not correlate with worse clinical outcomes postoperatively. Larger studies are needed to elucidate the mechanism and its impact.

A Novel Method for Producing Hydrogen from a Hydrocarbon Liquid Using Microwave In-liquid Plasma

The in-liquid plasma method is a technology in which plasma of several thousand degrees Kelvin is generated within bubbles in a liquid. The purpose of this study is to enhance the hydrogen production rate from waste oils by using in-liquid plasma. Two types of microwave in-liquid plasma apparatus are adopted for hydrogen production. One is a conventional MW （microwave） oven, the other is a microwave generator with a waveguide to apply the in-liquid plasma steam reforming method in n-dodecane. The produced gas is 58%-90% hydrogen in these methods. The hydrogen production rate is improved by stabilization of the bubble growth. The gas production rate by plasma feeding steam in n-dodecane is 1.4 times higher than that without feeding steam.
