Quality of Drugs Based on Ferrous Sulfate Dispensed in a Basic Health and Commercial Pharmacy in a City in the Amazon Region

Background: For the WHO, anemia is a serious public health problem, with an emphasis on deprivation anemia, which has socioeconomic conditions as determining factors for its development. Among nutritional anemias, the most relevant is iron deficiency, whose main form of prevention and treatment is supplementation with ferrous sulfate dispensed in the public health system, with the need to periodically check whether the drug has the quality required by regulatory health agencies. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the quality of the ferrous sulfate medication, from the same laboratory, and dispensed in a basic health unit (BHU) and a commercial pharmacy (CF). Materials and Methods: An analytical, qualitative and quantitative study of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (25 mg/mL in 100 mL syrup), carried out on 20 BHU and 10 from CF, both from the same laboratory, but in different batches. Samples were subjected to organoleptic analysis and verification of iron content, pH, volume and density. data were compared with values recommended by the Brazilian pharmacopoeia 5th edition. Results: Three batches were evaluated: 4659 of from the CF;4574 from the BHU1, and 4576 from the BHU2, stored in accordance with RDC 304/19 of ANVISA. All showed compliance with some organoleptic characteristics;and stable values in pH (3.61 - CF;3.67 - BHU1;3.65 - BHU2), density (1.079 - CF;1.088 - BHU1;1.086 - BHU2) and individual volume (not less than 95% of the declared value). However, it was not possible to detect the odor of herbs;the average volume of batch BHU1 was below the declared value, and the iron content of both BHUs was above the maximum value of pharmacopoeia standards. Conclusion: Samples did not show full compliance with the physical and chemical parameters evaluated, suggesting deviation in the quality of the medication.

GTD (Gestational Trophoblastic Disease) is a pathology that encompasses benign and malignant clinical forms, affects women of childbearing age, has a variable incidence and is more frequent in developing or underdeveloped countries, colliding with the economic barrier. The frequent absence of clear protocols and guidelines for the correct diagnosis of the pathology results in inadequate classification, imprecise treatment and failed post-therapeutic observation, increasing the risk of relapses, morbidity and mortality. The present study aims to point out updated national and international practice protocols of diagnosis of GTD, through an integrative review. Seven articles were selected and it was observed that the main international reference centers are agreed with the management suggested by the IFGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics), being the conduct in the Hydatidiform Mole (HM): evacuation by suction and curettage under ultrasound guidance, followed by hCG monitoring every 1 - 2 weeks until normalized (usually one month for Partial Hydatidiform Mole six months for Complete Hydatidiform Mole and one year for Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia). Unfortunately, regarding the diagnosis of MH, the guidelines of some countries show the absence or difficulty of access to the karyotype test and ploid p57 or pelvic ultrasound accompanying the uterine curettage, contrary to what is proposed by the IFGO guideline. Establishing and complying with consistent guidelines can improve patient care, with early diagnosis of the pathology and its complications, reducing the rate of recurrence, morbidity and mortality, especially in less developed countries.

Obesity has reached pandemic proportions in the world. Who is to blame for this: the person or the State (or both?). An increase in diseases associated with excess weight is also worldwide reported, such as Diabetes, Hypertension and some types of cancers. Therefore, the economic impacts of these comorbidities are an important issue to be discussed by States and citizens. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has set and classified obesity as a disease more than 30 years ago, the American Medical Society was until recently (2010) not so sure about this definition. This article discusses the relevance of the implementation of public health policies for prevention and control of obesity, along with the possible ethical limitations to these actions, considering the autonomy of individuals regarding their health.

Clinical and environmental isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei from Brazil: Genotyping and detection of virulence gene

Objective: To evaluate the genetic diversity of clinical and environmental isolates of Burkholderia pseudomallei(***) recovered in Ceara, Brazil, and screen these isolates for the presence of type three secretion system virulence ***: Nineteen *** isolates(9 from clinical cases and 10 from soils)were *** amplified polymorphic DNA was performed with primers OPQ-2, OPQ-4 and OPQ-16 to evaluate the genetic diversity, and type three secretion system gene was detected through polymerase chain ***: Random amplified polymorphic DNA showed a genetic relatedness of approximately 50% among the tested *** isolates, which were grouped into two clades, of which the biggest ones comprised 18/19 isolates for primer OPQ-2, and 17/19 isolates for primer *** OPQ-4 grouped the isolates into three clades comprising 1/19, 3/19 and 15/19 ***, type three secretion system gene was detected in all tested ***: This is an effort to type *** strains from Ceara, which is important for better understanding this pathogen, contributing for the epidemiological surveillance of melioidosis in this endemic region.

BACKGROUND Peroneal tendon disorders are common causes of lateral hindfoot ***,total rupture of the peroneal longus tendon is *** treatment for this condition is usually a side-to-side tenodesis of the peroneal longus tendon to the peroneal brevis *** the traditional procedure involves a long lateral curved incision,this approach is associated with damage to the lateral soft tissues(up to 24%incidence).CASE SUMMARY A 50-year-old female had developed pain at the lateral aspect of the hindfoot 1 mo after an ankle sprain while walking in the *** treatments were anti-inflammatory drugs,ice,rest and Cam-walker *** physical exam,there was pain and swelling over the course of the peroneal *** instability and cavovarus foot deformity were ruled *** strength was weak(4/5).Imaging showed complete rupture of the peroneal longus tendon associated with a sharp hypertrophic peroneal *** repair was indicated after failure of conservative treatment(physiotherapy,rest,analgesics,and ankle stabilizer).A less invasive approach was performed for peroneal longus tendon debridement and side-to-side tenodesis to the adjacent peroneal brevis tendon,with successful clinical and functional *** Peroneus longus tendon tenodesis can be performed through a less invasive approach with preservation of the lateral soft tissue integrity.

Objective:To investigate the in vitro antimicrobial potential of extracts of stem,leaves,flowers,pods and seeds of Moringu okifera(***) against Vibrio *** hatchery water and the prawn Mmrobrachium ***:The ethanol extracts of stem,leaves,pods and seeds and chloroform extract of flowers of *** were tested against Vibrio cholerue(***) serogroups non-O1/non-O139(n=4).Vibrio vulnificus(n=l) and Vibrio mimicus(n=1).Escherichia coli(***)(ATCC(?) 25922) was used as quality *** species were obtained from Macmbrachium amazonicum prawns and from hatchery water from prawn *** Minimum Inhibitory Concentration(MIC) was determined by broth microdilution ***:The best result was obtained with the ethanol extract of pods,which inhibited three strains of the ***,Vibrio vulnificus,Vibrio minimis and ***(MIC range 0.312-5.000 mg/mL).The chloroform extract of flowers was effective against all *** strains and ***(MIC range 0.625-1.250 mg/mL).However,the ethanol extracts of stem and seeds showed low effectiveness in inhibiting the bacterial ***:The extracts of pods,flowers and leaves of *** have potential for the control of Vibrio *** studies are necessary to isolate the bioaetive compounds responsible for this antimicrobial activity.
