Air distribution of HVAC systems is the most popular type used in the building sector,having a relevant impact on indoor air quality and occupant *** types of research developed optimal solutions for the HVAC system’s design,focusing on specific components of the distribution system,on the airflow and geometry of ducts,on the size of ducts,on the shape and position of air ***,few works in literature proposed a globally experimental and simulation analysis of an air distribution system with a variable mass flaw *** this line,the presented research investigates the potentialities of a new ceiling diffuser,installed in an exhibition *** system provides a variable mass flow rate thanks to its configuration,providing adequate thermal comfort.A warm wall is chosen as the heating *** tests are carried out,six for cooling and two for heating with different volumetric air rates and supply air temperature of the *** combination of two methods,the measurement campaigns and the computational fluid dynamics(CFD)technique represent a suitable approach to examine the thermal indoor *** general,results show a strong capability of this diffuser to provide a uniform temperature and velocity field inside the ***,experimental and numerical data are significantly comparable with an average deviation of 1%for the velocity and lower 1%for the temperature,guaranteeing an optimal distribution of the understudy environmental parameters on the vertical and horizontal planes.

A monitoring campaign of BtEX （benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o- m- and p-xylene） was carried out nearby two tunnel portals in the urban area of Naples with the aim to verify air quality in this kind of urban sites. sampling was carried out using the active adsorption technique. sampling time was 1 h. Ambient temperature and traffic flow measurements were carried out during each sampling operation. the results indicate that average benzene concentrations at both sites exceed the limit value of 10 μg/Nm^3 established by the European Community （EC）（Dir. 2000/69）. Concentration levels of other BtEX are relatively high as well. A correlation between BtEX concentration and two wheeler vehicle flow was observed.

Output-only structural identification is developed by a refined Frequency Domain Decomposition（rFDD） approach, towards assessing current modal properties of heavy-damped buildings（in terms of identification challenge）, under strong ground motions. structural responses from earthquake excitations are taken as input signals for the identification algorithm. A new dedicated computational procedure, based on coupled Chebyshev type Ⅱ bandpass filters, is outlined for the effective estimation of natural frequencies, mode shapes and modal damping ratios. the identification technique is also coupled with a Gabor Wavelet transform, resulting in an effective and self-contained time-frequency analysis framework. simulated response signals generated by shear-type frames（with variable structural features） are used as a necessary validation condition. In this context use is made of a complete set of seismic records taken from the FEMA P695 database, i.e. all 44 ＂Far-Field＂（22 Ns, 22 WE） earthquake signals. the modal estimates are statistically compared to their target values, proving the accuracy of the developed algorithm in providing prompt and accurate estimates of all current strong ground motion modal parameters. At this stage, such analysis tool may be employed for convenient application in the realm of Earthquake Engineering, towards potential structural Health Monitoring and damage detection purposes.

this study presents the formulation,the numerical solution,and the validation of a theoretical framework based on the concept of variable-order mechanics and capable of modeling dynamic fracture in brittle and quasi-brittle *** specifically,the reformulation of the elastodynamic problem via variable and fractional-order operators enables a unique and extremely powerful approach to model nucleation and propagation of cracks in solids under dynamic *** resulting dynamic fracture formulation is fully evolutionary,hence enabling the analysis of complex crack patterns without requiring any a priori assumption on the damage location and the growth path,and without using any algorithm to numerically track the evolving crack *** evolutionary nature of the variable-order formalism also prevents the need for additional partial differential equations to predict the evolution of the damage field,hence suggesting a conspicuous reduction in complexity and computational ***,the variable-order formulation is naturally capable of capturing extremely detailed features characteristic of dynamic crack propagation such as crack surface roughening as well as single and multiple *** accuracy and robustness of the proposed variableorder formulation are validated by comparing the results of direct numerical simulations with experimental data of typical benchmark problems available in the literature.

this contribution focuses on a multidisciplinary research showing the geomorphological evolution and the beach sand composition of the tyrrhenian shoreline between Capo suvero promontory and Gizzeria Lido village(Calabria,southern Italy). the aim of the geomorphological analysis was to reconstruct the evolutionary shoreline stages and the present-day sedimentary dynamics along approximately 6 km of coastline. the results show a general trend of beach nourishment during the period 1870–2019. In this period, the maximum shoreline accretion value was estimated equal to + 900 m with an average rate of + 6.5 m/yr. Moreover, although the general evolutionary trend is characterized by a remarkable accretion, the geomorphological analysis highlighted continuous modifications of the beaches including erosion processes. the continuous beach modifications occurred mainly between 1953 and1983 and were caused mainly by human activity in the coastal areas and inside the hydrographic basins. the beach sand composition allowed an assessment of the mainland petrological sedimentary province and its dispersal pattern of the present coastal dynamics. Petrographic analysis of beach sands identified a lithic metamorphi-clastic petrofacies, characterized by abundant fine-grained schists and phyllites sourced from the crystalline terrains of the Coastal Range front and carried by the savuto River. the sand is also composed of a mineral assemblage comparable to that of the Amato River provenance. In terms of framework detrital constituents of QFL(quartz:feldspars:aphanitic lithic fragments) and of essential extraclasts, such as granitoid:sedimentary:metamorphic phaneritic rock fragments(Rg:Rs:Rm), sand maturity changes moderately from backshore to shoreface, suggesting that transport processes had a little effect on sand maturity. Following a seismic event that occurred years ago in Central Italy, the public opinion was growing and growing a concern on the adequacy of educational buildings all across Italy. this activated several political decisions and a consequent technical effort is in progress. technically speaking one has to manage the classical problem of retrofitting existing buildings. However, the legal environment goes across national codes, targeted guidelines and the professional need of achieving pragmatic solutions based on ethical and social acceptation *** paper introduces the topic in its worldwide exception and focuses then on some operative aspects in the Italian situation. It outlines the consolidated steps along this technical process and emphasizes the weak aspects one meets when going across the designers＇ reports.

Identifying the instability areas provides useful information about the recognition of the vulnerable zones and,thus,helps to potentially decrease the harm to the infrastructure and the hazard conditions in inhabited *** this regard,morphometric parameters and tectonic setting are widely employed in mapping,modelling and understanding of instability *** present study is aimed to analyse the combined effects of slope morphometry(slope gradient,slope curvature,local relief),of lithology,of drainage density and of tectonic setting on the distribution of *** study area is located in the Mesima Basin that lies in the central part of the Calabria region(southern Italy).the morphometric analysis was carried out by geographic information system(GIs)techniques,whereas the geomorphic attributes were computed by a digital elevation model(DEM).the recognized landslides and faults were digitized and stored in a GIs geo-database that allowed the construction of relative density maps.A total of 1991 landslides and 231 tectonic lineaments were recognized and *** distribution of the collected data suggests that the occurrence of landslides is not ***,the research highlights as the lithology,the fault density,the slope gradient and the local relief play an important role in determining the landslide *** used approach is aimed to reinforce the knowledge about the validity of the application of morphometric analysis to the landslide *** Mesima Basin is a poorly studied area of the Calabria from a geomorphological ***,previous researches focused mainly on geological and on tectonic aspects,as well as on instability phenomena in the Mesima ***,this paper takes a step forward with respect to previous studies because it augments the knowledge about the relationship between faults,morphometric features and the occurrence of landslide.

Near Real time(minutes or hours) radar imaging of ground targets located anywhere on an hemisphere, with or without interferometric coherence with previous passes, can be obtained with different solutions that are considered here. Geosynchronous systems, from the one proposed in 1978 by tomiyasu to telecom satellite compatible solutions, and Low, Medium or Geosynchronous Earth Orbit constellations are *** benefits, problems, and sizes are briefly summarized, and a comparative table is presented. If interferometric coherence is requested, continuous imaging is obtained only if a very wide geostationary aperture is progressively scanned, eventually using a MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) combination of several slow librating small satellites. Instead, fast librating, strip mapping, large geosynchronous satellites do provide high resolution imaging, but interferometry(and thus coherent change detection) is achievable only after a minimum delay of 12 h, i.e., when the target comes in sight without need to squint the antenna. Hence, both complex and simple systems reach full resolution interferometric imaging and thus coherent change detection capability only after 12 h.
