Polylactide (PLA) is an emerging material mainly because it can be synthesized f.om renewable resources and is thus environmentally and ecologically saf.. In this study, composites of.PLA and talc were prepared by melt-blending technique, using a twin screw extruder. The inf.uence of.talc content on the rheological properties of.pure PLA and its composites were evaluated. Dynamic rheological tests show that the incorporation of.talc particles into PLA decreased system viscosity due to the f.ller"s lubricant ef.ect. However, as talc content increased, system"s viscosity tended also to increase and materials with higher elastic behavior were produced, f.rther with a higher plastic behavior in relation to pure PLA. This behavior can be observed by SEM micrographs.

Neglected tropical diseases are a group of.tropical diseases endemic in poor countries even though medical treatment and cures are available. They are considered a global health problem due to the severity of.the physiological changes they induce in their hosts. Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium sp. that in its cerebral f.rm may lead to acute or long-term neurological def.cits, even with ef.ective antimalarial therapy, causing vascular obstruction, reduced cerebral blood f.ow and many other changes. However, Plasmodium f.lciparum inf.ction can also develop into a cerebral malaria(CM) disease that can produce neurological damage. This review will discuss the mechanisms involved in the neuropathology caused by CM, f.cusing on alterations in cognitive, behavior and neurological f.nctions in human and experimental models.

Understanding the geodynamic process of.orogeny and cratonization, and their transition is among the key topics of.research in evaluating the link between plate tectonics and continental dynamics. The Tibetan Plateau and the North China Craton(NCC), two key areas in China’s mainland, of.er excellent laboratories to understand continental tectonics over a broad span of.Earth history. Particularly, the deep structure of.the lithosphere as imaged f.om geophysical data on the Tibetan Plateau and the NCC provide important clues in understanding orogeny and cratonization. The Tibetan Plateau is the largest and highest plateau on Earth in terms of.mean altitude, and is an important region f.r understanding the mechanisms of.continent–continent collision and Cenozoic plateau uplif.. The NCC is an Archean craton that underwent lithospheric disruption during the Mesozoic. Here we reconstruct the main f.atures of.the structure of.the crust and upper mantle f.om surf.ce wave tomography and gravity modeling in Tibet and its neighboring regions, in order to understand the modality of.the convergence and collision process between the Indian and Eurasian plates, and the in f.uence of.this process on the uplif. of.the plateau. In the NCC, geological, geochemical, geophysical and tectonic investigations demonstrate that lithospheric destruction mainly occurred in the Eastern Block. The crustal structure of.the NCC is reconstructed f.om ambient noise surf.ce wave tomography and the dif.erent possible disruption mechanisms are evaluated. The Vs(shear-wave velocity) tomography results, and the density(ρ) structure of.the crust and upper mantle(to about350 km depth) demonstrate the lateral variation of.the thickness of.the metasomatic lid between the south and north of.the Bangong–Nujiang suture(BNS) and the west and east of.Tibet, which suggest that the leading edge of.the subducting Indian slab reaches the BNS. The leaf.essential oils of.three Myrtaceae species: Melaleuca leucadendra, Lophostemon conf.rtus and Ugni molinae, non-native to Brazil and growing in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Oil yields f.om f.esh leaves were 0.76%, 0.08%, and 0.04%, respectively. Sixty-seven percent of.M. leucadendra oil was made up of.monoterpenes, wherein 1,8-cineole was largely predominant (49%), f.llowed by α-terpineol (7.6%) and terpinen-4-ol (4.3%). The sesquiterpene prof.le was characterized by a signif.cant amount of.viridif.orol (29%). Oil f.om L. conf.rtus was 42% monoterpenes;the most predominant constituents being α-pinene (20.8%) and α-thujene (7.1%). Total sesquiterpenes (55.4%) comprised spathulenol (28%), globulol (14%), and aromadendrene derivatives (8.5%) as the main species. U. Molinae oil was exclusively composed of.sesquiterpenes, with a predominance of.β-elemene (44%) f.llowed by β-caryophyllene (7.1%), and bicyclogermacrene (6.7%);guaiol-type alcohols made up 30% of.its prof.le. To the best of.our knowledge, this is the f.rst time U. Molinae leaf.oil composition has been described. The composition of.M. leucadendra oil corresponded to a chemotype described f.r a species growing in Cuba, but was dif.erent f.om that produced by M. leucadendra growing in Egypt, Tunisia, and elsewhere in Brazil. The prof.le of.the L. conf.rtus leaf.oil showed high similarity with those described f.r Australian native specimens, in particular in relation to the relevant presence of.α-pinene, aromadendrenes, and the guaiol-type alcohols.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of.mortality among cirrhotic patients, and current guidelines recommend single-treatment modalities according to patient and liver disease classif.cations. New studies have shown promising results f.om combining locoregional and systemic treatments, but most of.them were limited to Child-Pugh A patients due to toxicity concerns. Aim: The objective of.this study was to analyze survival rates of.Child-Pugh A and B patients with intermediate HCC tumors treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) f.llowed by f.ll-dose soraf.nib usage. Material and methods: a retrospective analysis of.37 cirrhotic patients (Child-Pugh A and B rates = 23/14) treated with TACE and TACE f.llowed by soraf.nib usage (17 and 20 patients, respectively). Results: The mean survival was 379 days in the combined treatment group and 151 days in the single-treatment group (p = 0.007). There were no dif.erences in survival according to the Child-Pugh classif.cation. Conclusions: soraf.nib af.er TACE can be an option f.r selected cirrhotic patients with intermediate HCC tumors if.this combined approach is cautiously perf.rmed on an individualized schedule. Our results suggest that the Child-Pugh classif.cation should not be a limitation to this combined treatment.
