Given the growth in biodiesel production and other biofuels, it involves large volumes of byproducts which aren"t suitable for commercial use. We studied the glycerol purification by vacuum distillation of the glycerol rich phase in the mixture reaction at the end of the biodiesel production process. Since glycerin is one of those byproducts, useful and plentiful, therefore the options to purify this one and achieve its better trading benefit are interesting. The process was monitored by 1 H NMR and showed that by vacuum fractional distillation of the glycerin rich phase of the biodiesel production it was possible to obtain pure glycerin between 97.4% and 98.9% on dry basis with 49.0% yield. Vacuum distillation without fractionation was inconvenient because it generates thermal degradation of the material and causes the formation of foam which induces low yield of glycerin and hinders the operation progress.

BACKGROUND Gastric carcinogenesis can be induced by chronic inflammation triggered by Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection. Tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and its receptors(TNFR1 and TNFR2) regulate important cellular processes, such as apoptosis and cell survival, and the disruption of which can lead to cancer. This signaling pathway is also modulated by microRNAs(miRNAs), altering gene *** To evaluate the mRNA and miRNAs expression involved in the TNF-α signaling pathway in gastric cancer(GC) tissues and its *** Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(qPCR) by TaqMan? assay was used to quantify the RNA transcript levels of TNF-α signaling pathway(TNF, TNFR1,TNFR2, TRADD, TRAF2, CFLIP, NFKB1, NFKB2, CASP8, CASP3) and miRNAs that targets genes from this pathway(miR-19 a, miR-34 a, miR-103 a, miR-130 a,miR-181 c) in 30 GC fresh tissue samples. Molecular diagnosis of H. pylori was performed by nested PCR for gene HSP60. A miRNA:mRNA interaction network was construct using Cytoscape v3.1.1 from the in silico analysis performed using public *** Up-regulation of cellular survival genes as TNF, TNFR2, TRADD, TRAF2, CFLIP,and NFKB2, besides CASP8 and miR-34 a was observed in GC tissues, whereas mediators of apoptosis such as TNFR1 and CASP3 were down-regulated. When the samples were stratified by histological type, the expression of miR-103 a and miR-130 a was significantly increased in the diffuse-type of GC compared to the intestinal-type. However, no influence of H. pylori infection was observed on the expression levels of mRNA and miRNAs analyzed. Moreover, the miRNA:mRNA interaction network showed several interrelations between the miRNAs and their target genes, highlighting miR-19 a and miR-103 a, which has as predicted or validated target a large number of genes in the TNF-α pathway,including TNF, TNFR1, TNFR2, CFLIP, TRADD, CASP3 and *** Our findings show that cell survival genes mediated by TNF/TNFR2 binding

Neglected tropical diseases are a group of tropical diseases endemic in poor countries even though medical treatment and cures are available. They are considered a global health problem due to the severity of the physiological changes they induce in their hosts. Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium sp. that in its cerebral form may lead to acute or long-term neurological deficits, even with effective antimalarial therapy, causing vascular obstruction, reduced cerebral blood flow and many other changes. However, Plasmodium falciparum infection can also develop into a cerebral malaria(CM) disease that can produce neurological damage. This review will discuss the mechanisms involved in the neuropathology caused by CM, focusing on alterations in cognitive, behavior and neurological functions in human and experimental models.

Currently there is an urgent and special attention in actions to restore tropical *** this study,we evaluated the effect of different restoration methods on aboveground biomass(AGB)stock,tree community diversity and structure,in areas affected by the Fundão tailings dam collapse in Mariana,Minas Gerais state,*** measured and compiled data of the AGB,community diversity and structure attributes in 36 plots distributed in six restoration treatments and six replicas:planting of native tree seedlings with fertilization and pH correction(PSf)and without fertilization and pH correction(PS);seeding of native trees with fertilization and pH correction(SDf)and without fertilization and pH correction(SD);natural regeneration with fertilization and pH correction(NRf)and without fertilization and pH correction(NR).No significant differences in substrate properties and AGB between *** biomass storage between treatments was not statistically different,there is a clear pattern showing higher values active restoration *** Pielou index ranged from 0.520(SDf)to 0.943(NR),except for SDf all the others treatments had values higher than *** result suggests floristic heterogeneity,without ecological dominance in the plant ***,active restoration had important implications for the forest restoration where natural regeneration is limited.

Because of the overuse and misuse of antibiotic, an increase in antibiotic resistance of pathogenic bacteria is evolving. Attention should be focused on natural alternatives to antibiotics, like propolis and honey. They all have strong antibacterial properties because of the active substances they contain. In the present study, the influence of P1 (water-soluble propolis (WSP) Greit 120) or P2 (phosphate buffer saline (PBS) propolis extract Lj. Center pH = 8.0) on antimicrobial activity of different Slovenian: chestnut honey (CH), forest honeys (FoH), and flower honey (FlH) against various Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria and yeast Candida albicans are shown. Gram-positive bacteria used in the experiments were: methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus mutans. The yeast was Candia albicans. Gram-negative bacteria used were: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumanii. P1, P2, FoH, CH, FlH and their combinations were prepared in saline as 10% solutions. The composition of both propolis extracts and the three kinds of honey was determined by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). It expressed the antimicrobial activity as a minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) in mg/mL. Each of the two propolis extracts showed antimicrobial activity when applied alone. Also, the application of each of honey yielded an antimicrobial activity in decreasing order: CH, FoH and FlH honey. The combination of any of the propolis extract with any of the honey showed the additive antimicrobial effect on either Gram-positive or Gram-negative bacteria and on yeast Candida albicans. The effectiveness of P1 or P2 depends on their nature and from the sort of honey and is the highest in the case of CH followed by FoH and FlH.
