In several applications, such as collision avoidance, it is necessary to have a system able to rapidly detect the simultaneous presence of different obstacles. In general, these applications do not require high resolution performance, but it is necessary to assure high system reliability also within critical scenarios, as in the case of partially transparent atmosphere or environment in presence of multiple objects(implying multiple echoes having different delay times.) This paper describes the algorithm, the architecture and the implementation of a digital Light Detection and Ranging(LIDAR) system based on a chirped optical carrier. This technique provides some advantages compared to the pulsed approach, primarily the reduction of the peak power of the laser. In the proposed architecture all the algorithms for signal processing are implemented using digital hardware. In this way, some specific advantages are obtained: improved detection performance(larger dynamics, range and resolution), capability of detecting multiple obstacles having different echoes amplitude, reduction of the noise effects, reduction of the costs, size and weight of the resulting equipment. The improvement provided by this fully digital solution is potentially useful in different applications such as: collision avoidance systems, 3D mapping of environments and, in general, remote sensing systems which need wide distance and dynamics.

A non-traditional type of financial asset,cryptocurrencies based on public blockchains are still little understood in their real-world *** events such as cyber-attacks and their media coverage can strongly affect their supply and demand,adoption and usage,efficiency,and infrastructural development,thus influencing their price stability and market *** the great technical complexity of blockchains,we believe that a pure economic analysis of risks associated with cryptocurrencies is simply not sufficient to convey the relationships between attacks and the disruptive effects that these can bring on the operation of *** these grounds,we survey the most common types of attacks for Proof-of-Work(PoW)cryptocurrencies and evaluate their impact on the returns of a number of real-world cryptocurrencies for which market data are *** to data availability,our event study analysis focuses on instances of 51% attacks,hard forks,and wallet *** main goal of our analysis is to understand the relationship between technical events(cyber-attacks and coordinated user/miner behavior)and the economic impacts surrounding *** aim to develop a deeper understanding of these systems that are objects of great research interest in separate disciplines,supporting policymakers in their regulatory decisions concerning crypto-assets and associated cyber-related financial risks.

The success of new scientific areas can be assessed by their potential for contributing to new theoretical approaches aligned with real-world *** Euclidean distance transform(EDT)has fared well in both cases,providing a sound theoretical basis for a number of applications,such as median axis transform,fractal analysis,skeletonization,and Voronoi *** its wide applicability,the discrete form of the EDT includes interesting properties that have not yet been fully exploited in the *** this paper,we are particularly interested in the properties of 1)working with multiple objects/labels;and 2)identifying and counting equidistant pixels/voxels from certain points of *** some domains(such as dataset classification,texture,and complexity analysis),the result of applying the EDT transform with different objects,and their respective tied distances,may compromise the *** this sense,we propose an efficient modification in the method presented in[1],which leads to a novel approach for computing the distance transform in a space with multiple objects,and for counting equidistant pixels/voxels.

The genus Neglectella Vodenicarov&Benderliev has a morphology similar to the well-known genus Oocystis,except for the numerous chloroplasts stacked in the surface layer of the *** subsequently experienced complex taxonomy changes with members being transferred in and out,and five species are now *** this study,a new alga with morphology corresponding to this genus was collected in China and successfully cultured in *** observations in light microscopy and transmission electronic microscopy(TEM)and phylogenetic analyses revealed that it is a new species,described here as Neglectella glomerata *** differed from other Neglectella species due to a morphological difference in its unique mucilaginous colony with a large number of cells,multiple pyrenoids in each chloroplast,smaller cell size,and more elongated cell *** analyses placed this alga in the subfamily Eremosphaeroideae of the family Oocystaceae and showed its close relationship with Neglectella *** morphological comparisons combined with phylogenetic results revealed three different morphological types in *** new type represented by our new species may represent a transitional morphology in intermediate taxonomic position between the other two *** diversity of morphological types in Neglectella suggests that further unknown species of this genus are likely to be discovered in the *** collections and DNA sequence data will be needed in the future for this genus.

The increase in life expectance makes the diagnosis of PFO a possible and not easily manageable event in patients > 60-years-old due to the presence of different comorbidities and in particular of diastolic dysfunction which is considered as a contraindication to PFO closure. The literature review suggests that aged patients with PFO cannot be excluded"a priori"from PFO closure that should evaluated as therapeutic options in presence of anatomical and functional indications. Moreover in the elderly many other syndromes than paradoxical stroke mediated by PFO required full assessment and, if needed, transcather PFO closure:deoxygenating in obstructive sleeping apnoea, unexplained increased dyspnoea associated with hypoxemia after lung surgery, paralysis of the hemidiaphragm, and platypnea orthodeoxia. Differently from in the young and middle age, the management of PFO in aged patients should obligatory include the careful evaluation of potential comorbidities and eventual contraindications, such as severe diastolic dysfunction due to for example to hypertensive cardiomyopathy and coronary heart disease, the main causes of diastolic dysfunction.(J Geriatr Cardiol 2007;4:254-256.)
