The antibacterial potential of silver nanoparticles（AgNPs） resulted in their increasing incorporation into consumer,industrial and biomedical products.Therefore,human and environmental exposure to AgNPs（either as an engineered product or a contaminant）supports the emergent research on the features conferring them different toxicity profiles.In this study,30 ran AgNPs coated with citrate or poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG） were used to assess the influence of coating on the effects produced on a human hepatoma cell line（HepG2）,namely in terms of viability,apoptosis,apoptotic related genes,cell cycle and cyclins gene expression.Both types of coated AgNPs decreased cell proliferation and viability with a similar toxicity profile.At the concentrations used（11 and 5 μg/mL corresponding to IC50 and-IC10 levels,respectively） the amount of cells undergoing apoptosis was not significant and the apoptotic related genes BCL2（anti-apoptotic gene）and BAX（pro-apoptotic gene） were both downregulated.Moreover,both AgNPs affected HepG2 cell cycle progression at the higher concentration（11 μg/mL） by increasing the percentage of cells in S（synthesis phase） and G2（Gap 2 phase） phases.Considering the cell-cycle related genes,the expression of cyclin B1 and cyclin E1 genes were decreased.Thus,this work has shown that citrate- and PEG-coated AgNPs impact on HepG2 apoptotic gene expression,cell cycle dynamics and cyclin regulation in a similar way.More research is needed to determine the properties that confer AgNPs at lower toxicity,since their use has proved helpful in several industrial and biomedical contexts.

Following a period of significant development at the end of the 1990s, with economic growth rates greater than those of the European Union, the Portuguese economy stagnated in 2002 and even declined in 2003. The current context of international crisis has just interrupted the fragile growth trend initiated in 2004: In fact, real GDP, which increased by 1.9 percent in 2007, had a growth rate of zero in 2008 and declined by 2.9 percent in 2009. The crisis has abruptly increased the closure of companies and unemployment jumped from 7.3% in the second haft of 2008 to 10.1% in the forth quarter of 2009. Notwithstanding, social dialog was resilient to this situation of economic crisis, as shown by the number of collective agreements negotiated by the social partners, the number of workers covered by collective agreements and the observed increase in real wages. Additionally, social partners have agreed on a reform of the Labour Code. Are this data enough evidence of social concentration on crisis management? This paper will analyze this issue, giving particular attention to collective bargaining in Portugal and the crisis impact on the industrial relations system and their actors.

Scintillation Characteristics of CsI Crystal Doped Br under Gamma and Alpha Particles Excitation

Inorganic scintillators play an important role in detection and spectroscopy of gamma, X-rays and alpha particles as well as neutrons and charged particles. Scintillation crystals based on cesium iodide (CsI) are matters with relatively low hygroscopicity, high atomic number, easy handling and low cost, characteristics that favor their use as radiation detectors. In this work, pure CsI crystal and bromine doped CsI crystals were grown using the Bridgman technique. The concentration of the bromine doping element (Br) was studied in the range of 1.5 × 10-1 M to 10-2 M. The distribution of the doping element in the crystalline volume was determined by neutron activation. The result obtained with neutron activation analysis (NAA) has found that the mean values of Br found in grown crystals are consistent with those introduced in salt CsI, showing the incorporation of Br in the matrix structure of CsI. The optical transmittance assays were performed at a wavelength range of 110 nm to 1100 nm. Analyses were carried out to evaluate the developed scintillators, concerning alpha particles and gamma radiation.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different water deficiency and rehydration levels on the concentrations of osmoregulators in two plant species（Hymenaea courbaril and H. Stigonocarpa） in the Amazon. We adopted a 2×5×5 factorial system,referring to 2 species（H. courbaril and H. stigonocarpa）and 5 stages of hydration and rehydration. The five hydration and rehydration stages were established in:（1）Control treatment E0;（2） Plants with 13 days of stress after incubation—E13;（3） Plants with 26 days of stress E26;（4）The plants that were established after 26 days after incubation and rehydrated for two days（RD2）;（5） rehydrated for two days（RD4）. The plants that were established after 26 days after incubation and rehydrated for four days. The experiment totaled fifty young plants with five replicates.Biochemical measurements were performed at the beginning of the experiment（E0） at 13（E13） and 26（E26） days after the water stress, in which the plants were rehydrated,repeating the analyses after two（RD2） and four（RD4）days. Both species increased the sucrose concentration by18%, with a decrease of 52% in starch content. The RD4 time presented the highest mean starch concentration(0.19 mmol g-1 of the residue for H. courbaril and0.27 mmol g;of residue for H. stigonocarpa). Increased proline concentrations were recorded for controls until RD2 for both species. For glycine betaine, the highest increases in treatments E26 and RD2 were observed for the H. courbaril species. Our rehydration period was not sufficient for total recovery of pre-stress concentrations of all studied solutes.

[目的]通过对昆明医科大学附属延安医院细菌性肺炎合并肺栓塞患者与单纯细菌性肺炎患者的临床和实验室检查进行分析。探讨两组患者的一般资料、基本疾病、临床症状及实验室指标等差异,研究细菌性肺炎合并肺栓塞的临床特点及危险因素。为临床诊治提供依据。[方法]从2017年1月至2019年7月在昆明医科大学附属延安医院住院的细菌性肺炎患者359例。根据CTPA的检查结果,将所有患者分为细菌性肺炎合并肺栓塞组(观察组)155例和单纯性细菌性肺炎组(对照组)204例。比较两组患者的性别、年龄、基础疾病、临床症状和实验室检查指标等特点。[结果]1.观察组155例,男性95例,女性60例,平均年龄(64.81±10.892)岁。对照组有204例,男性114例,女性90例,平均年龄(58.39±8.153).根据方差分析,观察组的平均年龄高于对照组。两组年龄差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。2.观察组高血压、冠心病、慢性阻塞性肺疾病、肿瘤、糖尿病等基础疾病及长期卧床患者数明显高于对照组,差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。观察组患者更易出现咯血、胸痛、呼吸困难甚至晕厥,具有统计学意义(P0.05)。观察组患者D-二聚体水平明显高于无肺栓塞患者,差异有统计学意义(P0.05)。7.观察组平均病程(21.12天)高于对照组(14.21天)。8.危险因素的多因素logistic分析:细菌性肺炎合并肺栓塞的独立危险因素为年龄>60岁,住院时间>14天,胸痛,呼吸困难,慢性阻塞性肺疾病,癌症,高血压,冠心病疾病。[结论]1.通过临床回顾性研究表明细菌性肺炎合并肺栓塞患者较单纯性肺炎患者年龄更大,伴随高血压、冠心病、慢阻肺、肿瘤、糖尿病等基础病更多。2.观察组患者更易出现咯血、胸痛、呼吸困难甚至晕厥。3.观察组患者D-二聚体水平明显高于无肺栓塞患者。4.观察组患者痰培养细菌检出率明显高于对照组。5.观察组患者比对照组患者更易发生呼吸衰竭(I型呼吸衰竭)。6.观察组平均病程高于对照组。7.危险因素的多因素逻辑分析:细菌性肺炎和PE的独立危险因素是年龄>60岁,LOS>14天,胸痛,呼吸困难,COPD,癌症,高血压,冠心病。

Phosphomonoester Phosphoethanolamine Induces Apoptosis in Human Chronic Myeloid Leukemia Cells

Background:Leukemia is a type of cancer that starts in the blood or blood-forming tissues.It results from the clonal proliferation of hematopoietic cells in the bone marrow and/or lymphoid tissues,which subsequently reach the peripheral circulation and can infiltrate other systems.There are many different kinds of leukemia,and treatments are different for each one.Chronic leukemia is with a slower growing than acute leukemia but could be just as life-threatening.Phospholipids are antitumor analogs,such as synthetic phosphoethanolamine,which is a phosphorylated compound capable of controlling cellular proliferation and inducing apoptosis in several types of tumor cells.Methods:K562 and K562-Lucena(MDR+)human chronic myeloid leukemia cells were treated with synthetic phosphoethanolamine(Pho-s).The viability was evaluated by sulforhodamine B(SRB)assay and cell cycle phases,apoptosis,markers expression,and mitochondrial potential were assessed by flow cytometry.Results:Tumor cells formed clusters in suspension and decreased significantly viability.The concentrations for IC50%were obtained.Pho-s treated were 43.1 mM(K562)and 145.9 mM(K562-Lucena MDR+)in a period of 24 hours.Pho-s induced changes in the distribution of cell population phases of cell cycle which showed an increase in fragmented DNA and increased markers expression envolved apoptosis pathways a decrease in the G1/G0 phase.Discussion:Treatment of K562 and K562-Lucena(MDR+)chronic myeloid leukemia cells with Pho-s showed dose and time dependent cytotoxic effects.This cytotoxicity induced a decrease in proliferative capacity,mitochondrial electrical potential,and consequently release of cytochrome C;inhibition of Bcl-2 family protein expression,increase in pro-apoptotic family members Bad and Bax,dependent on p53 expression.Conclusion:This study presented a significant therapeutic potential of Phos-s in this type of leukemia through the apoptotic effects on tumor cells independently of the molecular resistance profile(MDR+).

Characteristics of the CsI:Tl Scintillator Crystal for X-Ray Imaging Applications

Scintillators are high-density luminescent materials that convert X-rays to visible light. Thallium doped cesium iodide (CsI:Tl) scintillation materials are widely used as converters for X-rays into visible light, with very high conversion efficiency of 64.000 optical photons/MeV. CsI:Tl crystals are commercially available, but, the possibility of developing these crystals into different geometric shapes, meeting the need for coupling the photosensor and reducing cost, makes this material very attractive for scientific research. The objective of this work was to study the feasibility of using radiation sensors, scintillators type, developed for use in imaging systems for X-rays. In this paper, the CsI:Tl scintillator crystal with nominal concentration of the 10-3 M was grown by the vertical Bridgman technique. The imaging performance of CsI:Tl scintillator was studied as a function of the design type and thickness, since it interferes with the light scattering and, hence, the detection efficiency plus final image resolution. The result of the diffraction X-ray analysis in the grown crystals was consistent with the pattern of a face-centered cubic (fcc) crystal structure. Slices 25 × 2 × 3 mm3 (length, thickness, height) of the crystal and mini crystals of 1 × 2 × 3 mm3 (length, thickness, height) were used for comparison in the imaging systems for X-rays. With these crystals scintillators, images of undesirable elements, such as metals in food packaging, were obtained. One-dimensional array of photodiodes and the photosensor CCD (Coupled Charge Device) component were used. In order to determine the ideal thickness of the slices of the scintillator crystal CsI:Tl, Monte Carlo method was used.
